Otherwise, good cheating...you should just put a slight reference at the end of the first post :)

The question is, will India win it in three days or on the fourth day....

Surfer : lol .. What if we put up an Australia? like last year..?
Aussies needed a straight 5 days to beat us.. If India was playing in place of Aussies that time.. India..would have faced an innings defeat...or needed 7-8 days to defeat us.

Goodluck to both of the teams..looking for a good match..and a bangladesh win, inshallah.

This will either be a draw, or BD will come on top. Mark my words ;)

Having said that, I'm just not as enthusiastic as I was in the beginning of the series. It's not a question about the tigers' abilities, or form....but the mentality and gameplan that is forced onto them by BCB and gang.

He is a secret weapon. We used him effectively in the first test. He was a part of the match but he didnt play- coz he was supposed to be secret.;)

The Bangladeshi batsmen got so scared thinking that he might come to bowl that they played for the draw....that was the game plan with the secret weapon....:D

LOL. You really need to think of better reasons to bash Bangladesh.

BD batsmen are only scared of unleashing their own potential, and we have only the loser mentality of our seniors to blame.

Ishant Sharma for VRV is the only change according to Rediff. No idea how good Sharma but it is will be extremely difficult for any bowler to be worse than VRV.

Such a beautiful ground.

The boundary rope was 20-30 metres inside the ground for ODIs. Hope they will the use more of the ground for the Tests.

Why Indian Flag hyperlinked with Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi? Isn't it odd? Could have similar Wikipedia link!

Nothing wrong with shamiyana... adds a local touch IMO. But why the blue and white colors? and not our traditional chokra-bokra orange-red-green etc.?

I don't mind the "shamiyana", but those bamboo sticks really look ugly. Otherwise the stadium is looking good already, especially the ground.

Kumble will be the difference as obvious so will be the superstar batsmen(Sachin,Dada, RD etc.) even Dhoni is getting is form back. This will be an acid test for us. We have to play really hard to make this game a draw.

Ok, guys..heres some predictions:

1.Who will win? Hmm..lemmee see: ubu dosh kuri nari bhuri chingri macher chochori... yes, got it..It will be just like the last AUS-BAN series. After failing to grip the wining initiative and gloating with all the 'positives', BD lost heavily in the 2nd test. With no rain in sight and the probability thatShakib be dropped..BD will (naaharbolte parchi na ..tears). Some one as inferior as Dizzy Gillespie will score a century..adding tothe throes

2. Positives from the series?: Wow..lots of them. We found thatMash can bat better (not slog..pure bat) than many others. Hablu can keep up with RRR (during the first 10 overs though), Pilot is still junk, ,,

3. Will Habla retire?: Yeah, right..

In any case..GO TIGERS!!

Uncapped Rajesh Powar and Ishant Sharma are include. I think Ishant Sharma will make his debut in Test arena.

A parmanent shade/overhead for the stands is in the plans for Mirpur stadium. Hopefully before 2011 WC openning ceremony those will be in place.

wish all the best to BD team.

For some reason I am having a good feeling before the game. May be, just may be if we field positively (settings and effort) we can win the series even if we bat second.

Ha ha...very well said..
we do indeed need to get out of the "shamiyana" and "bamboo" tradition...
guess bamboo is in the heart of our culture...

the stadium looks simply awsome...
but one little complain from me..
i always thought the Mecca of our Cricket should have had a capacity close to atleast 75,000 or more...

Dhaka is a mega city of over 10 million people and cricket is our number 1 game.
It can draw much much more crowd on a decent day of cricket.

On the match note..

I believe this will be our "first" true test victory.
That is against a more established nation.

Current Indian team might have few big names, but i think we can close the gap and play for the win.

GO the Tigers!!
Time to give Whatmore his best farewell gift!

Ishant Sharma for VRV is the only change according to Rediff. No idea how good Sharma but it is will be extremely difficult for any bowler to be worse than VRV.
hmmm! looking at the stats he bowled fairly well. better than Zaheer ofcourse. Especially Mash's wicket.

Zaheer 87/1 - 22 overs 1 maiden
VRV 70/3 - 20.2 overs 6 maidens

Well, the 2nd test includes Tusher Imran and Md. Sharif. But with the performance we had on the 1st test, I am just curious who they will replace? Obviously, Bashar is not going to be out. I can only see Saqibul making way for Tusher as both of them can ball as well but Saqib played a nervous knock in the middle. With Shahadat returning in form, Enamul still needed,,, I dont know who will make the way for the couple but I suspect they may leave the original team intact..

It would be a crime to leave Sakib - Shahadat out. Shahadat was in form all this time. In ODIs you can't get wickets and would leak runs if you bowl short balls. That is his game with occational yorker.

Why is there speculations about dropping Sakib? He is the best batsman we have right now. Not every one scores a century in thei debut match in test. But they can go on to be a great batsman in the end.

Depending on the pitch, Sharif can replace Enamul Jnr. But at this time, I don't see any place for Tushar.

SS

True depending on pitch Sharif should be used instead of Jr.
it's sad that Tushar can not be used to replace any of our 'batsmen'.

Unfortunately, Tushar always fails at the national arena, but performs great for A team. Every time he is out of the national team, everyone starts a huge argument about including him in the national team. But then he goes out in the middle and fails. I suspect, he just cannot take the pressure.

i dont argue...just consider the situation of sakib now...if selectors drop sakib in 2nd test..everbody will tell that sakib should get chance in another 4/5 test although he failed to show characteristics of test nature...BUT if tushar has been given a chance only for one match and fails..everbody will say that he must be dropped but few people will say that he should be given more chance to prove himself not only one match...I see here is the difference...

sakib is a reliable 1st down/ 2nd down batsman. on the other hand, nafees is an unrelaeble opener. There is only two places for opener, but a batsman like sakib has 6 places to bat for. he is a very good bowler as well, don't forget that. :callme:

He is a secret weapon. We used him effectively in the first test. He was a part of the match but he didnt play- coz he was supposed to be secret.;)

The Bangladeshi batsmen got so scared thinking that he might come to bowl that they played for the draw....that was the game plan with the secret weapon....:D

Apologies for spreading rumors.. I wasnt suggesting that we drop Saqib but just wondering who would can Tusher possbily replace.. Tusher is playing really good these days but not getting that "game" where he can show his true talents. He was a choker before but that is a first for someone of his talent not to be selected. Without being too biased, he is equivalent to Rajin/Sakib, better than Javed, nears Bashar and below Ashraful ( well everyone is below Ashraful anyways,,). But I agree, I dont see a point in changing the squad unless Mashrafee/Shahadat is injured. We cant afford a major injury of these players as we have Srilanka tour coming up..

The Tigers think-tank are looking forward to field three seamers and drop left-arm spinner Enamul Haque in favour of left-arm paceman Syed Rasel. Bangladesh added an additional seamer in the squad when they dragged in Mohammad Sharif as cover for fast bowler Shahadat Hossain, who has been suffering from cold.

I think , there will be no change at least in the batting line up , in my post in some other thread , I had explained why . tushar deserves a place now but there is no place left to tell the truth . tushar's real bad luck was his fever on the eve of the 1st test .

how ridiculous it is to think of dropping sakib . he had played pretty good before being unfortunately out . and for god's sake , he has played only one test innings . even if that had been a duck he asks a 2nd chance . I think some of you are somewhat influenced by soccer20reverse :D . however , I hope you didn't mean dropping sakib , you were just searching a place for tushar .

mirpur has a greyish , darkish look in its pitch ; informing its probable help for bounce . if there is some grass , we need a 3rd seamer . but , if it favors spin I would back jnr . however , if it rains too much , jnr would be less effective . because he is at his peak on 4th and 5th day . don't blame this guy for not being effective in chittagong . merely 3days had been played there and he had not got the 4th and 5th day pitch. however , at mirpur stadium drainage system is quite good , and I don't expect it to delay that much as there were in chittagong . I can recall the curator boasted that 30/45 min later the even worst possible rain , the ground will be ready . believing him , I hope there will be a timely start of the test . altough it rained heavily here , now there is no rainfor last 2 hours .

if we take 3 seamers , then there is a problem . taking sharif would put an extra pressure on him now I think . I don't like to surprise a player like this . 2 days back , he didn't even know that he can be a part of the test 11 of the national side . also , he has not attained at his best after the injury , I think .

if we take rasel , the problem is something big if you think yourself as a captain . certainly , you need to give the new ball to rasel . he is hardly effective with the older ball , I think . then only one of mash or shahdat can share the new ball . shahdat , I think would be pretty much efective with the new ball and it would suit his aggression , but we need mash to give jafar a yet another under 10 score and give dravid some hard time . however , thinking like that , we need mash against any of thier batsman like tendulkar and ganguli .

I think , if I were the captain , I would give mash the 1st new ball , shahadat the 2nd new ball . and whenever dada has come to the crease , I welcome him with giving shahadat a full go with fielders at short square leg , square leg and probably fine leg .and shahadat knows what length to ball:-D

however , I think rasel can be somewhat a big weapon to get dhoni out cheaply . as a captain , I would certainly tested that .

before ending ... go , bangladesh , go

kumble is a match inner for india , I hope our batsmen play him well .

Also ,I am a bit worried about how our batsmen play the new pace bowler . he is very tall and is called "lambu" as I had heard . And our batsmen ( except ashraful and aftab )tend to struggle against really tall fast bowlers .

I think , bangladesh would be in better position to win or draw if the pitch helps the spinners more than the quickies .

india does not have a very good spin attack . ramesh powar ... you know ... what he can do at best .... be smacked by mash for sixes ( and even by javed , now , that's something special ) .

oh ! to those of you , who are thinking of kumble .... kumble is india's best bowler , gr8 bowler but he is not an spinner . Bob woolmer once told younus khan and other pak players to deal with kumble as if he were an inswing bowler rather than a spinner .

I would say the same to the bd batsmen .

go tigers !

But I want to see a full five day match and the rain is really annoying so I don't wan't another delay cause of the rain!!!!And if we win we should win properly not because of the rain and even if we don't win we should play properly and work hard to try and get a win in this 5 day test match!!!!

I hope Mortaza does good in this test match and gets to bat higher up the order than usual :smug:!

Mortaza compared to the rest of the players in the Bangladesh National Cricket Team is the lone fighter :karate:.

Hence my following creation is dedicated to him . The Lone Fighter to the Very End!:

Just seen a glimpse of the wicket in star news, it will favour the pacer for the first 2 days according to the curator then it will start turning. It has little bit of grass on it but there is loads crack it will open up and create problem for batsman. The curator told the news reporter they wont cut the grass off when asked.
In my opinion BD should play three pacer. Enamul Haq jnr could be rested for this game. They brought in Mohammed Sharif because they knew about this pitch, he has already played in same pitch against England "A" when they toured Bangladesh. He did not do very well on that match.

according to DStar, they are dropping Enam for Rasel. I think its not a great move. I'd rather drop Hablu with Rasel (added bowling strength, retaining Enam) and then replace Pilot with Mushfiqur Rahim (neutralising the loss of Bashar)

But then... this is just wishful thinking :(

In all seriousness though, for the 4th and 5th days the weather forecast is that its going to be clear, probably sunny, and DAMN hot (37'C). The pitch is gonna dry up and if the cracks appear, then dropping Enam from the side will be suicidal!

Let me rephrase question for you - if we win the toss and choose to bat first, we may be facing Indian pacers in a seam/swing friendly condition (depriving our pacers to take advantage of condition), and if we choose to bat second then we are taking the risk of facing Kumble on the 4th innings (provided we won't be forced to follow on). So, which option is better - bat first or second ?

And speaking of batting against spin, I was just thinking about how Bangladesh has to go to Sri Lanka soon for the next series. 9.15 am Hello everybody and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the second Test between Bangladesh and India at Mirpur. After the washout in the first Test, let's hope we get a result in this time. I'm George Binoy and I'll be your commentator for the day.

The news last night from Mirpur was terrible, with heavy showers lashing the city. But there's good news, albeit unconfirmed, this morning. Sidharth Monga, our man on the spot, has this to say, "After heavy rains for about two hours last night, it is quite a surprise that they are looking to start on time. Although we don't have any access to the ground, it looks fine from the press box. The covers have been taken off, the teams have started training. Last night's downpour, when everything that could fall fell from the sky, was the first big test for the drainage of this stadium and it seems to have done well. The word is still not official, but the indications are they will start on time."

From CI -

Toss, 9.30 am Habibul Bashar has won the toss and has asked India to bat. His decision was perhaps influenced by the overnight rain and because the ball might do a bit in the morning.

In the preview, Sidharth Monga had this to say about the pitch and the conditions. "The weather in Mirpur has become more humid than it was when India last visited for the first two one-dayers earlier this month. The pitch will demand hard work from the bowlers - it wears a dark look because of the black clay used here, which makes the surface hard. It is expected to be bouncier than the one at Chittagong, but the lack of grass means bowlers won't be queuing up for their chance to run in and let it fly."

I like the decision.

Technically, Bangladesh isn't yet at a stage to bat first in Test matches. We're too shaky with the bat, and the worst we can do is put up a small total, and let the opponent score BIG in their first innings. In the second innings, our batsmen will choke, giving the opponents a chance to win by an innings. It's a regular feature for Bangladesh, and I'm not willing to take that risk.

Good decision by Bashar.

from cricinfo...

Teams Bangladesh have dropped Enamul Haq jnr, the left-arm spinner, and strengthened their pace attack by bringing in Mohammad Sharif. Shahadat Hossain has taken ill and Syed Rasel will take his spot.

India have made just one change, they've dropped VRV Singh and given Ishant Sharma, the fast bowler from Delhi, his first Test cap.

Mash, get a wicket in the first over.

Habibul Bashar has won the toss and has asked India to bat.

why????? R u all agree with that?

Very aggressive decision indeed. If you want to have control of the match, it's a good decision. But 4th innings e bat korte hobe, kumble ke mote patta e dilona. Lets see if they can prove it at the end.

Could have been safer to bat first.

Toss, 9.30 am Habibul Bashar has won the toss and has asked India to bat. His decision was perhaps influenced by the overnight rain and because the ball might do a bit in the morning.

Hmmm ... lets see ...

Kabir bhai, I guess you are 100% correct....

Rajib is ill!!!!!!!!!!!!:(
syed rasel is replacing him...hopefully he'll do well. i'm gonna miss rajib play:(

about bashar deciding to field first...well i think bangladesh is better at fielding than batting......hopefully they'll get all the indian players out today (even with rajib gone)!!!!!!

9.58 am The umpires, Billy Doctrove and Daryl Harper, are out in the middle. Here come the Indian openers, Wasim Jaffer and Dinesh Karthik. Jaffer scored a pair at Chittagong and he'll be desperate to score that first run today. Mashrafe Mortaza, however, will have other ideas. He has the new ball and is bowling from over the wicket with three slips and a gully in place.
