View Full Version : Article: Bangladesh loom as big threat now

Not really an encouraging article, made me chuckle a few times , looks like theres gonna be Green Tops and New Zealand isn't gonna be complacent but the question i have to ask has New Zealand fell off that much? I mean I saw Stern that guy was making the ball to crazy things.
But again Rasel + Rajib + Masri should be formidable and I know Ash is gonna have his eye locked in( New year 2 More Eids) ya never know... we could really get the monkey off our back.
Look on the bright side, so incompetent are New Zealand at the moment that the home test cricket series against Bangladesh in January is now shaping as a close contest.
Forget a trip to the beach or the Tauherenikau races the only place to be between January 12-16 will be the Basin Reserve when New Zealand fight to stay on the test cricket map against Bangladesh.
Heaven forbid if the head groundsmen at Hamilton (first) or the Basin Reserve fail to produce the greentops that New Zealand so desperately need, leaving the Black Caps in a war of attrition on a couple of bunsen burners against Mohammad Rafique and Enamul Haque junior.
About the only ones smiling today will be the guys in the funny ties in New Zealand Cricket's marketing department, who were previously at their wits end to find support for the series, now have the cricket world watching on with interest for the title as the most useless test side on the planet.
If losing the first test to South Africa by a record runs margin was not enough New Zealand raised the white flag when losing the second test at Centurion inside three days yesterday by an innings and 59 runs.
New Zealand were bowled out for 136, with only three batsmen reaching double figures - Stephen Fleming 54, Scott Styris 29 and Brendon McCullum 21.
Forget injuries, a couple of dodgy umpiring decisions and a piece of hare-brained cricket by Ross Taylor, probably the most alarming aspect of the test debacle at Centurion was tactical naievety with the ball.
Having spent the second afternoon bowling short they returned after the break with the exact opposite plan suggesting one of the computer geeks had got in the ear of Daniel Vettori and advised a change of plan.

Well,, even if NZ is in bad shape now, I dont think we have proven to be any better than them where we can be a threat,, Yes, there are chances where we couldve asked for a draw but the pace/bounce that the pitch will produce, the impatience of Ashfaful/Aftab doesnt convince me that we really can hold it up for a draw. Hence, yeah,, Mashrafee/Shahadat/Sajid now have a perfect chance for ODIs which we are no doubt a stronger side but for Test series,,,,its gonna be 3.5 days affair for each side.

Looks like the recent Test debacle of New Zealand has made the situation even worse for Bangladesh.

The Kiwis will play the Aussies very soon, not test matches, but 20/20 and ODIs. I am confident that they will bounce back. Australian wickets are not as bouncy as SA wickets, so this should help their cause.
The way the BD batsmen play, we cannot depend on anyone in this team, one has to expect the unexpected with this team. Anyhow, there is hope with a new coach. I am still hoping that BD take the game into the 5th day and do not lose by an innings.
I think if they keep their brains and cool, they can win at least 1 ODI.

I don't know bro. The way I look at it, the same players who score 20 and 30 with other teams will score 150 and more with us in test cricket. Somehow the equation always changes when we are at the game! One reason is that loosing to us is like "becoming the worst test side" as they say in the article you just quoted. So the opposition play with a different mental set. Also, they are more confident in general. On the other hand, our players don't have the confidence in test cricket yet either. All in all, its very difficult to judge, even if they are at a temporary dip.
...The ODI however, I personally do expect to see a few things... if the rite players play that is (and ofcourse this is not the place to discuss who the rite players are... haha funny to see that people in our forum itself have a very wide variety of choices. ... I wonder which side the selectors minds will fall into...)

They are underestimating us and they are really cracked down by Africans. and i think they are mentally little bit weak and they are gonna dying to give a big punch to us. i say let them think about us that we are worst. remember, when we 1st went to Australia, they were saying that we were gonna loose in one day but we put a great show i think. at least after seeing SL against them. let them think worst. think positively. it's a green pitch. if they are gonna have advances, we are gonna too. ovbiously they are gonna play on their own ground. but whatever i think we are gonna have some good result. i am only having fear about Jacob Oram. he could do a great damage and Sinclair is on again. so he is gonna try to prove him as well. so i want to take a focus on these 2 and also Fleming, this guy did better than others against SA. you guys know one thing that i am thinking and that is, BD bowlers should practice on the green field, not on the pitch. specially bowling practice. cause we don't have any green top pitch. at last i wanna say that whatever you guys gonna think i am gonna think about winning in all games. i know this is kinda dream. but if we expect for more at least we are gonna get some but if we wanna get 1 or 2 then we won't get anything. so wish for ALL.

I am really getting worried now. Each time a team is in bad form, they get their moral high by superb performance against Bangladesh.

I see one of two things happening in NZ:
1) We win a couple of ODI's and test sessions
2) We get our pachas handed to us

if our superstars (i.e ashraful and aftab) don't put their 100% concentration in the series and play positive cricket, then NZ will beat us like South Africa beat them. maybe even worse.
And by positive cricket it means PLAY EACH BALL ON ITS MERIT REGARDLESS OF THE PREVIOUS DELIVERIES. this doesn't mean attack just cuz its a bowler who suits you or block all balls just to stay at the crease longer.
if this is done, then bangladesh can do well against any team, not just new zealand. our batsman have the talent and our bowlers have the discipline to acheive that. but they have to play positive cricket.

Ha ha... a perfect situation for the marketing people.
I still remember that "infamous" add put by channel 7 ( in aus) couple of years ago before the now the "most famous" cardiff match..
if we can pull the same stint again in land of [edit], we surely hv a good time.
Anyways, glad to see our own last test performance been eclipsed by that of our next opponent's current.
Behold for the future.

If the Tigers bat well and bowl well, I think they can do New Zealand.
And I hope to be at the Basin Reserve in mid-January ...
Carn the Tigers - win matches, and respect will follow.

"Playaz"? Dude...please don't ever say that again. That was terribly lame. /:)
Anyway, there's no point in getting all hyped up and jumpy about this New Zealand series. It's going to be one of our toughest, especially with the greentops the groundsmen are desperately trying to make. We're screwed if they manage to do so. Sure both teams will be able to bowl well.....but I think we are all forgetting that these are New Zealand conditions, and their batsmen would have an advantage over us.

not to mention NZ will be playing australia in one-dayers before this tour so i'm expecting NZ to have improved their form by then. they're very proud when it comes to playing australia and they hate losing to aussies and even though it's the one-day format it's going to get some of their players into top form.

After getting some good beatings from Saffers and Aussies, Kiwis are going to come down hard on us, no doubt about that. Our players better toughen up for this tour. I won't care what match results may be, but I want to see some fights.
