Bdnews24 reported former national cricketer Dipu Roy and his wife are arrested.
Dhaka, Aug 8 (bdnews24.com) – RAB Wednesday arrested Dipu Roy Chowdhury, a coach for Bangladesh Cricket Board, and his wife for their alleged roles in illegal migration of workers into foreign countries, police said.
Gulshan police sub-inspector Zia Latiful Islam told bdnews24.com that the couple had been arrested in an evening raid on a house in Banani.
The officers of RAB-1 took the former national cricketer and wife Arifa Roy Chowdhury, nicknamed Putul, to Gulshan Police Station.
RAB officers seized four passports and a can of beer from them, Islam said.
A case was underway to file against the two under the Passport Act, he said.
BCB spokesman Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Boby told bdnews24.com: "I heard he was arrested. I think the BCB will do something about it. We have to wait until morning (Thursday)."

Dipu Roy Chy was our coach when we used to train in an academy called CCS in Abahoni ground. I can barely recall how he looks (it was a good 10 years ago), all I remember was his strict punishments (5 bar mathey round mara) if we were late for practice......
unexpected, to say the least....

His perfromance isn´t impressive in natl team. He got hardly any wkt against team like Fiji and Papua New Guinea in ICC trophy (5 wkts in 10 matches).

I also remember his atrocious left arm medium pacers being sprayed and spanked all over the pitch and park against MCC and Sri Lanka during the 70s. Clark and Duleep Mendis in particular were particularly brutal ... cool hairstyle back then though.

Let's not forget his contribution in Bangladesh cricket, especially in grooming the youngsters. He was a decent coach who worked as Coach for Bangladesh A team, U-19 team and is currently working with Bangladesh National Cricket Academy as a specialist coach along with Nannu and Wahidul Gani.
Really saddened to know his downfall, greed can destroy anyone. It's a bad bad news for our cricket.

I think he made a pretty decent contribution as a coach.
To me he is innocent until he proven guilty. I hope he did not commit all those crimes.

I am afraid that's the start of the end. May be, we can find all the ex-players and coaches corrupted one by one.

While we should all presume innocence until guilt is proven (no Napoleonic code here thank you), my thoughts turn to the poor beer can. [বাংলা]বেচারা[/বাংলা] beer can. Surely this inanimate object is fully [বাংলা]বেকসুর[/বাংলা]? Why arrest it then? :)
Note, I'm a life-long teetotaler - so not endorsing any sudsy beverage here :)

What's wrong with the can of beer? Is alcohol banned in Bangladesh? If not, then why is it anyone's business?

I have lot of memories with him . I can't forget those MARATHON ADDAS at Abahani club. He was also coach of our team Kalabagan KC and was one of the pionier for Kalabagan's famous under13 cricket tournament. I feel sorry for him.

this is how the name can be tarnished in BD for ever. Such as Moudud. If he ever wants to campaign the opposition would bring out slogan that would have "modkhor" in it. Mollahs would take full advantage of this.
People would say, "amar chelerey oi modkhor'er kasey Cricket shiktey pathabo?"

BCB to give Dipu legal support
Sports Reporter
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday confirmed that it would help the arrested Dipu Roy Chowdhury with legal aid.
"As and where required, we will give him legal support because he is our employee," said media committee chairman Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Bobby during the press conference at the board headquarters.
On Wednesday night, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the former national cricketer and his wife Arifa Chowdhury from a Banani house on charge of forgery and embezzling a large amount of money from illegal manpower trade. Rab-1 recovered five passports from Dipu, who also allegedly sent players abroad for the past five years. The players, who were supposed to play for local clubs, did not return to the country and have been living there ever since.
Back in 2002, the former fast bowler deceived many in the name of sending them to Canada.
Dipu Roy Chowdhury was a left-arm fast bowler who played for Bangladesh on several occasions. He is a bowling coach with the Bangladesh Academy team.
Looks like we got some bc members from Canada who use to play under him... any connections??? (just kidding people)...

As far as I know it is illegal for Bangladeshis to have alcohol even for personal consumotion if we go strictly by the law. I think this is one of the reasons why it is so hard to get a bar license in Bangladesh.

LOL! How stranger the news reporting is in the Bangla media. I often read how cans of beer or bottles of liquor are found in a suspects house, as if to imply guilt by association! I haven't been to Bangladesh in 8 years but from what I hear, the sale of alcohol has been legalized there. I cannot fathom how "a can of beer" is relevant to the arrest of Dipu Roy Chowdhury and his wife for illegal trafficking.

Ya ... before its was crossfire now suddenly RAB start getting alcohol in the suspect's home (instead of crossfire)..is it possible our RAB themsleves start drinking some alcohol themselves while goingh to raid? Nah....
...tou bhhaloo ... crossfire kills people... finding alcohol will just put them n jail.

Man it's sad that people who are former national cricketer or are somehow related to cricket are doing this but if it is true then it is a good news as they are getting caught and will not be able to do it again.........hopefully.

Anyone who is familiar with the Nirman cricket of the 90's must be familiar with Dipu Sir. I am not sure what the allegations are, or if they are justified, but it seems the puppet government is messing up everything by making "some" stupid arrests and making the "good" arrest seem trivial and fake.

He coached me when I was at cricket coaching center in abohani field almost 10 years back! He looked the best out of all the coaches and had high hopes from me as a cricketer(fast bowler)! WHen I left the center, he called my parents and requested them to send me back. I hope accusations are false, but if they are right he should be duly punished.
