Essex move for Kaneria

Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is set to join Essex for the 2004 season.
The 21-year-old has been offered a one-year contract by the club, who were relegated from Championship Division One this summer.

"It will be a good learning experience for me and hopefully make me a better bowler," the 22-year-old said.

He has so far taken 51 wickets in 12 Test appearances, including best figures of 7-77 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in January 2002.

Kaneria will be the third Pakistani to play county cricket at Chelmsford following Salim Malik and Mohammad Akram.

He will fill one overseas place, with the other taken by Zimbabwe-born new ball bowler Scott Brant, who is returning for a second season.

Essex were able to move for Kaneria because batsman Andy Flower is now eligible to play under a British passport
