Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Twenty20 cricket is that in such a shortened format, no team can be taken for granted. The Australians were at the receiving end of one of the biggest upsets in this decade, going down to Zimbabwe in Cape Town, and it's the element of surprise people will look forward to when they take guard against Bangladesh in the first part of the double-header at Newlands.
The manner in which Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Ashraful detonated West Indies in Johannesburg and nearly took the South Africans to the cleaners has proved that they are no pushovers against the best. The defeat against South Africa will force them to rethink their batting strategy. Australia overcame their rustiness with a crushing eight-wicket win against England and that could well be a sneak preview for what is yet to come.
Bat play : High-adrenalin willow-bashing gets the crowds pouring in, and in that department, Bangladesh have not disappointed. Ashraful and Aftab knocked West Indies out of the tournament with fearless hitting, and the crowds gasped at the way Aftab threw his bat at everything in Cape Town. One would have to wonder what would have been had the batsmen tempered their aggression after the initial blitz. Nazimuddin's twin failures at the top could leave an opening for fellow newcomers like Junaid Siddique.
The results of Ricky Ponting's talk of not respecting the game enough after the Zimbabwe debacle reflected in the way Australia chased down England's modest target of 136 with over five overs to spare. The openers, Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist have fired and the middle order will be waiting to have a go.

We can only hope and pray that Eid comes again. As usual, we must come to the grips that we have to expect the unexpected from this team. they are not dependable. They have live up to their name as young and reckless and they aptly demonstrated that today. They entertained the crowd, used no cricket smarts and only ended up embarrassing themselves by proving their critics right.
I think that Ashraful achieved his objective by advancing to the super 8 stage and now all he wants to do is to play practice matches and lose them. I dont think that they love to win, they are so used to losing, that it has become a habit.
SA was a team to beat, now they are going to play against the best teams, and they all want to win. i have seen the old Australia playing England and they won it by reverting to being terminators. Sri Lanka is also a deadly combination.
They were beaten very badly by these teams in the world cup. did anyone see the match between India and Pakistan- good bowling and fielding sides.

Now,let's think what other teams can Bangladesh beat? Maybe New Zealand, or England.

Good luck boys. I am not expecting anything but a good fight. AUS is tough opposition. If we can keep our wickets and play sensibly i.e. not going for every ball then we could put a big total if we bat first or chase the target comfortably without exerting too much pressure on ourselves. We have to win at least two matches to qulify for the semi. It's a monumental task but not impossible. Whatever happens we will still be proud of you guys. Grrrrr!!

If batting first, need to score 180 at least. If Tamim and Naz clicks its more than possible. Need to play first 6 overs "sensibly" while trying to score 50 and not losing more than one opener. Simple. This will be a perfect launching pad for AA(A) to come to their own!

Don't want to see any ugly swipes from Tamim, at least, not in the first three overs. Stay on the crease (no need to make room) with head still, watch the ball onto bat and play as straight as possible in the V area...runs will come. There is a place for proper cricket even in twenty20! Couple of Fours or a Four and a few singles each over would do it nicely. Of course, if there come a juicy half-volly or on the pads- no harm in going for the max! Achive this little target and you have a license to do as you please. Simple approach...

If chasing, the same applies.:)

All the best to Naz and Tamim and Co.

Today I was really very happy when Nasser Hossain said these two batsmen (Ashraful and Aftab) are the best two batsmen of Asia in Twenty20 cricket.

They just need a bit restraint in shot making and they are able to lift us to the semi-final.

Tamim was consistent with his dodgy sweep or whatever it was, as if he doesn't really wanna be there.. twice in a row he got out this way. Please Tamim take it seriously for once!

Where is Nazimuddin??? I thought he is our new star who will stun the world, I even had him on my fantasy cricket league ( now losing all my points coz of him). Well whatever it is, hope he can come back tomorrow.

Kapali well I hope the reason today for scoring 13 off 34 balls was because we lost almost all the wickets and he was making sure we can stay at least for 20 overs.

Well all the best for tomorrow.

Yes, I heard that too! Absolutely love Nasser... With Tendulkar, Dravid, Yousuf, Inzi retiring within a year or two, Ash is the natural heir to these great batsmen. Insha-allah, Ash will be more consistent day by day. Lets not forget he is still very young and already have quite a few reccords under his belt, despite, playing for a country which isn't quite established yet in cricketing terms.

Aftab would be a perfect foil for Ash in all forms of cricket. Although, Aftab needs to improve his game when playing the spinners. He has definitely improved in this area and only can better.

I just hope our batsmen learn to draw the line between being aggressive and being stupid. As Andrew McGlashan wrote in a Cricinfo article -
"There has never been any doubting their ability to play shots, but even in Twenty20 there is a judgment call to be made. Mohammad Ashraful opened his innings with a majestic first-ball six over square leg then scooped his next delivery over short fine leg. Ten in two balls is plenty, but the adrenalin was coursing through Ashraful's veins and he couldn't stop, miscuing his third ball to Graeme Smith at mid-on. "
That is the point. We just have to know when to put the brakes on and when to move into 3rd/4th gear.
Anyway, hp today turns out to be among our world conquering days. Go, BD.

its a very very tough group. I thought the other group is way too easy with India England and NZ. I mean if BD went to that group, there were a fairer chance to progress to semis. From this group I dont see much hope. Cause We will not be able to defeat SL. Thats impossible. Australia and Pakistan are the other two teams. But both are very very tough call.

The format of this tournament is faulty. There is absolutely no need to keep the ranking based order, and not placing the group champs as 1. Especially as the second round combined 1 and 2 alternatively.

I just wish Junaid is given a chance in place of Alok. His strike rate is so low, not suitable for 20/20 game. In 4 matched he played, he hit six only once and boundaries only 4 times. With SA game, he played more than one quater balls total bowled and scored miserly 14!!! simply pathetic...

just waiting for the game to start. Praying and hoping that my favourite team does well inshallah. After their performance yesterday, very disheartened that they will lose their way again. Hopefully, Ashraful has a better plan, and he himself play a good innings. I dont know if we will see him from now on playing a couple of shots and getting out quickly. Aftab needs to curb himself too. They should remember that they are now playing 3 good teams who have beaten them recently and who knows their weaknesses and capitalize on them very quickly. If they dont perform well, will find themselves back on the flight home by the end of the week.
I also hope that Ashraful does not have the mindset that all he wanted was to progress to the super 8 round and if they lose the other matches, it does not matter, just a matter of good cricket practise. They were lucky that South Africa was a bit soft on them. Aust.& SL do not operate like them, they go all out for the kill at an early stage, and does not give the opposition time to breathe.
We just have to hold our breath and pray for them.

its a very very tough group.

I definitely agree with you, they find themselves in a very very tough group here and the only way they can beat one of these teams is if they play smart cricket with their heads and not with adrenalin coursing through their veins.

Their only hope is trying to beat Pakistan, they cannot defeat the other two terminators, but they can certainly give it a good try., and come out respectably.

The mantra, once more:

Revised target: 175-180 would be a good score.

No, he does both. That's the problem! He gives himself too much room.

Spot on, it's always his fault ... preseving your wicket is a cardinal sin ...

16-0 after 3 ... we should be 36-4 by now ...

I blame Alok for this ... he must have used some of that Khasia ju-ju to make these darlings play like him ...

Haha. If it only it were that easy. The Australian are bowling pretty well at the moment so it is tough for our batsmen.

Australian bowlers are producing raging bouncers which Nazim and Tamim are finding it difficult to defend. Despite that, the duo are doing brilliant.

That was a good shot from Tamim. That's the way to do it. Work the ball around and hit them down the ground.

Tamim has 2 modes: -

1) Crackhead mode
2) Junkie mode

What a one hit wonder ... again, must be Alok's fault !
