Ash with his batting style looks like he is using a Samurai. Very discipline and confident with his bat movement. Only if he used his brain like his hands.

Okay, here's where I'll jump in.

350 runs is meaningless if it's not said in terms of the amount of time spent in the middle. I would rather put it as, 300+ runs in at least 150 overs. If that's something our batsmen are capable of doing, I'll say that's good. And that's when it'll make the difference between our current Test side, and the one that made 300+ in 150 overs.

Agree, but do you think our batsmen can stay that longer? It will require so much patience and temperment that they never ever did that in their whole cricketing career(individually, as a team they might did once or twice). We can't expect them to do that against world class SL bowling attack. I see no hope from our batsmen to stay in crease for 150 overs or even bat for four sessions in one innings, we are that much unprepared for test.

The question isn't whether they can stay that longer or not, but that they MUST do it if they are to be considered even a mediocre Test playing team.

So far, yes, we haven't seen much of that patience. We've seen that here and there, but nothing too substantially. What we need at the moment is put those patience in pracice, and make it a habit. Consider Ashraful and Rajin's innings in first Test. They were patient for the most part. As soon as they played a silly shot, they found themselves back in the dressing room. That only points to one thing, which is, they know that they have to be patient and calm while in Test, and they're trying their best to do that too. It's just that sometimes, our "stupid" side of the brain takes over the "rational" side. That's what our players have to control.

At the moment, considering these criteria, players like Aftab are the worst choices for Test. Give him a bat, and he'll try to hit everyone. That's what you call reckless. Look at Tamim. He's shown some rationality in his shot selection. But every so often, we see him lose his patience, and try and unleash himself. That's where he needs to do some homework.

There's no direct solution to these. These need continuous effort from every angle. Psychiatrists can't help until they play a considerable amount of time in the middle, and play more 4-day matches at home. International arena isn't a place for them to "learn at the job", but a place for them to "show what they've learnt behind the scenes". And these "behind the scenes" happen to be, in this case, domestic 4-day matches. Until they practice for all that, they cannot make it a habit. And until they make it a habit, they can't survive in the middle.

BCB? do they really know where is our problem? or are they cricket organizers because of their passion to the game or something (don't need to elaborate, I guess) else ? Most of them came to BCB for making money, fame, etc etc. Not for developing the game. Thats why after a bad series, the summoned coach, captain, manager and never think at the origin of the problem.

Hopefully our batting wont collapse. we have more options in m.sharif who is a seamer and can bat! finally we have three seamers.(it will come to use on this bouncier pitch). We have learnt our lessons and we have had batting lessons, if we flop again there will be absolutely no excuses.

You are in ON, Canada. You'll have enough sleep before the game kicks off. Try to sleep early, get a five our sleep and get up at 1:00 am to watch the match. This is what I'll do, although the game will start at 12:00 midnight my time.

FaridpurChicago

My guess is, four out of our main five (JO, Ash, Rajin, Mehrab, Mushy) will hit 50+. Two among our 4 grade 2 batsmen (SN, Hablu, Mashrafe, Shahadat) will cross 25. This will take our first innings to 300+ and keep the team in the middle for four sessions.

If it happens, I'm happy with this.

Tigers have my full support, whether they win or lose. I just don't wanna have a bad day at work because of being cranky as hell. And I'll be cranky only if they play horrible. Until they give me enough reasons to stay up all night, I won't do that.

peace,

i am hoping that no matter whoever bats first, i am hoping that bangladesh gives their 100% effort in every department of the game on the first day. one tiny silly mistake for any Bangladeshi player could cost us another heavy defeat.

my hopes: Bangladesh plays very well on the first day. what happens on the first day is crucial to impact the results of the next days in the test match.

i am not expecting any fancy stuff from Bangladesh, no paddle shots, no unnecessary shots when we bat in tests, save that for ODI (when you feel it is needed and beneficial).

bowling, i do not expect any fancy stuff either, u just bowl with your main four key bowlers, when they get tired, just rotate.

my expectations in this test: don't worry the world is still rightside up, the sun still shines over Bangladesh and the world so be calm and give it your best no matter what the results are, if we do really really really good, then remember, don't get cocky(to the fans and the players) it is not over until YOU WON.

even if you do make a silly mistake just try your best to compensate for that mistake and have fun

thats cuz when we bat, the boys stay on earth and we move at a relativistic speed...therby after 30 minutes, its alread time for lunch with the score at 80-6

No.6 and 7?Don't worry guys, this time it's hopefully gonna be much better than last time. If Shahadat and Mash can take 2 or 3 wickets in the first ten overs again and if Sharif then gets one, we're in !! Let's bowl and scare the shits out of these Lankans. If we bat, I can see Nafees ,Ash and Bashar all longing for a long innings.300 is not a problem.:D

From TigerCricket. Go here (http://www.tigercricket.com/viewNews.aspx?newsID=399) for full preview.

Pre-match Quotes:

Bangladesh Coach Shaun Williams

(On Mushfiqur Rahim’s inclusion)
We needed some extra batting and Mushfique’s batting in the last few games has shown that he’s quite a capable batsman. It is a tough decision to leave out someone like Khaled Mashud who has been in the team for a long time and has been a wonderful servant of Bangladesh cricket. But we are looking to give Musfique a go and we are hopeful that he would do well.

Bangladesh Captain Mohammad Ashraful

(On how difficult it was to leave out Khaled Mashud)
It was difficult. He has probably played 95 percent of the Test matches we have appeared in. Mashud has a lot of experience so it was not easy leave him out. But Mushfique has batted well in the practice game and his keeping also improving all the time and we have picked Mushfique for this match because we feel that would be good for the team.

(On why left arm paceman Syed Rasel, who had taken four wickets in an innings here the last time Bangladesh played wasn’t picked)

We have two new ball bowlers in Mashrafe (Mortaza) and Rajib (Shahadat Hossain). Sharif has a reputation of bowling well with the older ball and we felt he would be a better option than Rasel in this match and his batting ability is an added plus.

(On Shakib Al Hasan)

Shakib is a very talented cricketer but we thought a break would be beneficial for him. Mehrab has a good track record in domestic four-day matches and we are confident that he would do well on debut.

(Whether Mehrab Hossain would have felt more comfortable opening)

He has batted in every position in domestic cricket and also when he played in the Dhaka Division team with me. He would bat at number six tomorrow. Our target is to perform the way we did on day three of the first Test and if we can bat out 80 overs then he’ll have a chance of playing the new ball like an opener if he can stay at the crease.

(Expectations)

I am very confident that we can do better than we did in the first Test with the side we have selected. We have not set any target, rather we want to improve every day. We have strengthened our batting and I would like to see us bat for atleast four sessions. That would help the team.

(The wicket at the P Sara)

The last time we played here the ball was moving a bit at first and we got four early wickets. I expect something similar this time too but after a couple of overs it should get baiting-friendly.
There is more grass on this wicket than the SSC pitch which was one the slower side. This would be quicker.

(On Sri Lanka)

They are good in every department. I think from our point of view we have to be a bit tougher. If we are tough out there then we should perform well.

Mushfiqur Rahim

(Target for the second Test)

For me it is just a case of going out there and trying to do much, much better than what I have done so far in Test cricket now that I have another opportunity.

Mehrab Hossain (Jr.)

(His feelings going into his debut Test)

I am not thinking of the debut or anything. I have experience of four-day matches and here there will be an additional day and I want to remain focused throughout. There are no individual targets. I just want to perform to best of my ability.

Well, he supposedly can reverse swing the old ball (which Rasel can't), but I did not see any of that in the BD vs India test. He has a front on action (!) and the right hand swings like a ferris wheel and the ball goes straight all the way 2 feet away from the off stamp.....horrible!

I have a feeling the toss is gonna be a bit dodgy - apparently the pitch will help quicker bowlers. That means if we bat first, we'll have to face Malinga & Vaas on a bowling freindly pitch and scores like 40/5 becomes inevitable whereas if we bowl first ( like we did on the supposedly bowling friendly pich at Mirpur against India ) there is a good chance that we'll be crushed by the Srilankan batting and after conceding a 600+ total and almost two days on the field, we'll become 40/5 at the end of day 2.

Anyone knows what to do?

48 th player to debut for BD in 47 tests !

Why don't we introduce cap numbers stitched on to represent the players debut ? other countires do it. 100th test player in five years? maybe, a bit of a stretch, but 50 will be reached by next year!
