Vijay Amritraj bets on Aisam Qureshi defeating Marat Safin tomorrow

The big names are through the second round.

Federer won his 50th consecutive grass court match.

Federer, Nadal, Roddick, Blake, Hass, Dravid kano (Davydenko), Djokovic, Hewitt, Safin all advanced. Henman got the boot even after winning equal number of games. Aisam-ul haq qureshi lost to Safin in straight sets.

Sharapova vs Bremond today... What an EXCELLENT contest in 2nd set.

excerpt From The Guardian Sport (http://sport.guardian.co.uk/wimbledon2007/story/0,,2114548,00.html):

It took 77 minutes but might easily have lasted a lot longer against an opponent who again played well. Brémond returned most of Sharapova's heaviest serves, made only a few more unforced errors than her very forcing opponent, mixed in disconcerting slices and net forays, and played a large number of baseline points with mobility and skill.

Sharapova countered it in excellent fashion, because these days she summons the patience to play long rallies with controlled aggression more readily if needed, which it was. It rewarded her at one stage with a remarkable scoreline of 6-0, 2-0 in what had been a reasonably well-contested match.

Federer defeats Safin to move on to Fourth Round. Decisively according to the scores, will watch it tonight.

For ladies, my favourite Henin is onto Fourth Round too. Hope its a Henin-Sharapova final

...I want Hingis to win

Whats with her nagging injury. They say she's only 60% fit. Which is why I dont think it'll be likely.

Watched the highlights of Federer vs Safin. At times Safin gave a good contest, but other times he was thoroughly outclassed.

Nalbaldian is in trouble against Baghdatis. Roddick has an unseed. Nadal, Hewitt crusing.

Sweet.... Henin goes to Quarterfinals without having conceded any sets in the tournament yet.

Serena Williams wins, with great difficulty and a bout of severe cramp. Venus Williams is through to 4th Round as well

And wowee.... the Alena (?) Ivanovic, French Open runner up is a real cutie. She's going through too it seems.

Plenty of Rain Interruptions... Nadal vs Soderling is really becoming interesting.

Nadal (2), Federer(1) and Djokovic(4) are through to the semis. Roddick (3) is playing his quarterfinal match against Gasquet leading 6-2, 1-2.

In the semis 1 facing 3, 2 facing hopefully 4? Why is that?

Five setter still not exciting? ;)

At least it wasn't like the French Open finals, no competition.

To me, on grass I couldn't expect rallies. Both players played some excellent shots and volley. At the end Federer just went in to another gear after getting two lives in game #5 and #7.

Few more wins like this I have to change my opinion on Federer.

Nadal is getting better at a phenomenal pace. He is now a lot closer to Federer on grass than Federer is to Nadal on clay but I don't see Nadal overtaking Roger this year's US open.More significantly, he hasn't survived past the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open yet.Quicker surface always favours Federer. IMO, Djokovic can be a real threat for Federer this year's US open.

The difference is in serves. Nadal has to develop his serve to edge past Federar. Here's the final statistics. Nadal produced only one Aces compared to Federar's 24 and that was the main difference. In other aspects of the game they are agonizingly close.

For some reason when Nadal plays in the U.S open he decides to play clay court style of play with the loopy forehands, instead of the flatter ones he plays on grass. Djokvic is a few Majors away. U.S Hard Court season time somebody usually gets Hot around this time. Federer usually skips a few events. Nadal can even close the gap even more in terms of points and if can win the open he might even be #1.

I agree in that Nadal is gonna win Wimbledon before Federer can even sniff the French.

The difference is in serves. Nadal has to develop his serve to edge past Federar. Here's the final statistics. Nadal produced only one Aces compared to Federar's 24 and that was the main difference. In other aspects of the game they are agonizingly close.

I don't agree, as long as Nadal can get the First Serve in he better than Federer. Fed only broke him once before the 5th set and if Nadal got one of those early breaks in the 5th it would have been over.

chances don't come often. Ask Phillipusous!! Lendle was so close few times (wimbledon). Pete, Edberg, Becker never made it to the top (french). I would back Roddick up again for the US open. Roddick's loss was so dissappointing. Federer don't look that super human any more in fast courts. We will see.

I think Roddick will be a better candidate for the title in the US open. He is probably fuming after that defeat.

Five setter still not exciting? ;)

Not all five setters are exciting. This one was not exciting because it played like clay court tennis rather than grass court tennis.

At least it wasn't like the French Open finals, no competition.

You jest. The FO finals were definitely competitive when Federer focused in.

To me, on grass I couldn't expect rallies.

Yeah, I didn't like so many rallies on grass either.

Both players played some excellent shots and volley.

Federer was expected to make good shots since this is his favorite surface. But I would say he was not at his aggressive best for most of the match (except for his service and aces). He was too defensive and pinned to the baseline. He made too many weak returns of serve and let Nadal take control of many rallies by playing passive and defensive tennis. This is one of the reasons why the match went to 5 sets, instead of Federer closing it out in 4 sets.

But credit to Nadal for hanging tough and never lose belief in winning. He is one of the few players who don't just roll over at the prospect of an imminent defeat at Federer's hands. This gives us the opportunity to observe just how mentally tough Federer really is.

At the end Federer just went in to another gear after getting two lives in game #5 and #7.

Federer snuffed out the Nadal BPs with some great clutch serving. He earned the "lives" by himself.

Few more wins like this I have to change my opinion on Federer.

Don't tell me you started watching tennis and Federer only recently. Try to remember Federer's 5 set victory over Sampras back in 2001. That was the changing of the guard.

I've found women's tennis far more interesting ever since Lendl and the Mac retired and Sampras took the art out of the men's game. Though the Federer V. Nadal gigs are getting me interested again.

Great to see the Williams sisters coming back with a roar nobody thought they'd muster again at this point.

the grass courts have been slowed down over the past few years, now it's too slow which is why there were so many rallies this year. imo they should quicken it up a bit next year. federer hasn't been palying his best all year, wimbledon wasn't an exception either. he served great but his forehand has been off it's best all year, though it was better at the aus open. but if the wimbledon courts remain a similar speed to what they were this year then i think we'll see nadal win it in the next few years.
