come on.
You don't have to watch 20/20 game to know whats going on!.
Either wicket or 4/6 thats it. They are not even trying. Bashar might have called some of them.

Most of you are over critical. From what I know, this game is not televised and all your comments on them not trying to score quickly are based on text commentary. Have you actually watched Twenty20 cricket? Everyone tries to smash the ball towards the end of an innings and guess what it doesn't always work - sometimes you get out, sometimes you get singles. The issue here is that apart from Nazimuddin, no batsman really has contributed to a significant innings, plus the target set by PAK was one of the higher scores you can get in T20.

This is unbelievable crap, the way we curled up our tails in the last few overs.

Here are a couple pics of our hero of today. Yes, he's a rather small person, but when he talked at the press conference, he sounded confident and hungry...similar to Tamim in temperament. I attended the press conference on behalf of bc.

I think the match was lost when 3 bowlers conceded 150 runs. One can concede 50 but not three.

Riyad cannot be blamed. He was simply out of his depth. This to me means , he should be a goner. We need to pursue people with class. He has not got it in him.

One thing that this match has taught us is that Mahmudullah must never play a Twenty20 match again! He is suited for Tests. Give Junaid a chance tommorow. I say if Ash wins the toss, he needs to choose to bat first no matter what so we can focus on our batting instead of chasing a Uganda total of 80.

I get the impression the latter order is having difficulty negotiating Shoaib. Whether it is the light or simple lack of class I do not know. I do know that facing extreme pace, Murtaza is not the same batsman.

they have faced akhtar before and not once aktar came on top of Bd batsmen. I think lack of light together with the sky high asking rate caused them to swing and gifted akhtar the wicket.

Well, look on the bright side , we have one more guy perhaps to pick the final 11 [ in any format ]. I still have only 7/8 automatic choices.

One more point: if the captain has no confidence in Riyad bowling or for that matter Mushfiq batting [ in a 20/20 ] why were they picked ? You are not telling me that Riyad was picked for his batting and Mushfiq for his keeping ?

Well T20 cricket is different from one day cricket. I've watched regular games at the Oval, and with the bowling, accuracy is far more important than speed. With the batting, running between the wickets, turning singles into 2s is as important as pitch hitting the ball, but you've got to place it right.

How can you say they are not trying? Can you see or hear the game? With few wickets remaining the better option is to get singles than to lose wickets. In what is at most for some players their 3rd ever T20 match, and the first against a stronger side, it has been alright since we didn't get battered. We didn't lose all our wickets, we were set a feasible target that was in reach for around 15 overs. Nazimuddin produced another strong innings. Ashraful took wickets, Rasel and Razzak were miserly with their bowling.

Stop being overly critical!

After 40 overs, it was really Imran's onslaught that took the game away from us. Mashrafe bowling short [ cricinfo ] for 3 overs did it. No plan B in bowling may also have contributed. It appears buying wicket with Ashraful's leggies is now official policy. Is he more accurate tahn Alok ? Why not bowl two overs each and spread the risk !!

We didn't lose all our wickets, we were set a feasible target that was in reach for around 15 overs. Nazimuddin produced another strong innings. Ashraful took wickets, Rasel and Razzak were miserly with their bowling.

Stop being overly critical!

Very rational thoughts. I agree, bro. But Tamim is a pain. We need to try Junaid in his place against Uganda to see if he can do better than him.

It's ok. We just need to play more as a team. The pitches in South Africa will be bouncier, so we should take that into account as well. A few changes in the line up, and we should have a decent side. Pakistan was never going to be easy, and this was a warm up. The main stage awaits.

I am glad that we've found someone who can push Tamim and Nafees in ODIs. I am glad that this kid is only 21 years old. He's already showed his potential and temparament. Now, its time for him to take this to the next level in ODIs.

Alok is expensive, being a flighty strike bowler and all, and was quite so in the NCL's List A matches. But I wonder why Ash has no faith in Riyad's bowling? Based on Riyad's one match "success", I see him in trying for a place in ODIs and possibly test cricket someday. It would appear that T20 is clearly not his thing.

It's time Junaed is brought into the mix instead of Riyad and Zia instead of Farhad at least for the Uganda match, bat Aftab at 6 or 7, and see what happens. Farhad was brought into the team for his ability to hit 6s down the order, and I'm not sure if he even tried to do that today. A decent strike rate not helping the situation on the pitch is BS. The expensive and subsequently costly wickets notwithstanding, his bowling continues to be a joke alongside the sitters he tends to drop at every level.

Ashraful may have grabbed three today, but he's really not a bowler. We should give Kapali a few overs, and if Riyad's not bowling, then replace him with Junaid or Nadif.

Ash yes, but also Aftab. 40 runs between them at their pace could have done it, maybe. It was a tall order after Imran and Younis's onslaught.

Well I blame it on Faruque and co. After all, Faruque did not want too many prospective openers , did he for family reasons.

nazim is not an opener. he always played at N0.3 in both version of the game..

but surprisingly, hes playing as an opener in the 20/20.. n doing good.

Bro, I know that you are angry and so am I. It is extermely frusterating to see a team lose so often but it will get better. 10 years ago, we were an associate member. Now we can actually compete with teams like India, South Africa and SriLanka in ODI's. Test is a different story. But bro just be patient. We found another solid player inshallah in Nazimuddin. In 5-10 years, we will be a team that wins matches regularly but for now just enjoy watching the matches without having big expectations.

We should be satisfied with today's performances. Why Mahmudullah did not bowl ? Another blunder was to choose fielding against the mighty batting side like Pak. Farhad should have batted ahead of Mashrafee ( His strike rate much higher than Mash). In 20/20 you have to hit 4's & 6's ------ so you need a WK like Sagir or Dhiman. I would like to see Sakib ( If fit ) and Junayed in the next match in place of Mahmudullah and Tamim.

In the shorter forms of the game , they have improved. Rasel and Razzak are class acts. Aftab, Ashraful can be deadly in ODI situations. Nazim appears to be good. Where was he all this time ?
Due to dirty club politics by Faruk & gang !!

This is such a poor judgement. Nazim is by far the man of the match here. Afridi is the secord man to be man of the match as he blasted a quick 32 and 2 wickets which changed the course of the match.. :timeout:

Let's face it, how many of you honestly expected us to win this match at the beginning? Save Nazim's heroics, there wasn't an awful lot of useful contribution from any batsmen other than Alok. If Tamim, Ash and Aftab added 30-40 quick runs between them, then we had a great chance of winning. The match has its positives and negatives. Razzak and Rasel bowled tremendously well. Mash was just terrible all around, and Farhad picked up two wickets but at a price too high. Batting, well it's obvious Nazim is a very promising player, but it was essentially a one man show and that has to change. We also dropped a few catches, from what I've read. So that's something that needs to be worked on. The match should have indicate where our faults lie, hopefully they can be addressed in time.

If its from a winning side then why not Afridi who has the best bowling figure and a quickfire 32 which was crucial for adding some extra runs in the end!

if i blame the loss, i blame it on a few of our top order and lower order batsmen who failed to occupy the crease for a decent period of time and help Nazimuddin.

but it was a good loss. let's take something from this game and move on from here.

anybody reaalize this is our 1st ever intertation T20 loss. don't feel bad. if they lost performing horrible, i would have have not been happy(neither of us would) but come on keep it up and build on your batting weaknesses...

One thing that this match has taught us is that Mahmudullah must never play a Twenty20 match again! He is suited for Tests.
This guy is probably just another bits and pieces player who is not good enough for any format of international cricket.

I have been watching Mash over the years, he is a fiesty player. remember he saved Bangladesh from a follow on against India this year. I watched him play well so often. I think he he is hiding an injury, something is wrong.

Hopefully, they will win against Uganda, but Pakistan wins this series.
In south Africa Bangaldesh should beat Scotland and then kenya in their warm up matches.
We have seen them making 160 runs in 20 overs without Mash, Tamim, Ash and Aftab
contributing. If they can contribute well, there is nothing stopping them from making at least 180 runs in a match. Ash should have batted first. Bad mistake, but Bangladesh feels a jinx when they bat First.

Yes, Pakistan is not new to 20/20 matches, but Bangladesh is. They should play a bit more in domestic cricket, but in the coming season, with the New Zealand tour coming up, they have to concentrate more on 4 day matches to get their batsmen mentally prepared to stay longer at the crease, or else it will be the same debacle we witnessed in Sri Lanka where the only bright spot was Ash making another Test century.

September 2, 2007, 10:35 AM
I don't mind this loss. We gave them a fight. But we could have done better if our key batsmen would have scored. Bowling needs to be tighter. Ash should try to rotate bowlers, he could have used Mahmudullah and even Kapali. Probably we are missing Sakib's bowling.

Well-played BD, very well-played Nazim. Wickets of Aftab, Ashraful and Alok were vital. They all seemed to be in gr8 touch. If only one of them could stand a little more, the match would have been ours.

I don't blame Mashrafee. In 20-20, getting the touch from the start is vital. He did not have that unfortunately.

I actually don't like shuffling of players much. But Tamim needs to be replaced, may be by Zunaid. Tamim is a hit-and miss player. Seems to be a very good short version match player. But his strike rate suggests that he misses more often than hitting. If you are missing, you must be able to go in the mood of taking singles to get the touch back. He is incapable of that.

We cannot underestimate Uganda. Bangladesh should take note of this. I was shocked to see that they beat Kenya. Their confidence is up, and they will go all out against Bangladesh. This should be an easy win for Bangladesh I hope, sometimes expectations are high for Bangladesh and they let us down, like in yesterday's match against pakistan. they could have easily won that match.
