Controversy from Trent Bridge, July 2007.

The umpires (Taufel and Howell) were forced to intervene after Zaheer advanced on Pietersen brandishing his bat as tempers frayed on the third evening of the second Test - shades of the infamous Lillee and Miandad exchange from the 80's.

This confrontation boiled over when Zaheer edged his first ball past a diving Pietersen in the gully and away for four. Words were exchanged - centred on the quality of the shot - and when Zaheer began heatedly pointing his bat in Pietersen's direction, umpire Ian Howell walked over from square-leg to calm everyone down.

Srishanth then bowled a beamer at Pietersen when he came into bat.

this sort of behaviour is totally against the spirit of the game at the highest level. although you see it at club level a lot, it just should not be permitted at international level. all three of these players should be fined their entire match fee.
