View Full Version : Stats Thread : Bangladesh averages under Jamie Siddons

Miraz
December 29, 2007, 07:04 AM
Siddons is aiming individual development which in turn will lead to the development of Bangladesh team as a whole.

I am opening this thread to compare the averages of Bangladesh players under Jamie Siddons with pre-Siddons era to gauge the extent of career development.

Every member is welcome to contribute as it might be difficult for me alone to monitor the day to day performances.

I am starting with the batting averages as batting remains our major concern in both forms of the game (ODI and Tests).

Looking for a volunteer who will work with the bowling averages. :)

Too early to draw comparison, but let's see what happens a few more matches down the line. May I request that a bowling average comparison is added also.

Well so far batting has improved but bowling hasnt but I think we need to play a few more matches before drawing up final conclusions as so far the pitches in NZ have given thumbs up to the batsmen only..anyway useful thread will be interesting after a couple of years.

It's too early to draw comparisons. I will keep this thread updated and only after 15-20 matches a realistic comparison can be made.

BTW, Miraz do u know how many matches Whatmore coached Bangladesh? Or the date Whatmore took charge of Bangladesh but the thing is Whatmore coached a lot of matches against Zimbabwe and Kenya but in the next 2-3 years Bangladesh arent scheduled to play Zim or Ken so Siddons wont have it as easy Whatmore did.

In statsguru use a filter

"matches started before 01 December 2007"

We have got our volunteer. Thanks HB.

That is why people like Sakib have the advantage of hyper-inflation. Not only Zimbabwe and Kenya, but also "Morga"s like Bermuda and Canada

This can be an excellent thread as it can shed some light on Coach Siddons' impact on the team and by extension, BD cricket.

Please make this a sticky during the ENTIRE course of the Coach's employment, and keep on updating it.

Thanks to Miraz and El Director ... :)

I think the number of matches in the sample is statistically not significant. I too had [ and still have ] hopes about him as a batsman. However, KM remains my first choice as keeper in tests.

I am not talking from these stats.

Here's Mushfiq's stat after the WC.

<TABLE class=engineTable><TBODY><TR class=data1><TD class=left>filtered</TD><TD>7</TD><TD>68</TD><TD class=padAst>35</TD><TD>13.60</TD><TD>0</TD><TD noWrap>-</TD><TD noWrap>-</TD><TD class=padDp2 noWrap>-</TD><TD noWrap>-</TD><TD>8</TD><TD>1</TD><TD>

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

He is having a gradual decline.

And, you could also add the Mirzapore stats...equally bad.

Great initiative! Bowling chart is a must as well.

Sakib's batting shortcomings were horribly exposed soon as he was given that test debut against India. He has done well in the NCL to his credit, but, I think, he still is a few years away from being a quality batsman. He needs to work on his feet movement and looks very vulnerable to balls leaving the off stump channel. He is gritty and I have no doubt that he will overcome it with time.

These figures show in great detail the sheer poverty in our bowling department. Let's not forget some of them have played quite a few matches.

It is only that many of us watch these guys through rose-tinted glasses that we miss out the stark reality. The "talented" Sakib needs another 10 overs to create a new record. The highest number of overs bowled by a Bangladeshi before taking his first wicket. Anwar Hossain Monir is the dubious holder of this "record".

Mashrafe better "turn up for the game" - better excuses are needed.

Spot on. He does seem very uncomfortable with those leaving him, or worse yet, those going straight through the off side channel. I was hoping he'd have figured his footwork out too seeing that he scored so many in the NCL, but the way he's been playing in New Zealand once again confirms how far inferior the league is compared to international cricket.

Before anything, he has got to get rid of those half-hearted cut shots that he plays and misses standing his ground.

Many of these shots are the product of league cricket which is even inferior to "One Day" Mirzapore. These "shots" pay a lot of dividend there as the bowling is grossly inferior. Any bowler who can extract a bit of bounce will have them for breakfast. In the domestic game, the one or two of our bowlers who could remotely bowl anywhere near International standards, hardly played any matches until this year with the exception of Rasel who is a different sort of bowler anyway. I remember an ex-selector telling me that it was not worth playing these matches as the standard was low. It begged the question, where would they get to practice with a higher standard ?

WOW ... quality stuff Dr. Z, both you and Arnab should post more on cricket for all of our sake.

i think they used to...:) waaay back in the day.

btw, great thread...we should sticky it and also have a side by side comparison with pre-DW and DW-era stats as well.

btw, i am still working on an Excel database of our core 20 or so players (will have to add Junaid and Sajidul to it now also). i am maybe 20 percent complete with it.

because its, excel, its not going to be extremely handy...but fairly easily I can dig up stats which cricinfo's stats guru cannot. for example, if you wanted to know what mushfiqur rahim's ODI batting strike rate is in matches played in Sri Lanka, chasing a target, and batting no higher up than at # 5 position, you wouldn't be able to currently get that statistic easily.

but with my new database, it will be a matter minutes and, voila, you will have the answer.

Visual Whatmore Effect (http://www.banglacricket.com/alochona/showthread.php?t=4948&highlight=whatmore+effect)

Bowling improved significantly. Batting not much. Batting almost always followed up & down pattern. Hope this is the area Siddons improves a lot. Bowling will take us nowhere really if you cant bat.

Visual Whatmore Effect (http://www.banglacricket.com/alochona/showthread.php?t=4948&highlight=whatmore+effect)

if the problem was the inherent non-idealness of the PWC or LG ICC ratings system, use my WEIR system instead.

of course, I'd have to go and figure out the stats for the opposition's bowlers at the time we played them. of course to simplify things we could just use their current cumulative career stats...

I am really disappointed to see the gradual decline of Mushfiqur Rahim, I had a great hope on him..... hopefully he will score some runs in the Test series.
I think Mushfiq's batting technique is one of the best in BD..given more time and patience I believe he will turn out to be a world-class keeper-batsman and I think he has the potential to be a future captain..he captained the U-19s and they enjoyed a great spell under him and the way he operates in the field: shouting orders, spurring the team on..he is a natural leader so I think we have to have patience with him.

I agree wholeheartedly. I miss him as he is one of my favourit players. such enthusiasm behind the wicket. hope Siddons bring him back in his core players training camp.

Let the series end first. that way you don't have to update again.
