We desperately need to improve our scoreboard for the 1st Innings to give the Lankans a good fight. But we have to see that Mashrafe reinforces his batting abilities and stays at the crease for at least one full session of today's play.

Don't sugar coat any bangladeshi out as "rush of blood". If they have that frequent rush of blood then they should wait another 10 yr before start playing test and cool down their blood.

Anyone think sledging had something to do with Ash's rush of blood?

i think, we shouldn't play another test with srilanka in next three years...what's the point?

You don't always play for points. You play to learn to embrace hardship and difficulty.
Remember Theoder Rubin said "The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem."
"If you're going through hell, keep going." Winston Churchill
Like oprah said "Turn your wounds into wisdom. " Therefore it is vital that we keep playing and always remember failure is the pillar of succes. We want to make sure that our foundation of success is built on strong pillars so that it does not cruble like a house of cards.

Maybe you dont get the idea of "facts," or maybe you dont understand "provocation".

Interesting Comment :

Time to check the inbox. Jagdish writes: "Now, Sri Lanka should declare their innings with the scores level at 131 and then they try to bowl Bangladesh out at the earliest and then try to win to make the balance runs. If they wait to build a huge lead like first two Tests then they may lose important time to win this mach as well."

BD batsmen have traditionally been poor against spinners - recall Grant Flower running through them and the leaked Aussie dossier (from the down under tour). We don't have any spinners at home who give the ball a big rip so that doesn't help. Our batters tend to push hard at the ball rather than play with soft hands. And Murali has run through stronger sides than ours :)

Timtim
July 12, 2007, 04:57 AM
Murali's biggest weapon is his "Dusra", the ball that turns (often quite sharply) like legspin rather than his usual off-spin.

Unless you can READ murali, that is you can tell if its gonna be a regular ball or dusra by just looking at his bowling action, you should not play him like any other spinner.

Theres two ways, one is to make contact with the ball at a full toss length, that is before it bounces on the pitch. This way you are not going to be fooled by the turn.

The other way, is to play it on the backfoot. Do not poke at the ball, or even make contact unless you are absolutely sure which way it is turning. This is not that hard to do because he usually tosses his deliveries up.

Many, and I mean MANY of Murali's wickets are from the tailenders. They make a huge stride usually, having no clue which way the ball is turning and usually knicks the ball to the close fielders. Lots of batsmen just poke at the dusra at the last minute, hoping to make contact I don't know why.

Our batsmen need to get over the murali fear....Ash can read him perfectly as it seems. Rajin has the most difficulty playing him as it's clearly visible.

I think the problem with Masrafe is that he has been asked to play slow and defend which is certainly not working for him. I think he should be allowed to play his natural game and then only we will see him back. I would not mind a quick 20-30 by Masri when the rest of the team has surrendered. Well, atleast this will give the team some sort of confidence.

I agree with everything except the part where murali getting tailenders' wickets. SInce i can't compare all the bowlers i will comepare #1 and #2, #1 Shane Warne, #2 Murali

Shane K. Warne (Australia)
Top Order(1-3) 163 (23.0%)
Middle Order(4-7) 282 (39.8%)
Tail Order(8-11) 263 (37.1%)

http://howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerWicketAnalysisGraph.asp?PlayerID=1856

Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka)
Top Order(1-3) 173 (25.3%)
Middle Order(4-7) 296 (43.3%)
Tail Order(8-11) 214 (31.3%)

http://howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Players/PlayerWicketAnalysisGraph.asp?PlayerID=1234

he gets the top order batsmen (which only has 3 batsmen compared to tail enders and middle order which has 4 each) out more than tail enders.

As tail enders have problem handling Murali why don't we reshuffle batting order like promoting Mashrafee to bat at #3 ----- he feels comfortable handling pacers and down grading Bashar to Mashrafee's position for the 2nd innings. In cricket you have to gamble ------ remember Imran Khan gamblin decision to open innings with spinners against India and it paid off!!
