We could have easily won yesterday so I'm not very depressed. I was very impressed with Tamim yesterday. He played well. We know we can compete with these guys now so we need to put it all together and win! I think the key to us winning tommorow is Aftab. He needs to play sensisble and atleast give us a score in the 30's. We need Ashraful to keep on playing well. The thing I was pleased with the most was that us fans thought that a score of 201 was an utter failure. That shows how far Bangladesh cricket has come. A score of 201 is now a failure against a good team in their own country. A couple of years ago, many of us would be pleased with 201. Now we expect 250! That is a good attitude to have and it shows that we are developing into a real cricket nation that expects to win whenever we step onto the field.

http://stats.cricinfo.com/guru?sdb=ground;groundid=453;class=odiground;filte r=basic;team1=0;team2=0;notteam=0;homeaway=0;month =0;decade=200;season=0;startdefault=1983-03-19;start=1983-03-19;enddefault=2006-12-28;end=2006-12-28;tourneyid=0;finals=0;daynight=0;toss=0;schedule dovers=0;scheduleddays=0;result=0;followon=0;recen t=;viewtype=list;innings=0;runslow=;runshigh=;wick etslow=;wicketshigh=;ballslow=;ballshigh=;bpo=0;ov erslow=;overshigh=;event=0;submit=1;.cgifields=vie wtype

As you can see, last four matches played here were high scoring affairs. McLean Park is one of the very few grounds in NZ that exclusively belongs to cricket, so the pitch here should have changed much from year to year.

The least I want from the openers is a fifty partnership, and to survive the first 10 overs. I want aftab to always see the field settings and see where the hell he is hitting. I want ash to be ash. I want sakib to settle himself in, forget about everything else just get settled. I want to farhad reza just continue rotating the strike, and playing those cut shots properly.

I want to see mushfiq score sumthing

I want to see the pacers bowl with fire, and the spinners to keep it tight.

I like the sound of that. Anybody care to guess what these team rules are?

Team Rule #1: Play positively and with intent.
Team Rule #2: Keep your composure at all times.
Team Rule #3: Play sensibly, don't throw away your wicket once you're set at the crease.
Team Rule #4: Keep rotating the strikes in the middle of the innigs and let
loose towards the end of the innigs.

Those should definatly be few of our team batting rules.

The pitch is flat and is a Belter, All u need is good shot selection and good score is guaranteed

27.12.2007
Hamish Bidwell WHEN the local chief executive reckons you win the toss and bat, it's best to heed his advice.
Tomorrow's one-day international between New Zealand and Bangladesh at McLean Park will be no different, with Central Districts Cricket Association supremo Blair Furlong (pictured below) predicting big things for the team the coin falls in favour of.

That's because the look of this deck supports such a forecast, as does recent history.
"[Groundsman] Phil [Stoyanoff] is out in the middle with the roller now and I checked the pitch yesterday and it looked great," Furlong said this morn"He had the 13-tonne roller on it last week and it's as flat as a tack. Phil's rolled the grass right into the wicket, so there's a good grass covering which will give it pace and bounce and mean the ball doesn't burr on the clay. "I'd say whoever wins the toss will bat first and be looking to score at least 300."

This will be the number four strip's first outing of the season and in the only previous match on McLean Park this season - the four-dayer between CD and Wellington - 1327 runs were scored for the loss of just 25 wickets.
Plus, in the last four ODIs at the ground, 273 is the lowest score compiled by the team batting first.

"I think we were pretty pleased with everything apart from the way we bowled to Ashraful, and in some ways that was the way he played," Vettori said after the comprehensive six-wicket win.
"I thought he was pretty outstanding. It sort of reminded us a little of some of the world-class players going around in world cricket at the moment - his ability to hit good balls for fours or sixes consistently.
"He's obviously got an amazing eye, and he's going to be a threat to us all series."

we need to coninue what we done in the first 39 overs.

batsman should be confident that if they play proper shots and play less slogs and in the air shots we can get a good score on the board.

changes in the squad......... mehrab out, rajin or sajid in. if rajin then play in him middle order. if sajid in play mushfik up the order.

2nd ODI: Tushar replaces Mehrab
TigerCricket.com Report
27-December-2007

NAPIER: Bangladesh have made one change in their line-up for tomorrow’s second ODI against New Zealand at McLeans Park. Middle-order batsman Tushar Imran, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, comes in for Mehrab Hossain (Jr.).

The Tigers took the one-hour flight from Auckland to this scenic tourist attraction by the South Pacific today (Thursday) morning. After checking into their hotel, which is a stone-throw away from the beach, the Bangladesh team headed for McLeans Park for a light hour and a half’s training session which was followed by swimming.

Although the first ODI ended in a disappointing 6-wicket loss for the tourists Mohammad Ashraful's dashing innings of 70 from 57 balls at Eden Park has impressed many here including New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori.

"I thought he was pretty outstanding," Vettori told The New Zealand Herald.

"It reminded us of some of the world class players going round at the moment with his ability to hit good balls for four or six consistently. He's got an amazing eye and he's going to be a threat to us consistently through this series."

The match starts at 11:00am local time (4:00am Bangladesh Standard Time).

Teams

Bangladesh: Mohammad Ashraful (Captain), Zunaed Siddique, Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Shakib Al Hasan, Tushar Imran, Farhad Reza, Mushfiqur Rahim (Wicketkeeper), Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Shahadat Hossain. 12th man – Javed Omer Belim

New Zealand (From): Daniel Vettori (Captain), Brendon McCullum (Wicketkeeper), Jamie How, Peter Fulton, Scott Styris , Ross Taylor, Mathew Sinclair, Jacob Oram, Kyle Mills, Mark Gillespie, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel

Man, am i happy to see Tusher in the fold. We have heard so much about this guy, love him, hate him, support him, debate him but I doubt many of us actually have seen him play his wonderful strokes against a formidable side. After successfully captaining the A team and rightfully given another chance to prove his mettle,,, personally, I would love to discover Tusher as a dependable middle order who can serve the team for that ever eluding number 6. All the best to him. If we are to win a match,,, we need another performer besides the Ashraful/Mashrafee/Tamim/Aftab,, lets see how Tusher grabs this opportunity

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Following their comprehensive six-wicket rout in the first ODI at Eden Park, New Zealand would be looking to wrap up the three-match series tomorrow at McLean Park. New Zealand's batting revival, led by Jamie How, after disappointing performances against South Africa and Australia, brought relief to Daniel Vettori as he hoped the momentum would continue, with bigger challenges up ahead.
Mohammad Ashraful and Tamim Iqbal took the New Zealand attack apart with a 97-run stand and paved the way for a competitive score. However, New Zealand clawed back into the match after the tourists, placed comfortably at 150 for 3, lost their last seven wickets for only 51 runs. Bangladesh lost the plot and their bowlers could do little to turn the match into a contest. The target of 202 was overhauled with nearly seven overs to spare, thanks to a 90-run opening stand between How and Brendon McCullum.

"We've got to be tough on ourselves because we know that we have to put in good performances here so they lead into the England series," Vettori said. "There's always a few slip-ups but to come back from having a team 140-2 and to bowl them out for 200 [sic] is the most important bit."

Ashraful was impressive in his 57-ball 70 and Vettori admitted he had anxious moments when watching Ashraful blitz away and his side would have to be on their toes for the rest of the series while he's at the crease.

"I thought he was pretty outstanding," Vettori said. "It sort of reminded us of of some of the world class players going round at the moment in his ability to hit good balls for fours and sixes consistently. He's obviously got an amazing eye and is going to be a major threat to us the whole series."

Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons admitted that the batsmen got their strategy wrong and didn't focus on staying at the crease for 50 overs.

"The batsman that were in were probably looking at a 280 target rather than making sure we got 250," Siddons said. "The captain has a bit to answer for there. We've got to make sure we get 250 and bat our 50 overs.

"Ashraful and Tamim seemed to make it look pretty easy but the two guys threw it away. If you get those sorts of starts you can't afford to fall away that badly. We broke a few team rules, so we'll talk about that and hopefully make sure it doesn't happen again."

Bangladesh left out experienced opener Javed Omar for the first match and it remains to be seen if they would beef up their batting ahead of this must-win encounter.

Teams (likely)
New Zealand: Jamie How, Brendon McCullum, Peter Fulton, Ross Taylor, Scott Styris, Mathew Sinclair, Jacob Oram, Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills, Mark Gillespie, Chris Martin

Yep.

sorry an off topic, but still want to express here, i have found Suhrawadi Shuvo (http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/bangladesh/content/current/player/56138.html) is very much consistant in the middle order in under 19 team, which is one of the biggest lack in our current team....i have watching him last few series and he himself won few matches against Pak and SL. even he did play another good innings today, though he threw away his wicket aftr being a set batsman just like ash and tamy..... but i thnk he wil be one of our biggest middle order asset after 3-4 yrs.....

anyway good luck tigers......im not hoping anything for tomo as the coach have asked us to take the reality......

December 27, 2007, 08:48 AM
I think (inshallah) Ashraful will do good today aswell... so what im looking for is a good score..(fast paced) from Aftab.. and a decent 50 from the openers in 11/12 Overs.. If the openers play decent..and Aftab/Ashraful clicks.. trust me.. Sakib,Farhad,Mushy,Mehrab..they are all gonna do just fine!

khas kotha boletchen, KP bhai. Shotti-e ora almost nabalok.

Have you noticed one thing..Bangladesh team is full of young players always...cause when the young ones reach 23-25 they dont perform and dropped and replaced with young teeanagers. Over the years we've seen many young guys joinig the team with high prospects and persihed in few yrs except Ashraful and Mashrafi.

Tushar got a chance tomorrow..its high time for him to show if he can perform at international level as well as he does in domestic leagues. Wish him all the best.

I have emailed Zee Sports a couple of times involving the Bangladesh vs New Zealand series but didn't get any response as of yet so my request to you guys would be to email them so they could change their mind and show the series. My request is open to the UK, BD , etc members too as it would help your fellow Bangladeshi member and may be someone could arrange a stream for people who are not so advantaged to watch this game because of the country they are in or something. Please do mail them so they realize about BD cricket and it's millions of supporters!! Thank you.

Don't forget Junaid's hitting power and quality. May be he scored low in last ODI but if he roars then NZ will be in trouble provided others score big. The problem is when one batsman scores big the rest goes very cheaply. Not this time inshallah. NZ here we come.

I dont think that they will perform worse than the first ODI, so there is hope.
Jamie must have strategised with them, have to use their heads most of all, but if they try to play out the 50 overs without scoring good runs, then it is no good. They have to find a middle ground, and this is difficult for them.

Anyhow, lets hope the sitution gets better. i did not have high hopes for this tour. I wanted them to perform better in ODis, not get bowled out for less than 100 runs either in ODI or tests, not lose by an innings in the tests and take the game into th 5th day. If they can achieve this, then I will not be too disappointed.

I always pray and wish them good luck.

After reading about the pitch condition (that the wicket is flat, batsman friendly), the toss appears to be vital. Ash should win the toss and elect to bat first. Even though the stat reflects the most of our wins have come from chasing the score, I still believe that choosing to bat fisrt on a flat wicket is ideal.

We need our trump card Mashrafee to go with all throttle, take the half chance catches, consolidate the innings in middle overs with rotating strike, avoid the horror run outs (our batters are still pathetic in running between the wickets), put some more and more effort to plaiy with brain, and the win will be achieved!

I sense that Aftab will come hard with a bang tomorrow...mark my words!

Tamim scores 104*off 64 balls in the 1st warm-up match agt usa. in the next match he scores a 'duck'. his next scores were: 3, 18, 39, 2, 3
ii) wc 2007: tamim plays his most memorable knock of 51 agt india. his next scores read: 6, 1, 3.
iii) nz tour '07: tamim scores 104 agt auckland. in the next match he returns empty-handed, again!
there is every reason for us to be scared whenever tamim plays a good knock. hope he proves us wrong this time.

if tushar can score a 60, then that'll be a certain fairy tale.
mash is increasing his pace which is more than welcome. but his bowling lacks the penetration power. alarming!

I still think to be competitive on this track the Bangladesh team needs to score 270, because i know if the black caps win the toss and bat they will be aiming for 300+

Only in dream they will be able to make 300+ score.

read the match bulletins they are aiming for 300+ and this is a very good batting track, the boundaries are very small
