Kalboishakhi (Kafi bhai) is busy for a few days with his cyber cafe..that's why we are missing him...:(

Anyway i've sent your messages to him.
He will be back in a hour inshallah.
Shafi

One more thing which I didn't want to mention at first is he seems to me a bit disappointed with someone's comment about his english . I tried to convince him but I think I failed :(

But he gives me word that he will be back.

Thanks

Hey, why get disappointed with English? As long as he can speak good Bangla, he should never be disappointed or offended.

English is his second language, not first. So he should never feel bad about how his English is.

Please tell him that.

Shafi
October 6, 2003, 11:20 AM
I've told him that.
I mailed this whole page to him and I am sure that seeing all of your concern and love he can't left himself behind..Because the bigger fact is He also love banglacricket like all of us.

Our school cricket team in term 1 had 30 players in its squad. Which meant that It was almost impossible for me to play. However in term 3 (we had 3 terms in Tasmania [i lived there for 2 and a half yrs before coming to quensland]) we suddenly lost 20! we were a player short! So one summer morning on a Saturday I played my first cricket match. The match had 30 overs per side. There were 12 a side but only 11 batted (you guessed it... we were 2 short). Because of the sudden decline there were three debutens.

This is how my 1st over went...

1- defended
2- almost a six just short... feilder restrictes it to 3.
3- 2 runs
4- 1 run
5- Caught OUT
6 defended

One of the guys on debute was freaked out about having to face the bowling. So he put on a batting pad on his cheast and about 5 thigh pads... after all that he got out 1st ball duck!!!

Another incident was that there was also an Indian in our team. The opposition thought both of us were Pakistanis!!!

That happened to me too.... got mistaken for a paki and then as an Indy, the first time i went to play for my Uni in the northern german cricket league... they were surprised to see a opening bowler from BD when there were tall Indians in the team... That was harsh... stings a lot too... :( Incidentally the tallest indian in our team was an off-spinner... the kumble kind... he was more of a medium pacer with a spinner's run-up who cud make the ball come in quick and make the ball bounce... rarely get to see tall spinners these days :( :P

When you bat out 60 balls you have to retire in my retarded modified version! And from those 60 balls I only got *cough cough* 11. But with others getting out and retiring I got a chance to go back in at the death and wack it around a bit. C'mon gimme a break it was the first game of the season

I must say... ur is weird... but mine was as well!!! A batsman had to retire after 30 runs or 30 minutes. After everyone is out or retires you can come back in and score 50. the matches are 30 a side. In fact in one insident we needed hitters at the end to get us a win... one of our tail-enders nicked the ball to the keeper. He walked... but the feilders told him he wasn't out coz they didn't appeal!!! They did this so that the hitters didn't come out. They thought the next batsman would be the retiries... but they were wrong. Because of this we ended up losing by 9 runs :(

James90
January 21, 2004, 08:28 AM

I gotta say...having to retire at 60 balls is much better than retiring on 20

How's the actual game format? Mine goes

One team bowls for 55 overs one Saturday (unless bowls opposition out)

That team then bats for 55 overs the next week (most runs from their 55 overs wins)

Drain You
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One baby to another says -
I'm lucky to have met you
I don't care what you think
Unless it is about me
It is now my duty to completely drain you
A travel through a tube
And end up in your infection

Chew your meat for you
Pass it back and forth
In a passionate kiss
From my mouth to yours
I like you

With eyes so dialated,
I've become your pupil
You've taught me everything
Without a poison apple
The water is so yellow, I'm a healthy student
Indebted and so grateful -
Vacuum out the fluids

Chew your meat for you
Pass it back and forth
In a passionate kiss
From my mouth to yours
I like you

Oh no, I know a dirty word

Hello, hello, hello!

I'm so happy 'cause today
I've found my friends ...
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, but that's okay, 'cause so are you ...
We've broken our mirrors
Sunday morning is everyday for all I care ...
And I'm not scared
Light my candles, in a daze
'Cause I've found god

Hey, hey hey (x6)

I'm so happy 'cause today
I shaved my head ...
And I'm not sad
And just maybe I'm to blame for all I've heard ...
But I'm not sure
I'm so excited, I can't wait to meet you there ...
But I don't care
I'm so horny, but that's okay ...
My will is good

Hey, hey hey (x6)

I like it - I'm not gonna crack
I miss you - I'm not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack
I love you - I'm not gonna crack

Polly wants a cracker
I think I should get off her first
I think she wants some water
To put out the blow torch

It isn't me
We have some seed
Let me clip
Your dirty wings
Let me take a ride
Don't cut yourself
I want some help
To please myself
I've got some rope
You have been told
I promise you
I have been true
Let me take a ride
Don't cut yourself
I want some help
To please myself

Polly wants a cracker
Maybe she would like some food
She asks me to untie her
A chase would be nice for a few

It isn't me
We have some seed
Let me clip
Your dirty wings
Let me take a ride
Don't cut yourself
I want some help
To please myself
I've got some rope
You have been told
I promise you

Let me take a ride

Polly says her back hurts
She's just as bored as me
She caught me off my guard
It amazes me, the will of instinct

It isn't me

Don't cut yourself

tourette's - The Eagle Has Landed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hey bootleggers!
So, this is a new song and we don't really feel like ..
actually going through the trouble of putting it out ourselves, so ...
- This song is called "The Eagle has Landed" !
Yeah, and its for all of you bootleggers to go ahead and go !

Try to find something fast, in my eyes
Oh no, that's ok, phone home
Everthing tastes the same, in my eyes
Every day, every taste, in my eyes

Hey! (x3)

Every time it's in his chin, in my eyes
Everything Tennesees, phone home
Bring it down, at the town, in my eyes
Bring it in, set it's in, in my eyes

Hey! (x3)

Try it's sound, something found, it ain't us
Round down, at the town, go home
Round down, something in, mean us
Every taste, something fake, gross

Hey! (x3)

Take ...
Mean heart ...
Mean hearts ...(x3)

Here is an alternate version of the lyrics to this song.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Down down such a fast, in my eyes
Won't ever let you down, flown home
Granted to your sense of sound, oh my eyes
You and me it contains, my heart

Hey! (x3)

Go dark sound check, my eyes
Everything teddy sees, is all wrong
Burnin' down half the town, and my house
Entertaining suicide, well my heart

Hey! (x3)

Jonestown such a frown, see yours
Riddle meal left the town, or go home
Rarin' round such a day, for me uh ..
Hitch a train to Santa Fe, or go horse

Hey! (x3)

Take ...
Mean horse ...
Mean horse ...(x3)

- Thank you for your patience!

If you wouldn't mind I would like to blew
If you wouldn't care I would like to blew
If you wouldn't mind I would like to leave
If you wouldn't care I would like to breathe

Is there another reason for your stain
Could you believe who we knew was stress or strain?

Was never much of a Nirvana fan and only really liked their song Lithium. But I remember the day after the announcement of his death. That whole week my entire high school was in a state of shock.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam et al changed the face of music in the early 90s, and only a stupid and ignorant fool could insult them like the poster above just did.

Nirvana, Pearl Jam et al changed the face of music in the early 90s.

They didn't "change the face of music." It's like saying McDonalds changed the way we think about food. It's just some fat laden meat in a bun, []!

They wrote very simplistic songs. It's the people who listened to their music made them famous. I personally don't find anything great in their music. It was a 90's fad. Simplstic, guitar-chord-driven music that lasts 2 or 3 minutes. Like fast food. It's the reflection of the times.

[Edited on 29-4-2004 by chinaman : Moderation.]

Chinaman: "stupid" is a PERFECTLY g-rated word, ok? You're making my post look as if I said something bad.

Let me eduacte you: "It's the X, STUPID!" is an expression. It means "How can you not see the obviousness of X?"

You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. But I suppose I should forgive you for your ignorance as you were probably still in nappies in the early 90s.

Simplistic songs or not, they TOTALLY changed the music industry’s ideologies about what would be popular music and what wouldn’t. A whole new generation of countless musicians such as Radiohead, Oasis, Blur etc were IMMENSELY influenced by them and their music. Nirvana brought ‘meaning’ into popular music. Anyways, as I said I’m not much of a Nirvana fan, but I don’t deny their importance, influence and the legacy they left to today’s music, thus proving Kurt Cobain certainly was a legend.

btw, gimme the simplistic guitar-chord-driven music over the uncreative, boring and formulaic wailings of Aguilera and Twain any day :)

Anyways, I don't have time for this nonsense, got a report due tmrw.

Arnab
April 29, 2004, 02:34 AM
Sure. I was never a big fan of "pop" music anyway. Who cares what new fads the public are lapping up every other decade?

Nirvana started the 90's fad. Great! A new brand of brainless music for brainless people. So?

It's like "HEY DUDE! Check this out! Wendy's just came out with a great new burger. It's SO, ummm, 90's! It's totally refreshing from those old-style Burger King whoppers. Those disgusting whoppers smack so much of 80s! You get more 'feeling', 'meaning' and 'soul' from these Wendy's burgers than those stupid, stale, formulaic whoppers"

Edited: [Strongly worded sentiment showing utter disdain and contempt for the hypothetical other party to the above conversation since, in the final analysis, they are all just vile, abominable and bland fast food. ]

"[see edited above]" I see some things never change. It is impossible to hold a civil discussion with someone with that kind of attitude. Look, if something becomes popular or commercial, it shouldn’t automatically be devalued. Personally, I think people who start a NEW, CREATIVE and MEANINGFUL trend/culture can hardly be classified as being brainless. Since your brain is so huge, please tell us what is a new and creative trend YOU started?

Anyhow, thanks for confirming my initial impression of you, now due to that ridiculous fast food analogy, I am 100% convinced that you are nothing but a loopy fruitcake.

If you think Nirvana's music, which consisted of strumming three guitar chords, 4/4 beats, verse-chorus-verse-chorus pattern and spouting banal and morbid lyrics about the shitty life of a self-deluded cocain addict, was CREATIVE and MEANINGFUL, hey, more power to you.

Nirvana was a prodigy in alternative rock scene.Infact it's safe to say they 'invented' alt rock which is distinctively different from underground rock. What Elvis is in 'rock' music or Led Zeppl;ine are in 'metal' music, Nirvana are in Alt rock music.

I find your analysis of their music partcularly amusing and ludicrous and shows your disability to 'look beyound the circle' which is Nirvana all about. With proper vision one can easily see their composition as musical interpretation of Jacques Derrida's post-modernist theory which eventually lead to post-modern movement in arts, architecture, literature, music etc.

I don't know you at all, but you've a very questionable understanding about Alt rock music. I'll take this opportunity to advise you not to comment on something you don't even remotely understand. It might be the case that Alt rock doesn't tickle your interest, then what's the point to comment on that?

Yes. I totally understand. Proper post-modernist visions are wonderful things indeed. Especially when induced by crack.

You know who the greatest post-modernist artist is?

William Hung!!!

Yes! I am a hundred percent sure. He has broken all the notions of pre-determined rules. His seemingly pathetic attempt at dancing and singing like Ricky martin is actually a well-rehearsed charade. Behind that carefully constructed persona, there is irony and mockery, my friend. He has broken all the pre established rules of becoming a tv-star. He didn't gain popularity BECAUSE of his talent, but DESPITE the lack of his talent. It's such a profound post-moderninst statement that I think I am gonna $h%t in my pants.

Dearest Arnab,

With all due respect to you, you come across to me as one of those people who hate something merely because it's popular. Tell me how many other songs can you remember specifically other than Smells Like Teen Spirit? That song is your '90s fad'. You know why? Because teenagers thought that it was about them and they related to it. Jeez Kurt, how could you let that happen?

If you think Nirvana's music, which consisted of strumming three guitar chords, 4/4 beats, verse-chorus-verse-chorus pattern and spouting banal and morbid lyrics about the shitty life of a self-deluded cocain addict, was CREATIVE and MEANINGFUL

That right there is b**** on numerous counts. They completely invented the style of starting out slow and belting it out in the chorus. You make it sound like Nirvana were only capable of producing primitive, unoriginal music. All they were was simple and Kurt even admitted that he wasn't one of the best guitarists. Everybody seems to think that good, pure, rock is based on the number of minutes the guitar riffs go for and how complex they are. If you listen to Led Zeppelin or the Rolling Stones, their lyrics aren't that astonishing. Kurt pretty much had that down, but people dismiss him just because his guitar playing isn't revolutionary. And even professional music journalists couldn't correctly evaluate the lyrics of his songs, most of which were written before he even started using HEROIN on a regular basis, so I wouldn't expect you to understand them either. Oh but that's right,as my sister pointed out,you do have quite a [edit].

Anyway, everyone except Arnab read his biography, Heavier than Heaven by Charles R. Cross.

Umm..how about a big NUH UH!

Metallica did it back in 1983 in the album "Ride the Lightning." Listen to "Fade to Black." And I am hundred percent sure some heavy metal band before them did it as well.

Ignorant teenie.

Oh yeah, he took heroin instead of cocain. As if that makes him better. OOOH He was sniffing the finer s****.

Actually, no. I headbang to Smells like Teen Spirit and Lithium all the time. But here's the thing: I don't call these songs "creative" and "meaningful." I call them what they are: trashy 90's fad songs to headbang to when you feel like it.

I listen to popular music all the time. Just like I eat fast food all the time when I have no other choice.

Scarred

Curled like an embryo
Take another face
You will be kissed again
I was cold as I mouthed the words
And crawled across the mirror

I wait
Await the next breath
Your name
Like ice into my heart

A shallow grave
A monument to the ruined age
Ice in my eyes
And eyes like ice don't move
Screaming at the moon
Another past time

Your name
Like ice into my heart

Everything as cold as life
Can no-one save you?
Everything
As cold as silence
And you will never say a word

Your name
Like ice into my heart

What is this "quite" single as opposed to "not-so-quite" single? :)

It's pretty well-known that most if not all progressive achievements of human history have been performed by single/unattached human males, not women nor the listless husbands who are mainly sexless androids. :)

Actually there have been a lot of "celibate-for-life" famous intellectual men in history.

There also have been a lot of intellectual seducers as well.

There are all kinds of people in the world. But there's an interesting quote that holds true for all of them, and interestingly it's by the wife of a man whose single-man-like work ethic is legendary:

"Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people". - Eleanor Roosevelt.

Franklin D Roosevelt was probably the most exuberant person in America at his time. What he accomplished with his relentless enthusiasm can seem outlandish now.

Franklin bechara was forced to be celibate on account of his wife being a lesbian. I suspect Eleanor said that because people were gossiping about her.

Also, I reject the implicit condition that greatness is about discussing ideas. That's a very non-humanist way of looking at things. I would argue that someone who truly gets humanity, can discuss people with insight, and is able to use his/her empathy to make notable accomplishments happen is just as great a mind. E.g. Gandhi was known for his ability to remember little details about people, for his ability in "aaapon kore neya". It is this attribute of his that enabled him to get others to join his ahimsa andolong and we all know the result. If I remember, aside from non-violence, Gandhi was never wed to any specific political ideology. In fact the British often complained that he changed positions so quickly.

Arnab
