aftab is the 8th best ODI one down bat since august 2004, according to s rajesh.
quite surprised his cut-off wasn't at top 7 batsmen only...he must have screwed himself over with his first chart going past 7, hehehe.

Aftab is the best #3 and #6 batsman we have. Which one is more important? #3 of course, and yet, we rarely see him there lately.
did you notice that he has the best strike rate among all the batsmen in the table?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Keeping AA out of any BD side is nothing short of sedition ... I am dead serious.

8th best? Wonder where THAT puts him. Ahead of the WI #3, perhaps? Links?

Why? Ahead of Ireland isn't good enough?

lol, he set the criteria of total runs (790) to include some big name like Mahela so that he can highlight Ian Bell .

Now that's more like it. The A** kicking they receiving today, he would have come up with something else to get bell in the spot light. may be its Yuvi's turn.

I still reckon he's a better number 6.
We need a number three who can pre-empt a collapse.

I agree. He'll be good at # 5 also at this particular point in his career. Let him learn to harness his talent and earn places higher up the order.

Mahir bhaia,
apney cilantro chinen na? I love the smell. That's what Al Furqaan has in his hand.
One can be criticised only when s/he time and again leaves the door open for criticism. At times s/he may not know it and continue to think this type of practice is OK. (I am talking about Mr. Rajesh here)

bang on target.
anyways, i'd like to be BC's own rajesh - not in terms of biggoted research - but rather in researching our players in a million and one different ways.
i have already started compiling a database of all our current core players (about 20 of them) which basically has a match by match list of performances for their entire int'l careers.
tedious work indeed but i enjoy it. should be finished in a couple years.

Interesting. How detailed is your analysis?

first of all, its not anything to get excited about...its a simple excel spreadsheet. but the good thing is that allows any kind of calculation you might wanna make by just simply clicking, dragging, and inserting a easy forumla.
i making spreadsheets for batting (Tests and ODIs) and bowling (Tests and ODIs). i will also include fielding stats (like catches, and run outs) eventually.
but i have so far included all the basic stats you can find on cricinfo (runs, SR, avg) for batsmen and bowlers as well as including the venue (city of the match only), and innings of the match (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th for Tests).
i have also included a category called "Mean" or "Mean Score" which is simply runs scored divided by total innings played - for those who dislike unbeaten knocks inflating averages.

Even though Aftab has the best striking rate (91%) among those top 8, he is still far behind in his average.
Not even making the cut of 30+ average is a poor show indeed.
We all know he makes a great start, but its about time he needs to convert those quickfires into a solid big innings.

He set the criteria of 750 total runs, not 790.

His stats are far worse when he's either playing against Test teams (excluding Zimbabwe) or playing away from home (even against associates).
He scored 600 runs in 15 inningses with average of 54.54 against Zimbabwe / Kenya / Scotland at home.
Take out those matches, and his average becomes 18.44 at #3 during this period.
Verdict: World class at home against weak oppositions, otherwise rubbish.
