I know the preseason matters very little since the starters only play for a series or two. However, no team in Preseason lost all games and won the super bowl. Automatically two teams are out of the running. Sorry akabir. Your Chiefs and Arizona cardinals can't make it this year.

The season starts from September 6, 2007.

Go J-E-T-S.

Here is my fantasy team lineup: Brees/Palmer, LT/Steven Jackson/Gore, Holts/R. Williams/Fitzgerald, Baltimore D/ST. Its a four team league. That explains why I got all the top RBs.

Season starts tomorrow. Yahoooooo.

You are absolutely correct. I feel for the WI fans. Emon dhuna khabey...

Wish KC best of luck. Since the hype of college football is too much in Arkansas I am more in to college Football.

J-E-T-S!! J-E-T-S!! J-E-T-S!! S-A-D-I !!
They have a good shot at leading the division.

Dallas will still disapoint in the play offs. Arizona, San Fran might get lucky and sneak in the playoffs.

Eagles are over rated. I like the chargers and Chicago to challenge my Colts for NFL supremacy. Bush is still in lala land.

Loved the raiders at one time, Marcus Allen was the boss. Never liked the skins. Followed the cowgirls religiously before Manning took over the Colts. Hoping the lighting strikes again this year.

Ah Da Snake, Marcus and later BO "Knows" Jackson, the greatest ever who never was. Jim "Junkett" and Lester Hayes from way back when when I didn't really like them too much ... religious awakenings ... USF, Berkeley, my (now ex) wife Elizabeth, the F100 job, Big Sur, surfing, the KZ 1000 ...

Theismann, Riggins, Monk, Nelms and "Lil Joe" Wasington, and later Dough Williams for the Skins ... getting an adult to buy us cheap beer (the religious awakening happned much later), Christine Honeywell and Dee Dee Wilson from William Wirt Jr. High and JFK High in Silver Spring ... good times.

Don't really follow the NFL at all these days but do make it a point to watch the Superbowl.

Most of my interest went away when the second best back in the history of Football retired early (Barry Sanders). He was Jazz at the Music City. He was art. He was humble (never spiked a ball after a touchdown) and graceful. He ran like no back have ever ran in the history (college or Pro). Actually his silky smooth move can't be compared with anyone. Not even Jim Brown (the best ever), Payton, OJ, Campbell or Emmitt Smith. May be MJ minus the rings.

The colts finished off the Saints. 41 - 10 in the season opener. It was a 10 - 10 tie at the half ;) 31 unanswered points in the 2nd half. Manning was superb. Money was good too. Ah! you ask who is Money? No it is not Marvin Harrison nor Wanye. It is Adam Vinateiri. 100% finishing as of yet.

Drew Brees made sure I lose in my first week of fantasy. I am not a happy man today. Anyways, if Colts D can perform like this, it will tough to stop them this year.

Must remember this is just fantasy, not real. You didn't lose in real life, lol.

The Chargers are for real. Colts or Pats may not get the home court Advantage. Pats being an old team I don't see them lasting all through the playoffs.

Akabir bhai fatai falaisey ei week'a. Only lost one game. Sadi we need to pick it up from next week.

Looking forward to the challenge. AKabir bhai lost 2 games actually. Anyways, it can't get any worse than this for Giants. They lost their starting QB, RB and premier pass rusher in season opener.

the Titans rack up a franchise record 282 rush yds against last years 4th ranked run defense (Jaguars). and vince young barely ran for 30 yds.

Titans-Colts will be a humdinger next sunday.

btw, Peyton might well be the best damn QB ever...

Havent watched much of the games so far but definitely gonna be watching this one.

I am getting accused of jumping on the Colts bandwagon when the truth is I started watching NFL last year and first team i liked were the Colts. Only if i could show the posts from last years thread to all those people.

Dunge would never run up the score. That is not his style. He is the Guru of class. But an early turnover by either team may become a rout. In 2004, the colts offense was unstoppable. Yet they scored only 3 points at Foxboro in the playoffs. It is time to return the favor. Lets go colts. control the ground game and you win. This year it may turn out to be a Manning super bowl. Giants and Colts hmmm!!

I will love to see a Manning bowl. TB is playing like a man possessed and will be hard to stop. I expect a high scoring game and lots of touchdown.

November 2, 2007, 11:56 AM
TB for the first time in his carrier has some legit receivers at his disposal. A tightend who can catch. But without a decent Ground game no team can win a superbowl. You know it, I know it everyone knows it. So we wait and see through this season how good a running game they can muster.

Manning didn't have Harrison while TB had his whole offense working for him. Some of the plays would have been different with Harrison there. I like both teams, except I pick Manning over Brady (comes off as too arrogant + lacking in class) when these two face off.

Unfortunately for me, I live in DC and I had to watch Brady at his best last week. He is playing like a man possessed and the Pats should go on undefeated this season.

No running game? Hmm!! The redskin superbowl? Byner and Ervins and combined over 100 rushing yards. On the contrary, Bills could not muster a running game. Thurman Thomas had an aweful outing. Bills total yards were less than 50 yards if I remember correctly. Without the running game one can not win a Superbowl. You can not control the clock. Even "the St. Louis show" had Faulk catching the ball flat or just above the line of scrimmiage and busting the opponents with his runs. I have seen Dallas, 49ers, NE, Pittsburg all team do that. Yes, defense wins championships (in any sports) but to win superbowl one must control the clock which is the running game.

Hoodie is a genius and there is no doubt. His defensive game planning was just too good for the last few years. However, without the aids of video tape we will see how his career goes from here as a coach.

AP is a beast. He is a monster. He will break all rookie records. That is scary.

Nice try. You are partially right. However, in the AFC championship game Colts will beat the hell out of NE (if they make it that far).

NE may get a good beating in the hands of Pittsburg or San Diego in the playoffs.

Yeah yeah, laugh all you want, but if theres anything i take away from that whole spygate thing (which people never seem to let go by the way), its that Belichicks probably the least likely of all the coaches to be video surveilling anyone right now. That 500K fine should stop him from trying anything further. Hes also the least popular, not many people here like him either. But youve got to admit, the mans a genius...

He is not a genius. He got caught stealing. if it was some other country and some other sports he would have been banned for at least some years. no matter how better his team plays he can't deny that he did that... All those super bowl games who know what would have had happen if he didn't had the footage...

uh..until Brady arrived, he was an average coach at best. He sucked at Cleveland. Plus, if you already have opposing D's signals and have it burnt into DVD"s at half time, any good team with good players will benefit from that. They are a very good team and no doubt about it. This chorabusiness has been going on with him for years until he got caught this year. Maybe, it explains, why he was so successful when he meets a team for the second time in that particular year. All of the three superbowl victories have come by a margin of three points? Wonder, what would have happened if he didn't have additional help!

The fact is, he is a thief. NFL says so. They punished him for that. He brought it upon himself and his team. Its not our fault..

Hey, I hate the dude as much as the next guy. The guys a cheat, theres no doubt about that. He did pretty bad in Cleveland. But all that proves is that the Patriots team is alot better than that. Personally, I dont give rats behind about a teams coach. Its the players that matter. And the Patriots players are right up there with the best...

How about Herm Edwards? Is he on the hot seat?

BTW, I was at the game last year in Heinz Field when KC visited. Always a big fan of larry Johnson from the Penn State years. Made it to two games this year vs 49ers and Ravens. Going to my third game of the year Sunday night vs the Bengals - mud bowl II awaits !

No for some reason every one loves him...

I personally don't like him. because of his defensive calls we lost at least 2 games.

We lost 4/5 games by 3 points
We lost two games when we are up in the half time
we lost two games by the same play back to back(Pistburg and denver)
We lost 4 back to back game in KC (last time that happen i wasn't born then)

But people r not that angry on him yet....

Take two francise player (offensive) out of the line up and see how other teams stack up. Be it manning-harrison, Brady-Moss. Heck take out the best guy and see how others do. Ben, Romo, LT, Alexander. Kansas City is doing fine. I like Herm.

Eagles and Ravens aren't exactly world beaters. But, I agree, Steelers hasn't been playing that well recently ( offense in particular ) but the defense has remained steadfast despite not having Polamalu for a few games. Steelers offense suffered due to the unavailability of Santonio Holmes who will be back this week. Troy should be back too.

You can't make any judgement from that Miami game. That field was unfit to even plant your feet.

Your Pats have a problem in the defense. Maybe not this week, but it will catch up with you in playoffs. LBs are old, and a bit soft. You can run on them for sure. Also, I am not sure how prudent it is to not have a running game for Decemeber-January.

We will see come Sunday. We will give you a run for the money. Get ready for some PHYSICAL battle, win or lose...

Sadi,
How would you like D Mac in next years draft for the Jets. Miami already has a QB and Ronnie Brown (running back), New England (TB and Marooney), Jets (no body). The #1 and #2 would be McFadden (Ark) and Brohm (Louisville). May be Jets will move up and get one of those two. Next is Atlanta (Bobby Petreno Louisville ex-coach) would not let Brohm pass.

By the numbers he is bigger and faster than Adrian Peterson and loves to hit people. Now that is scary isn't it?

sadi
December 6, 2007, 10:42 AM
I would love to have him since it will bring so much excitement to a dull Jets game but seeing how Mangini usually drafts, I doubt thats gonna happen. They gave Thomas Jones a 4 year contract for $20 Mil and I don't think they would want to pay D Mac that much to have a two RB attack. My guess is they are probably going to go for a DT or DE. The scary thought is if NE picks D Mac since they have the pick from SF, they will start dropping 50 on every team.

... The scary thought is if NE picks D Mac since they have the pick from SF, they will start dropping 50 on every team.
hmm!! I thought they would move down and get another #1 pick in 2009 or 10.

Anyways, the thing about D Mac that no one mentions is his blocking and catching skills. Any safety blitzing would blitz after a hit. Even after few hits the linebackers tends to shy away from him or tries to tackle him side ways. That is in SEC. I know NFL is different. But not by that much. Back to back SEC running title (1647 yards last year and 1725 and counting - bowl game left)

Stealers garantees a win against NE.

"People keep asking me if we're ready for the Patriots," Smith said. "They should be asking if they're ready for us."

Is Smith so confident that he is willing to copy one of former Pittsburgh linebacker Joey Porter (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/4723/;_ylt=Ar6lHW0lPthbvCdVrwJUr6wdsLYF)'s familiar motivational ploys by guaranteeing the Steelers will win? "We're going to win," Smith said. "Yeah, I can guarantee a win. As long as we come out and do what we got to do. That Anthony Smith is a nutcase. He always gets personal foul, unsportsman like penalty flags. He is a second year player but plays hard and tough. Tomlin was very unhappy and LeBeau yesterday called him a 'dumb' player. He will shut up for a while. He just wants some attention and may have cost his team in the process. Pats don't need any motivation and he gave it to them..

I think it will get really ugly this Sunday. If I were Jets, I would be really nervous.

Well.... if its ugly in one way (i.e score wise) it can be ugly in other ways also (i.e. injury). Jets ahve nothing to loose here and New England has lots to loose here. If they try to run the score to make point, there may few imposed injuries in New England side. Thats the risk New England will take if they try to re-prove a point.

These have been discussed here for a while (after New England vs Washington game).

As for the Pats-Jets game: most boring game in NFL history. Well, not really, but it sure felt that way. Jets played pretty well. Weather helped, but the Pats had the home advantage to begin with. 20-10 wasn't what most people expected the scoreboard to read at the end of the game...

Not so fast...Still a long way off from finishing. Now they've got to take it to the next step. These last few games don't matter one bit if they lose in the playoffs. And that seems all too likely given how our defense played out there today. Like it or not, lets face it, they're old. Our offense saved us today, but the game was way too close for comfort. Lets hope Belichick can work his magic...

You're joking, right? Cmon now, you've got to give credit where it is due. I don't know how closely you follow the NFL, but even people who casually look at the scores on the morning commute will tell you that the Pats had an equally, if not more, challenging schedule to the Colts and Cowboys.

Here are the stats, plain and simple. You like stats, don't you? I've been following that thread of yours...

I've decided to only include matches against the teams that made it to the playoffs to level the playing field...

Dallas: 6 games, NET POINTS = -6:notworthy:
Colts: 7 games, NET POINTS = 34
Pats: 6 games, NET POINTS = 114

**FYI, not that it matters, but if you include the Browns, who were 7th in the league, and therefore higher up than almost half of the playoff teams...The stats become:

Dallas: 6 games, NET POINTS = -6
Colts: 7 games, NET POINTS = 34
Pats: 7 games, NET POINTS = 135...

The Giants just might knock Dallas over next week. Offense looks pretty strong.

Meanwhile, the Redskins, Bucs, Titans and Steelers head home. I'm kinda bummed about the Redskins leaving really. I've got a soft spot for them, originally a Boston team...

Nice stats Farhad. I am impressed.
Check this out: (No stats, just the schedule)

I don't blame Tigers_eye for not liking New England. I doubt anyone outside of New England likes this team. They are too cocky and everyone likes a underdog. It's not the cupcake schedule that makes New England what they are right now. They have been playing these teams all these years and never went 16-0. It is how they played against teams like Colts, Chargers, Dallas or Steelers in the regular season. But the perfect season is still quite far away. Getting a win against Jaguars will be the first step toward it and it will be quite a hard first step I believe.

Thanks Sadi. I use to be a New England fan when Drew Bledsow was there and before. At that time they sucked most of the time. Underdog, yess!! Buffalo was the standard back then with Thurman Thomas and Jim Kelly.

NE has been playing Miami, Buffalo and Jets twice a year for a long time. However, the three team never sucked this bad. Hense the cupcake label. 72 Miami team also had cupcake schedule. I would not deny that fact. But they played quality opponents in the playoffs. That is where the game starts. Let us see what NE does in the remaining games.

(I am literally praying that they don't get D Mac in this years draft) 49s sucks!! That is how NE got that high pick.

Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles "Cupcake" teams? I'm curious, on what basis are you saying that? They're 17th and 18th in the league respectively and just missed the playoffs. Even if I go by your definition of a cupcake team and say that the "cupcake" teams start from 17 down, the Cowboys have 9 games (instead of "6") and the Colts have 7 (instead of "4"). I'm surprised, I expected something more impartial from a stats man such as yourself.

Besides, the entire point of my previous post was to - as I said - "level the playing field". I included only the games against the top sides and surprise, surprise! NE have cumulative NET points almost 4 times that of the Colts, and infinitely times that of the Cowboys (they were in the negative figures). I think that proves enough from my end.

Of course, from experience, Ive learned that very few let argument go in most forums even if they know theyre wrong, so to be brutally honest, I kind of expected a reply...

Add up the wins of the opponents:
NE = 110
Dallas = 127
Colts = 132
divide by 16 you get:
NE - Opponents winning this season 6.87 (CUPCAKE na to ki?)
Dallas - Opponents winning this season 7.93
Indi - Opponents winning this season 8.25

NE - Opponents winning this season 6.87 (CUPCAKE na to ki?)
Dallas - Opponents winning this season 7.93
Indi - Opponents winning this season 8.25

First of all, the correct stats are:

NE:120 (7.5)
Dallas:131 (8.18)
Colts:133 (8.31)

I was surprised when I read your post as all clues pointed otherwise, but then I realised there are two reasons that method of ranking wont work out. If there are any extremes, it throws off the result by a large margin. For example, both Dallas and Indianapolis played New England but New England obviously didnt get to play with themselves. So even though they both lost to New England, they both come off of huge point boosts (16 each) which New England are denied. On the other end of the extreme, Miami is below all others by a huge margin and New England played them twice, won both times, yet still got just one point each time! (Colts didnt even play the Dolphins while Cowboys played once). You cant say the Pats had a cupcake schedule just because they had two games against an extremely weak side. As a matter of fact, if you take that one extreme out of the question, the results are as follows.

NE: 14 games at 8.4
Colts: 16 games at 8.31
Dallas: 15 games at 8.66

This of course, doesnt prove anything as Ive taken out a team thereby "spoiling" the stats, but it works to show the difference just one weak team makes to the equation. This ranking method is just too simple and it takes a lot of factors out of the equation. I suppose there is a way to utilize "games won by opposition", but that can only be done through a complicated process and this definitely isnt one of them...

The only SIMPLE solution to rank these teams to each other would be to compare the NET points against teams all three of them have played against. Otherwise, a much more complicated process is required...

I understand Farhad what you are saying. But do not agree of taking out Miami or NE out. The disagreement was over easier (cupcake) schedule that NE had.

NE had 4 games with 4 or less wins opponents. 2 games over 11 and 11+ teams.
Indi had 3 games with 4 or less wins opponents. 4 games over 11 and 11+ teams.
Dallas had 2 games with 4 or less wins opponents. 2 games over 11 and 11+ teams.

Who had the easier path?

Again, whats happening is that you're only taking the extremes. What about the 20 teams in the middle? This is exactly the same as your last statistic. Actually, this one takes extremes into account even MORE than the previous one...

Btw, I completely agree that taking any of the extremes (NE or Miami) out of the picture would "spoil" the statistic as I said earlier. I only used that to show the difference just one of these extremes would make to the overall equation...

Everytime a team achieves a certain level of greatness, there'll always be people that root against them. The same thing happened with the '72 Dolphins and heck, the same thing is happening now with the Aussies in cricket. Of course, the Aussies deserve it because they act like such [use your imagination here] all the time, so its not that similar. The Pats have shown nothing but sportsmanship all season long. Sure, theyve run up the score in a few games, but would you rather have them go easy on teams? They, like all other sports teams, are being paid for entertainment and thats exactly what theyre doing. Cant knock em for that...

You seriously don't see any similarities between the Pats and the Aussies? They are both cocky. It will be really sweet if they lose in the Superbowl. The whole unbeaten drama will be worthless. I can't wait.

Cocky? How?? Maybe Belichick a little bit, but the actual team has been pretty grounded considering the circumstances. Believe me, Ive watched them a lot more than any of you guys have. Theyre on the local news all the time. They havent mouthed off like some of the other teams even though theyve earned the right to. There are no Anthony Smiths in this team, Ill tell you that...

Being in VA, I'm a Skins fan. I was a Cowboys supporter when I was in Texas, except, I didn't really care for football at the time.

Aside from those two, I like the Colts and thought Favre had a good shot this year. Brady and the Pats are amazing and I was happy to see them win couple years back. However, this year, the arrogance and the cheating made it all sour and even though they are going to win, I'm going to stick with Manning (since Payton didn't make it, Eli will have to do). I dislike the Pats so much this year that I've forgotten how much I dislike Giants. :)

As for Farhad's underdog comment. Tell me about it. In cricket, I am behind our hopeless tiger cubs. In football, I support the team that does everything to ensure a loss and has an idiot (some say genius) for an owner. Atleast I have Brazil to give me some solace in soccer. :)

Few things:

1. Burress didn't gurantee a win. He predicted a win for Giants. When the reporters asked him, what is he supposed to say?

2. America predicted Patriots is gonna win. That doesn't mean they are supporting them. Most of the America will support Giants on sunday but I don't think it will make a big difference.

Go Giants!!!

All the BIG talk and Bak Bakum and Hoopla witl end by the end of Sunday. One group will have to eat the humble pie, and the other group will gloat and say "See I said so". But in the middle, people forget that the game is played in the field and who ever plays better in that particular day ends up winning the game.... and its not over unless the game is over.

Thats why, when I want to enjoy the game to its fullest, ususally I prefer to watch it in TV alone..... not in the stadium (as if I could effort even if I wanted)... not in a sports bar ..... not even with friends.... because you may have a great time with the croud (for other reasons)..... but not necessarily you can really watch the game to its fullest.

btw.... you need to have a DVR...High Definition Big screen TV.. or a projector...and surround sound... its a must.

What was he supposed to say? He was supposed to say "lets wait until game day" like Brady says every time someone asks him that question (which is before every freakin game). Even their coach, who i respect very much btw, says Plaxicos - lets call it "prediction" - was out of line...23-17? :D We'll see...

Well you are missing the point. What's the difference between predicting 23-17 or 45-42? He is still predicting a Giants win. Ofcourse, Patriots will score a lot more points than 17 but he is just showing confidence on his teammates. On the other hand, media doesn't have anything better to do and will talk about it the whole day. 2 weeks is a little too long for media to stay quiet, don't you think?

Who said there was anything wrong with him predicting 23-17? I think youve been reading too much from the media. Theyre the ones who're making a big deal about the score and Bradys reply with titles like "Brady mocks Plaxico's guarantee" because it fits in with that whole perception of the Pats being cocky. All Im saying is he shouldnt have guaranteed a win at all. And yes, it was a guarantee. He said we're bringing back the trophy to New York. Sure sounds like a guarantee to me. Confidence is good. Overconfidence - not so much...

Never mind. There is no point going back and forth on this issue. Patriots would love to think its a gurantee. Dont you think that tactic is a bit childish? :) No hard feelings buddy. Us Pats fans are just having our fun. The whole point of celebrating when your team comes this far is getting the chance to trash talk the losers...And btw, youre still not getting my point. As Ive said already, even if it was a prediction, its not how players over here in the US are supposed to handle themselves. Players dont make predictions here. Havent you ever seen these questions answered before? Its almost rhetoric in a sense. No matter how bad the other team is, the players are supposed to play it cool. Things arent the same here as in the cricketing world...

I knew somebody would bring this up and forget to mention a tiny little detail: its just hearsay at this point. "The cheaters got caught" seems pretty definite, dont you think? Think about it, whats the motive for this guy to come out right now at this particular time just before the Superbowl? He wants attention. Life is SWEET. This was the first time I supported the Giants and I gotta thank Belichick the Douche and his QB (the choker) for a great result. Eli winning was almost as sweet as Payton winning and NYG deserved to win.

There were several key plays, the one that struck me the most when the douche pump (Brady) went for 4th down when a field goal was possible. NYG defense looked tired by the end of the fourth quarter (giving away the temp lead to Pats). If Pat opted for the field goal instead of going for fourth down, the match would have drawn and gone into extra time and things could have been different. However, over confidence/Pride ruined that chance. Perfect end to the Super Bowl.

....

LOSER: Bill Belichick
His third-quarter decision to go for it on fourth-and-13 rather than kick a 49-yard field goal will be analyzed forever. His kicker, Stephen Gostkowski, was at the end but certainly within his range. A successful kick would have made the game 10-3 and, eventually, 17-17.
Even if he missed, the field position loss wasn't that bad (Giants' 31-yard line). Fourth-and-13 is about as low percentage as it gets, and for Belichick to make such a confused tactical decision seemed to help build confidence in the Giants.
........

WINNER: Plaxico Burress
Not so much for his winning TD catch – he was all alone and should have made it – but his prediction of 23-17. It was an overblown story, but it is worth noting Brady's reaction.
"We're only going to score 17 points?" Brady said with a laugh. "OK. Is Plax playing defense?"
Turns out New England wished it could have scored 17.
.......
LOSER: Tom Brady
The guy was harassed all night and did deliver a late-game touchdown drive, but his body language and facial expressions throughout were anything but his old cool self. When the going got really tough in this game (aside from the aforementioned series), he couldn't find a way to make this offense move the football. For someone who always had been so great in the most tense of moments, this was an unexpected stumble
