View Full Version : Last Appeal!

This is my last appeal to the selectors (I know this is pointless) to include a sixth batsman in the First Test squad. I don't know what is going on in their heads for them to think Mushfiq should play Test cricket. I have no idea what he has done to deserve a place. We can't just take someone because they bat and bowl. I bat and bowl, they might as well take me!
We need a batsman at number 6! Since all the youngsters are off to Pakistan, try Tushar! And if they don't want to have another batsman, then Mashud and Mahmud should move up so we make room for an extra bowler, perhaps a second spinner who can take wickets. But to have Mushfiq bat at 6, and have a pace attack of Masri, Mahmud and Mushfiq will be disastrous. England will score 500 and we will be all out for 180!

And I second Sham.

Yesterday’s display was a good example why we need a specialist batsman at six.
After Nazimuddin there was none! We could have passed that ‘psychological’ 300 easily if there were someone to company Nasif, like Rajin, after Nazimuddin.
Definitely this is the best selection team we have in recent times. But hope they don’t get carried away with Mushfiq’s relative resilience in one day against some weaker bowling attacks in Pakistan.
If we feel the need of a genuine batsman at six, why he is not thinking of it. What kind of test material did he see in Mushfiq that we missed all these years? Or is it that he feels responsibility will make Mushfiq a success?
Tushar is a very good option despite his awful test record. Also, I read Moniruzzaman is fit now.

Dav actually hadn't had much exposure to what's out there. He probably thought Mushfiq was as good as it gets as he did not know about the prospects among the junior players. Hopefully, the two matches gave him enough to think about and i just hope that I am right on this one.

he could have asked me about mushfiq and I would have saved him the trouble. ;)

BUt he would think, you being rafique, would want a partner for this match so you don't have to spin alone.
Faruque, Athar, and Prince should have taken care of this.

Bangladesh 'A' team has an Arafat Sunny, and a Mosaddek Hossain as their number 8 and number 9 batsman - (who might be not as good bowlers) so taht is why BD 'A' could manage a total of 242, but we don't have such good tail enders playing for Bangladesh national team (although they are way better bowlers than Arafat and Mosaddek - by experience, anyway), so I also think that we need a specialist number 6 batsman.
But if we fail at that, a second spinner can do, but along with the possibility of going all out for less than 200 when we could have crossed the 300 run mark with a 6th specialist batsman in the side.

Last report, the think tank of BD team is leaning toward playing Mushfiq at position 6. And they are confused between Taposh and Enamul. One of these 2 will sit with Aftab.

say it isn't so...what's your source?

Yeah, I have a feeling that they will play Mushfiq after all. Anyway, if they do end up taking him, then we better hope that he proves all of us wrong and scores a lot of runs and takes a lot of wickets. If he plays, he better prove me wrong or I'm gonna kill him and the selectors.

Actually when I give it a thought, it seems that Sujon is the main reason of Aftab’s probable exclusion. If they want to play two spinners they can’t take another specialist batsman as then the new ball will go to Masri and Sujon. Musfiq is (or was, don’t know now) actually 10-15km/hr faster than Sujon. He has more chance to get the best out of the new ball. So it’s better to open with Mushfiq then with Sujon. Sujon is such a problem, we neither can spit him out nor can swallow. He should show some courage to declare his retirement from the test. He is destroying our balance.

Yes, Mahmud is the problem. The thing is, you can't pick both Mahmud and Mushfiq, because that weakens the batting and the bowling. But we will end up having to pick both.
If they want to play two spinners, Aftab will have to sit out. There is no way to get around that. I just wish that Mahmud would promote himself up to number six, and play a second frontline seamer (Tapash) with Masri than to have Masri, Mushfiq and Sujon as the seamers. If the game against BD A is any indication, our seamers do have a job to do. Sure, the batting would be weakened a little perhaps, but if Sujon is gonna be in the team, he has to stand up and be counted.
