Hello everyone, my first thread here.
India has a tradition of playing spin bowling well, we saw it in the ODI series and now in this test match all of the 3 wickets have been taken by pacers. Even in the world cup the real damage was done by Mortaza who took 4 wickets, so why don't we play with 3 pacers against the Indians? I say we drop Rafique and bring Rasel into the team.

I dont think dropping Rafique is a great idea!!!!Rafique still offers us alot and he is old now but he still has the pation to play cricket and show his talent which he is already showing so dropping Rafique isn't a great idea!!!!!

We should play 3 pacers. We can still use 3 SLAs if we would like by repalcing JO or Rajin with Mehrab Jr. Mehrab can bat as good as either of them. And one of Rafique and Enam Jr. can be replaced by a pacer. I don't think Rasel is a good choice for Test. I would prefer Dollar Mahmud or Md. Sharif. Sharif is good with the old ball, and can bat a little too.

i see your point about the extra seamer. variety always gives you more options when nothing seems to be working too well... i'm not too sure about dropping rafique though. the longer version of the game is really what it claims to be- a test of temperament, stamina and the ability to rebound and rise quickly after minor defeats, more than anything else. i think rasel/nazmul/dollar/shafaq/talha etc. need to be eased into the team after playing a predetermined number of 4-day matches in the national, u-23 and bd-a before being debut-ed against the likes of zimbabwe before playing a test match. that'll create better chances for them to succeed and save themselves from our wrath.

instead of rafique i'd get rid of HaBa, omar, and as much as i like him, rajin in order to bring in more talented options who can deliver well in a couple of years. in order to build that winning team of the future, that needs to stay together and develop now, i'd bring-in alok, nafis iqbal and possibly rasel with dollar and nadif chaudhury waiting in the wings... tamim, aftab and junaid, contrary to popular wisdom, can also develop into good test batsman if they play more 4-day mtches. i'd bring razzak in when rafique retires. razz can learn to become a better batsman than he is at the moment, and play lots of domestic and bd-a longer versions of the game. :)

We need more pacers in the team. Its ridiculous playing with 3 spinners. Most teams have one specialist spinner and rest pacers. Our team is the other way round. Selectors should look to change this kind of line up.

Changing rafique with rasel would mean we are changing a spinner with some variety and great success with another spinner who has not achieved much succes in this format of cricket. I dont see how that will make it any better. Untill we get a proper third seamer we should just continue with this line up. The most amazing thing is rasel is a very tall guy and even with his height he does not have much bounce which shows that he has a poor action and lack of strenght probably explains his speed which is as fast as rafique.

i think we shud have taken Rasel in place of Rajin. 2 pacers is not enough in this kind of pitch and also against this batting line up..

lol..he still gives the batsmen a hard time though. He did terrific in WC.

we dont have a third pacer, rasel is not quick enough to be described as a medium pacer. Rasel is still good for the ODI's but in tests you need to get the batsmen rather than wait for them to get themselves out.

yeah he is fine in odi's only in pitches that offer sth to the fast bowlers. otherwise he needs to either remodel his action to extract more bounce or add some more pace to be even considered for test matches.

When the conditions suit, you play more fast bowlers.

When they dont, you dont.

Heck, Andrew 'Funky' Miller once opened the bowling for Australia ...

I think sayed rasel should just stop eating dhall and buff himself up , seriously we need more pace from, he has great talent, but not the power to deliver it to it fullest potential. Then our test side would be much stronger.

Dr_Naf,

Nope. Syed Rasel is accurate and can swing the ball both ways. I dont want to risk turning a very good medium pacer who will be an immense asset anywhere the conditions support swing into a barely acceptable fastish medium.

Now, conditions in Bangladesh do not seem to support swing bowling ... but I drool about the idea of the kid in England or New Zealand - and anyone who can keep the ball in the right areas will be of use in Test Cricket.
