View Full Version : Retiring from Banglacricket

chinaman
May 21, 2007, 04:25 AM
After some soul searching, I decided to retire from Banglacricket. The decision was neither easy nor without pain. However I believe the time and decision are just perfect for me. I'll however stay as a member and will visit and post from time to time.

I already requested the owners and admins of Banglacricket to de-admin, de-mod and de-staff me at their earliest convenience.

I like to take this opportunity to thank all the members for years of unconditional guidance, help and support. I'd also like to express my gratitude by naming, apart from the mods and admins, a few of those who actually made me the 'chinaman':

Rafiq, fwullah, Fazal, Billah, Pundit, Sauron, Orpheus, PoorFan, sports_fan_bd, SS, AsifTheManRahman, ZunaidH, Rubu, Piranha, al-Furqan, Miraz, Kabir, Hatebreed, Navarene, Sorry, crickwizard, SMHasan, Babubangla, Spitfire_x86, Sam, Cricket46, shaad, shovon13, Shafin, Tigers_eye, Mon, mona, Shehwar, allrounder, rassel, ialbd, bangladeshlive, Beamer, Tokai, Dhakablues, cricket_pagol, cricman, DJ Sahastra, betaar, sar2005, BushidoTiger, cluster11, DOORBIN, Mridul, paco, Zephaniah, James90, omio, Special 1, Sydney, TheWatcher, dorbesh, sunniath, gatekeeper, IanW, DotBall, fab, Faisal, Flipper, nihi, Fortuner, samircreep, gravitY, guy_zin, Hasib, Kana-Baba, howzatt!, imran78, LateCut , sovik, little_master, Imtiaz, Imtiaz82, israr, istiak, jabbar, kaisermatin, Shafi, Kalbaisakhi, layperson, nasifkhan, kalpurush, kkakash, Locutus, Optimist, Mahir, shaheen, shahid, Mav, mhferdaus, Mr-khan, rudro, Mueid, Sumon77, pagol-chagol, muradnyc, shujan, mwrkhan, mzia, Shubho, niloy, Nafis_BD, pilot fan, Nocturnal, sunny747, nsd3, rana, reyme, rio, roi, syedmahm, roaring tigerz, samiur666, rockpundit, Rubayed, sabbir ahmad, Zakirc, sadhat, TAIF, yaseer, Xavier, thebest, sadi, Warlock, tutul, safaat, zahid, say, sensible, ZaKi, Zia and many many more some of whom don't post as frequently as they once used to. I feel like I know all of you personally for ages.

Over the years as a mod, I might have caused you pain. Please do accept my sincere appologies, I never meant any harm to anyone, it was just a part of sincere duties vested upon me. I always tried my best to make banglacricket a better and richer place for all of us to hang out and have fun. It has been quite a ride for me personally.

There were ups and there were downs. But you guys were there for me, always. When I needed your help, a small PM was more than enough - how could I ever forget that? I wish you all and banglacricket the very best. Thank you very very much.

By now I think you have earned the right to know the man behind the nick. Well, here is your chinaman, you can now fancy your chances to take on him for all those warnings and editings :)

On this sad day, you just made it more deep for all of us. If anyone had to retire from Banglacricket … it should be Sir Bashar and his buddies ( Golla, Pilot ), not you CM!

Or I wish you take the job of greater responsibility for our country … something like building our country. :fanflag:

Hope your decision take you to farther success in life. Lot of thanks for your long service to Banglacricket and endless effort to keep it clean and enjoyable.

Very Sad. But some one has to pick up where you left. Alarmingly, more and more regulars are falling off because of a general change in members attitude, presentation, perhaps accentuated by a mix of new ones.

I hope we will miss you only from the Admin position, your continuous contribution for BanglaCricket will be unaffected.

It was very nice working with you, I always felt like someone is there to share thoughts, and to ask for support (if required).

I will always remember your efforts for my articles, columns and the gracious introductions after publishing. And definitely your never ending inspirations (I hope it will continue). :)

You were there like an elder brother, hopefully the relationship will remain same even after your retirement from Admin position.

You have given tremendous effort to make BC better, I know you have taken your decision after quite a bit of thinking.

Have a nice time as a member of this wonderful site.

Surprised, shocked and saddend.

Chinaman Bhai, it was a pleasure to be guided under your supervision in BanglaCricket over the past two years.
Your presence as a mod was ever felt and would always be missed.
Your help when needed is also highly appreciated.
Hope u keep on posting from time to time.

Surely parting from BC was a long thought process for you and respectfully, i would like to wish you all the best and good luck.

Now..a new problem..who's gonna punish these unruly newbies ?

This thread caught my eye and now i am saddened. Never could imagine what BC would be like without Chinaman. I hope you enjoy your time off from Banglacricket and thanks for all the hard work you've put in being the Head Moderator. I truly wish that you reconsider and pull off a Habibul Bashar and un-retire.

I said it once and i'll say it Again Thank you Chinaman Bhai.

Not the new version:
Kabhi al vida naa kah'na, chaltey chaltey...

All the great great ones retired or thought about retiring three times before they actually did. Ali, MJ, Magic. Reconsider it for one last time?

Or is it the CRICKET GURU calling???

Wish you all the best.

BC will be losing a good man. While I can imagine that this decision was not easy for you to make, I am pretty sure that it is a load off of your mind.

I already requested the owners and admins of Banglacricket to de-admin, de-mod and de-staff me at their earliest convenience.

Cool! Looking forward to butting heads with a de-mod'ified chinaman :D Get ready dude.

Retirement from BC Forum!!
Are you becoming the next Coach of BD Team? :)

Thank You for your time in the forum.
As a tribute to Chinaman's contribution to BC forum, we should rename the Chief Moderator position to "The Chinaman Moderator".

Chinaman bhai: As a colleague, and as a fellow member...it was simply great working with you. Your contribution to BanglaCricket can't be matched by any of us. And you have made those great impacts on BanglaCricket by making it an enjoyable environment for all of us. Hope BanglaCricket remains the way you're leaving it.

Good to see your picture...now I know that wasn't you in the video :(
Just joking :)

Anyway. Do visit BanglaCricket from time to time. It's an order...from your brothers and sisters :)
By now we have that right, don't we? :)

Whatever you do after this, and however you do it...just be safe, and take care of yourself. If there's any way we, the members, individually or collectively, can do anything for you, I'm sure you wouldn't hesitate to ask, right? :)

I won't say goodbye. I expect you to be here. Will just say, Happy Retirement.

As a tribute to Chinaman's contribution to BC forum, we should remane the Chief Moderator position to "The Chinaman Moderator".

I second this idea.

Another bad day for me persoanlly. Sorry to hear that you are leaving as MOD, chinaman. I still hope you will participate as a member though. Even though I don't know you persoanlly and not always agreed with you in all the issues, but I admired you as a MOD and appreciated the hard job you have done so far. You made me realize what a hard and under-appreciated job it is.

And thanks for publishing your picture. For some reason all those years I thought you would be looking different... may be something like...

Thank you Chinaman bhai for all the hard work you have put in behind BC. Personally I also need to thank you for the way handled my ban earlier. :) Although I must say I did not see eye to eye on a lot of topics with you. But it is all good. Now since Orpheus has said that he used to look for your pre admin era posts because they were that entertaining I am really looking forward to you contributing as a member here now. :) Happy retirement.

To all those who are mentioning that you couldn't agree with Chinaman in many cases, isn't it really based on our personality? I mean, not necessarily we have to have the same view with everyone. As long as we appreciate and admire the person, that's good enough. We can certainly have different opinions about even the simplest things in life.

One thing I do agree with Fazal mamu...Chinaman has done the job which is the least appreciated by many. But you can only see the outcome when you see where BanglaCricket is at the moment. You know, it's never too late to realize this and thank him for his unconditional efforts into making BanglaCricket the ultimate forum to be in.

Once again, chinaman, thanks for the service you've given to BanglaCricket. You will be remembered...and trust me, it'll be with a lot of respect :)

Since you said "all those" that included me as well which is why I thought it warranted a response from me. I do not think there was any negative connotation to mentioning the fact that there was difference of opinion with CM on certain topics, if that is what your post is implying. The fact that there were difference of opinions and yet people wished him well and thanked him for this services shows the respect he has among the members (including me). I cannot speak for everyone but as far as I am concerned this is what I feel and I am sure the rest too have enough respect for CM bhai.

So, you wake up at 5:23 AM your time and post this.

Sorry, but I have to think about this.

Possible reason:

Bored. - Nope. Out of question. Change in life and lifestyle - Less time for BC - possible, but not likely for a dedicated cricket fan.

I think it's the following two reasons:

1. The countless sleepless nights you've spent in walking alongside the baby that was Bangladesh cricket - that baby is walking, talking now. There is less of a concern for direct involvement to give the fans a voice. Much of it is on auto pilot now. Cricket in Bangladesh is progressing. The 2-tier idea is dead. You feel relatively safe in leaving the shouting to the amateurs.

2. The passing of the baton. BC is a Miraz site now. Threads, colums, news, interviews, "bulletins", "research", Polls (or so they are called), opinions (however they are manufactured) - pretty much the whole site is a one-man content show at the moment. Enough to keep the amateurs busy. You must have used this Argument with Tehsin to step down. (Come to think of it, Miraz could even be a Sylheti himself :))

I've said this before, I will say it again now:

You, single-handedly guarded this place. It is my observation and belief. You set a tone and kept this place civil. I think others will agree, regardless of it's cricket origin, this is just about the most awesome place for Bangladeshis to gather. BC is absolutely unique in it's manifestation as the only "web Civic society" for Bangladeshis. A great example of directing a positive mindframe towards wonderful, enlightning conversations. BC, under your guidence, has set the standard so high that nothing else compare. Side-by-side to the psuodo-political forums of drishtipat or others, here we saw a true picture of the great Bangladeshi mindframe emerged in the diffrent BC forums.

I will just give you one argument, in coaxing you to stay as the CM. Take a survey of the wives and children of many of the members that you mentioned in your post. Ask them what we do for entertainment and relaxation on the web. I guarantee you they all have one common answer:

banglacricket

NOT cricket. banglacricket.

I expressly than YOU for making it happen.

Don't go away.

Hi everyone,
I think most of the bangla cricket fans here don't know me now a days. It's ok, because I am not a regular now. But there was time when I can't think of sitting in front of the computer without having this page open. Luckily I had a problem today and needed help from one of my BanglaCricket friend, so I came back here and stunned to see that our beloved chinaman bhai is retiring.
I don't know this guy personally. He in fact joined after me in this forum. So I saw how he contributed to this forum. I still remember when Bangladesh was playing against zimabwe or namibia and nobody was broadcasting the news. Even cricinfo didn't cover the matches. But this guy, smsed a journalist of that country to know the score and keep us, banglacricket fans, updating every moment.
I should say, It's Chinaman bhai that made Banglacricket, "Banglacricket". I'm not denying other's contribution, but you surely can't ignore his.

Hat's off to you my friend. Have peace in whatever you are doing.

Chinaman, all the best wishes.
We will miss you as a moderator for sure.
You have been an exception in the moderation; quite strict, still evryone here do like you very very much. That's not an easy task! And you did it perfectly.

Dear all

Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for all these well wish and kind words. It is simply supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

It has been a tremendous honor to serve you and I'll cherish every bit of it for years to come.

I'm indebt to the generosity of Tehsin and Mahmood to give me the opportunity to serve banglacricket. No single word will ever come even close to repay this. I'll settle for a big "Thanks a million" for now.

Banglacricket is very lucky to have diehard and capable staff who spend hours after hours of thankless times for the love of it. You guys are the best bunch I can think of. Thank you and three cheers for you guys.

Our admins and mods are the most isolated groups. Their dedication, expertise and hardworks are truly phenomenal. It is a tremendously demanding job and even more taxing to continue to operate at such a higher level of endurance with efficiency. It has been quite a distinction for me to work hand to hand with the moderators and administrators. My heartfull gratitude and salute to you guys.

And the members, you are the life line of banglacricket. This site will be nothing without you. Without your voice, our team would face the peril of remaining as minnows forever. Your voice do get heard by the team, your inspiration do get translated to runs and wickets. Let us keep loving the team and they will keep on winning.

Thank you very much.

come onnnn.... we need the dirt and we need the soap

My guess is this must have been a fallout with Tehsin. As Tehsin is rabidly anti-indian he must have been in favor of putting India down by allowing childish banters -- whereas Chinaman is in favor of keeping BC civil. So I can envision a friction there.

As long as you don't tell us what really happened ---- rumor-mongers like me will not be able to stop their mill. So please tell us what really happened.

C'man - the most poignant thing about all this is your signature. Somehow, it conjures up images of an epitaph in my hand. You have to help erase that - by jousting with other members with abandon.

Chinaman, it won't really make a difference if you retire, until you keep on posting regularly on BC, and in that way, we will never miss you.

Just look at CM's post -- it doesn't mention Tehsin at all and Tehsin is yet to say something in this thread -- all this points to some kind of internal conflict in BC. Why would a volunteer, who displays so much pride and ownership - would suddenly drop off like this? (especially a gentleman like him) Why isn't Tehsin showing any remorse or any signs of anxiety yet if he is not involved in this situation.

The rumor world would be better off if you can oil your own chorka if you don't like the muckraking .

Although it's none of my concern, it's none of your concern either...whether BC's going through an internal conflict or not.

For once, just try to think straight, and take things as they've been put in front of you. If you need things to use your mind on, find something else. If you can't find anything else, give your brain some break...and let it hybernate until something good comes up.

And no, the world would be better off if YOU can oil your own chorka, and stop pointing fingers at anyone unnecessarily.

I don’t want to get involved in superior complexity war, but it is alarming that people with dignity and fairness are disappearing and the opportunity takers with good vocabulary and team building skills are ruling; may be this is a cultural thing, but I expect a better rational judgement from high calibre educated people. May be this post is premature.

are ki shanghatik kotha! i came here to express my sincere condolences for habibul and his merry band of cricketers, but it turns out i need to write on the farewell wall of the original chinaman (there have been some copycats along the way if i remember correctly).

chinaman, i fully support your decision for whatever it's worth. moderation foderation korar moto energy koto din sustain kora ja? now you are free to roam the board and truly have your say! anyway, you leave BC in very good hands and your early dedication has laid the foundation for the many cricket gurus who run banglaricket now - as members we are all indebted to you.

JamesBond, chinaman is not a simple people here like the way your are trying to portray.

He dedicated hours after hours to run BC in a better way. Admins and Mods are doing a lot of work behind the scene to make this site a better one.

One someone like chinaman retires, it's a big deal and we should show proper respect to his decision.

Did you guys check the game thread last night after we lost those early wickets...people talking about ripping flags, using foul language, evn some inappropiate discussion for a G rated forum..I wonder if this has anything to do with CM's decision! BC better get someone to do the "Dourani deoa" job quickly! :D

What is to do with a person being a sylheti here? Would you explain?

On a different note... is Chinaman still in BC Management? The About Us page doesnt have him there. Honestly I'm still finding it a weird feeling to think chinaman is now just another BC member. :-|
