Its like repeating WC07. we moved to 2nd round defeating India there, here also WI. Now time to repeat the win againt the strong opponent like SA, so I guess it will be SL today (definetely SL stronger than Pak). Way to go BD.

Jayawardene said Bangladesh would not pose as much of a challenge as Pakistan.

"Pakistan is always a good side, it has some brilliant individuals. But the Pakistan bowling is altogether different to Bangladesh's, it is very skilled," he said.

He also said, he would prefer chasing against us if he wins the toss.

This is what I wanna see and I'm sure we will instead of Murali it'll be some helpless lankan bowler

50.2 Muralitharan to Mohammad Ashraful, FOUR, tossed up and turning in, Ashraful gets well forward to the pitch of the delivery and drives it through the gap between the cover fielders, excellent shot to bring up his half-century, crowd loves it!

50.5 Muralitharan to Mohammad Ashraful, FOUR, reverse sweep makes perfect contact and the ball races away to the third man fence, cheeky but effective

51.4 Bandara to Mohammad Ashraful, SIX, take that! flighted delivery on the stumps, Ashraful comes down the track, makes room and thulps it over the long-on fence, clean hit

56.6 Fernando to Mohammad Ashraful, SIX, width offered outside the off stump and Ashraful comes down hard on it, ball sails over the backward point fence - excellent shot!

66.1 Malinga to Mohammad Ashraful, FOUR, starts off with a low fulltoss down the leg side, Ashraful gets well inside the line and flicks it away to the fine leg fence and the boundary takes him to 97!

68.6 Malinga to Mohammad Ashraful, FOUR, there it is! 3rd Test hundred! short ball on the stumps, Ashraful rocks back and nicely pulls it away to the vacant square leg fence - brilliant shot and the crowd erupts

<table bgcolor="#eeeeee" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="446"><tbody><tr valign="top"><td align="right" width="30">72.4</td> <td width="100%">Bandara to Mohammad Ashraful, FOUR, tossed up delivery on the middle and leg stump line, Ashraful gets well forward and lofts it away to the midwicket fence </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td align="right" width="30">72.5</td> <td width="100%">Bandara to Mohammad Ashraful, SIX, another flighted delivery, Ashraful goes for the slog sweep and gets it on the middle, ball sails over the midwicket fence </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td align="right" width="30">72.6</td> <td width="100%">Bandara to Mohammad Ashraful, FOUR, Bandara being taken apart here! low fulltoss and that's swpet away to the fine leg fence, easy runs</td></tr></tbody></table>

Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, Group F, Johannesburg

Jayawardene prefers to chase against Bangladesh

Cricinfo staff

September 18, 2007

Despite Mahela Jayawardene's 28 off 27 balls Sri Lanka lost to Pakistan thanks to quick wickets by Shahid Afridi © Getty Images

Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lanka captain, has said that despite losing to Pakistan, chasing 190, his side would prefer to bat second against Bangladesh.

On winning the toss against Pakistan, Jayawardene chose to field thinking the dew factor would favour the side chasing. "We thought it would be quite easy to chase because it would be hard for the spinners to grip the ball [later in the day]," Jayawardene said at the post-match press conference.

"Even though we lost those early wickets we managed to get up to the required run-rate quite quickly but Shahid Afridi bowled very well and he took wickets in the middle." Afridi took 3 for 18, including Jayawardene's wicket for 28.

Jayawardene said Bangladesh would not pose as much of a challenge as Pakistan.

"Pakistan is always a good side, it has some brilliant individuals. But the Pakistan bowling is altogether different to Bangladesh's, it is very skilled," he said.

Sri Lanka made a positive start to the game when they reduced Pakistan to 33 for 3 in the first six overs. But then they were unable to break a 101-run partnership between Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik which got Pakistan to a competitive total.

The two Group F matches will be played at the Wanderers today. Pakistan will face Australia, after which Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh.

Funny... I wish I had all the 4z and sixes australia had against u guyz .. ahahaha.. Look buddy theres always someone better than you.. So don't underestimate us.. Sri Lanka been around the spotlight long enuff to be called one of the top team and I think they are.. Bangladesh haven't gotten the opportunities yet.. corruption and politics ruined us.. But believe me when I tell u this.. Raw talent exist in BD far more than what ur Sri Lanka can produce.. We just need to spend time to train them properly ..then we see what team comes out in the top. But regardless of what I say.. Sri Lanka is one of the top team and they deserve every bit of it.. they worked hard for it.. and i got nothing against them . So good luck to both team. Just don't make fun of my team.. :D

Good luck to our lads. May Allah bless them and let's hope we have some good cricket.
Whether BD wins or loses, my heart will always belong to them, especially Ash and Mushy. I hope after this game, if a loss occurs, no harsh criticisms please.
England just lost t's second game to NZ. What a finish.

Hoping to see the Pakistanis beat the Aussies.Pls bear in mind that BD is pitted against teams, who are years and years ahead of them in their cricket, especially WI, SA, OZ,PAK and SL. these are 5 very strong teams playing world class cricket and they are still trying to hold their own against them. This is marvellous experience for this very young team, they still look like schoolboys and it takes guts to face these intimidating opponents, and hopefully, they will benefit, so let's cheer our young lads.

one thing really hurts me that about team selection, in most of the cases all bd fans give more or less same opinion, when the team management thinks just in the reverse direction and i see it from the time i started to like cricket(early 90s)
however, i think that tamim has been read by other teams thoroughly and he has no chance in near future to click. so he should be replaced immediately.
junaid should be taken in his place in the match against srilanka.

Wanted to share some of my thoughts on our batting.I think we are still struggling to come up with a batting strategy for 20/20. From this tournament its pretty clear that there is after all some method to the madness. I am just hoping that we have some cohesive plan before coming in to bat. As usual, the first 6 overs would be crucial. We have to target around 50 runs while the restrictions last. Then we can go along at 6-7 an over till the 15th and holding on to our wickets. The last 5 overs can hopefully produce some carnage. A 150+ score is very much a possibility for us, if we bat as a team...

Bangladesh batting will be key for us...Our top order need to stay atleast 5 overs but scoring some runs also otherwise we will be doomed again today and w Pak. Based on the team selection, it seems we won't be able to avoid it and another loss is inevitable with this batting line up.

We do not need to go out blazing nor do we need to score like turtles. What we need to do is take calculated risks and build partnerships. Even in this small version of the game partnerships are really important.

My gut feeling: another thrashing? I hope not!

I really hope Bangladesh Can Beat SriLanka, but the fact of the matter is, Sri Lanka is extremely good and bangladesh can only win one maybe 2 matches a year if they are lucky. I hope that trend changes today, and we go on to beat SRI and PAK, and AUS.

agree..perfert example today's partnership of Misbah and Malik.
Our Ash and Aftab can change the game. But SL already know their weaknesses.

Damn those Pakistanis are going strong... They got one thing in mind now the Final... As they are already qualified for Semi... Freaking Australi or Sri Lanka are most likely gonna be the other team making it to Semi...as BD's chance is small to nothing... I still hope they play fearless and do good. This time around, we can't even rely on our bowlers.. cuz they not really doing much for the team.

well if our top order actually put up a good total.. the bowlers wud be able to defend it..the game agianst Aussie. we scored 123...that's not a defendable total..specially against the best team in the world..we lost the match rightt there..

September 18, 2007, 10:28 AM
One scenario:
even we score 40 in 5 over losing two wkts...we have to stop the collapse...
80 in 10 overs...losing two more wickets and we have to score 80 more runs in last 10 overs with 6 more wickets.

Scenario 2:

Have a dream start 45 for 1 wkt in 4.5 overs...85 for 4 wkts in 12 overs...100 in 8 overs with another dream finish up.

Scenario 3:

22 runs in 4 overs loosing three wickets..big partnership of 5 th and 6 the wicket taking the run to 123 and then a mini collapse. Over is 14.4. Rest 5 overs 30 runs all out totaling score range 144-154.

Bro despite our total... our bowlers coudln't take a single wicket during Australia game.. They only had one wicket from RunOut.. Thats pathetic. Mashrafe played three games so far and haven't had one wicket under his belt and his bowling degraded and so did his batting.. Now for our batsmen.... except for Aftab and Ashraf .. we have no one who can realy score in 20/20 format.. Sakib did show a little it talent.. but cudn't last long. Tamim to me...looks like a good for nothing batsman. HE has no talent ..just simply blind shots... he goes for anything and he doesn't calcute his shots.. Nazim is still a rookie and he prooved he can have the team in his shoulder during Kenya and Pakistan game.. Now if he can click and then Aftab and Ashraf... we might get ourselves a hefty total.. but then it all comes down to our bowlers ..can they restrict the SL bashing. I hope they do.. after what Jawardene feels bout our boyz are not skilled enuff for him.. (true, but it stings when an opponent points it out) So BD needs to really concentrate on what Mahela said and get out there and be a diff team than what Sri Lanka is expecting. :shh:

After being entertained by the Bangladeshi side in their first match, the expectations from them soared. They did entertain us again against South Africa, though for a short time and the defeat at their hands was not disappointing either. But when they came out with a completely different frame of mind against the Aussies, it was really disappointing. They looked to be completely out of sorts and it looked like as if somebody had suddenly told them not to go for the shots. The result was worse than that against the Proteas. I hope that they have learnt a lesson from that and now will not curb their natural instincts at least in this format of the game.

Bangladesh were subdued - perhaps, they were making amends for their over-the-top aggression against South Africa- against Australia and succumbed meekly. And, of course, Australia bowled to a plan. They repeatedly hit the short-of-length and didn't allow the batsmen to drive. We have to wait and see how Bangladesh go here.

Mashrafe Mortaza to Sangakkara, FOUR, fuller, on the middle and leg, allows Sangakkara to thrust his front foot forward and pick it up over wide midwicket.

Mashrafee is totally out of sort after the dream worldcup IND match.

Rasel to Tharanga, out Caught by Rahim!! well outside off and Tharanga goes after it trying to heave it over mid on, gets the bottom edge, keeper Rahim fumbles and as he jumps the ball sticks into the gap between his knee caps! Tharanga c Rahim b Rasel 23(15) [4s-3]
