I have a question, I see so many of these online petitions everywhere. Have you ever encountered one that actually worked?

Great effor Irteja.
But one little point i needed to raise.

You mentioned, "ten million people killed"... where as far as i know it is 3 million.

we always say, " thrish lokkho shohid er roktor binimoye"....
i've never heard "ek koti shohid"...

im signing the petition regardless, cuz i want those bastards to pay the price.

But is there any way you could fix those little errors.

Thanks.

Im actually confused about that. Some organizations put it lower, and some put it at that mark. I think Pakistan officials put it at around 25000-30000 (which is almost definitely way off, so we can disregard that). Most international reference books put it at around 300,000 - 3,000,000. And some go even further to say that the figure of three million was brought up only because of comments made by Yahya Khan who said "Kill three million of them, and the rest will eat out of our hands". Shouldnt there have been a more exhaustive census at the time?

Anyone who can help me out?

There are a lot of gonokobors which have still not been found. So, unfortunately, we will never know.

We'll never know how many died...some laugh at the 30 lakh number, and some feel that refusing to accept that number is like acting like a rajakar. Personally, I don't think that any of these numbers are believable. I haven't witnessed the war myself, and nobody has taken the initiative to actually find a number that's authoritative and factual. I do know, however, that it's not 30k.

Thanks Irteja. Signed.

Hey Irteja, you should consider opening a facebook group with this theme (using the same letter)... I think this holds a much stronger appeal compared to a online petition because most facebook members are real people and they only have one facebook account. Whereas the problem with the petition sites is that most people have multiple email addresses, so duplication of signatures are very common. Also, facebook groups are getting a lot of media coverage these days.

Rabz brother, thanks a lot. we corrected the information.

about the victim number there is lots of confusion going on. Hamidur Rahman Commission an official Pakistan Government investigation, put the figure as low as 26,000 civilian casualties. now is this absolutely impossible.

Immediately after the War of Liberation, number of people killed was estimated to be as high as three million. Ref. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971_Bangladesh_atrocities#_note-MathewWhite) .unfortunately we never know how many people were killed. the number of victims in a genocide cannot be counted.

পণ্ডিত ভাই, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
সেটা হল ACT NO XIX OF 1973 ।
<o:p></o:p>

It might have been motivated for a different cause. But I think they didn't get the expected outcome. But either way, they shouldn't have just let them go for free, without any means of making these fools realize that what they've done is the perfect example of betrayal.

We should be ashamed of ourselves.

I've sent an email to all my family/friends/colleagues letting them know about this petition. If you're interested, you can just use the following.

Hello everyone,

A friend of mine has taken the initiative to create this petition for bringing the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War criminals to justice. After reading several blood-boiling messages from a distinct political group in Bangladesh, it is simply unacceptable that these war criminals are roaming around freely in our beloved nation.

I would urge that you participate by signing the petition.

Link to the petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/1971war/petition.html

If you are interested, please also follow the following links to find a wealth of information and documentary evidencte of the genocide and the '71 war.

Thank you.

unfotunately yes......

Between ourselves, there is always some chance that the figure may be bit less than 30 lakh. Also, there were atrocities commited against Urdu speakers, albeit on a much smaller case. Some Bangladeshis try to justify all actions commited against Urdu speakers by calling it revenge.

Hopefully action will be taken against rajakars, but only rajakars in true sense of the word, and not some one who is "rajakar" for not being an Awami league member
