KHODA HAFEZ GOLLA!

Couldn't say is it better my self, Hopefully these two can get their 100's and than Bashar, Ashraful, SN, Mushifiq contribute solidly with the bat hopefully get a declaration pass the 500 barrier, Than with the New Ball Masri, Sajid and Rajib can wreck havoc and than very own Ashraful, yes Ashraful is going to be handful with his wrong'un these kiwi batsman are clueless against it.

Only 2 results possible a Victory or a Defeat 4 hours away from Day 3!

Yup, like everyone is saying, BD needs to go down big on adrenaline rush control. Seldom have we been able to drive ourselves to a position for a catapault leap into the "far and the beyond."

The more we can milk out of this partnership, the better. Push ourselves into the 200s before any loss of wicket. But this is less relevant. The top order needs to mimic and ensure that NZ does not come to bat before lunch on day 4.

Lets hope our openers continue and wipe of the deficit. Another 250 runs from the remaining batters between lunch of day 3 to lunch of day 4 will force NZ to come out all wobly in the 2nd go.

Is the pitch slowing down ? Are there scars on it ? This will open the doors for the Ashraful-Sajedul-Enamul trio and give them more purpose.

Now how does all this happen -

1) Openers begin playing and respecting the situation like true openers with a blank slate. I hope they did not burn themselves up more with high 5's and get caught in the moment way too much to lose their way to the ultimate goal. Sometimes your friends can actually make you more cocky. It well, get those thighs messaged..and go to sleep in time. And do not dream while sleeping.

2) Whoever comes in at no 3 will be under the most pressure. Additionally, the opener who did not get out needs to stay like that. Slow down if you have to...tease the bowlers if you have to. That is why # 1 is so crucial.

3) Negotiate the new ball when it is taken. When's that going to happen...beginning after lunch on day 3. The NZealanders will come out with more poise with lunch in their stomach and a new ball in their hands. Make sure that is the onlt reason for excitement for them.

4) By the 4rth day, pitch is like the planet Mars. Continue grafting.

5) When our bowlers begin, use the slow-bies. If we are really lucky, Mash/Shahadat will give us a good opening burst with a wicket or 2. That will really put NZ on the defensive, slow down their runs, and set us up for a minimum DRAW.

very good plan. about the number 3 option, i have to agree with bangladesh_sy with not bringing bashar and bringing mushy instead. great thinking guys!:smug:

I am not really expecting a win. But if the fighting spree continues and BD batters can hold their horses it might be a very good show today. The scary part is Vettori and Company will be all fired up today and will try to concentrate on any mistake done by BD and cash on that. Fiery spells, sledging, competitive attitudes are on the way with huge home advantage. If we can survive on it what we should, as we have suffered such gruesome acts way too often then a good fight can take this match to anywhere! Another weak link is Peter "Spider" Parker.

January 5, 2008, 01:25 PM
Couldnt agree more with this. The openers need to keep hold of their concentration and play sensibly. No. 3 is going to be a crucial position at this stage coz early demise of no. 3 batsman can lead to another setback. Black caps will try out of their skin to break this pair and we cant afford to make any lapse in concentration.

Guys is there any highlights for the 2nd day?? I want to watch the parts I missed. Thank you.

January 5, 2008, 01:38 PM
Very good points Pundit bhaiya but a big question is could our batsmen be successful trying to follow these points and judging on past experiences our players always make some big blunders after playing superbly like this. But I hope they prove the past experiences to be wrong and successfully follow the points which could change the results of this match instantly. Some more god points by some other guys are that they do need to think it's of day 3 as the beginning of their 2nd innings and need to get a good score so that the NZ batsmen have a really hard time chasing that. Also remember to stay positive.

AsifTheManRahman
January 5, 2008, 01:45 PM
Pundit, yes the pitch is slowing down apparently. This should definitely be of great assistance to us as our bowlers can give the Kiwis a hard time with a lack of pace, should they decide to take a leaf out of Syed Rasel's Guide to Bowling the Crap Out of Pace Loving Batsmen.

Now about the batting, if the first day was any indication, playing Bashar at 3 might just trigger off another collapse. If he continues to slash at anything and everything while standing inside the crease, it will only be a matter of time before he falls. What we need here is for someone to come in and continue the good work that these two have been doing. We desperately need to prevent a collapse upon the fall of the first wicket. Thus a lot will depend on how the number three handles the first few overs or so. And who better than Mushfiq to start anew when the partnership's broken? For the bloody umpteenth time, we are wasting him at 7. Frustratim Ultimatum!

Eshen

At this stage of the match, sending Mushfiq next won't be a bad choice, but I will prefer SN.

Less than three hours left. May it rain in Sydney. ;)

sandpiper
January 5, 2008, 02:21 PM
Exactly what I was also thinking of (considering Mushy's recent form with the moving ball). SN could provide some gritty resistance at that position to prevent further decline. Mohammad Ashraful himself is not also a bad option considering the strong platform we world have to work on. Whoever comes at no. 3, needs to follow the footsteps of the openers to consolidate the innings. :flag::flag:

AsifTheManRahman
January 5, 2008, 02:34 PM
The only reason I hope they don't play Ashraful is that he's too precious to lose right after a grand opening stand. The rest of the middle order seems to get hugely demoralized once he gets out.

Bancan
January 5, 2008, 02:38 PM
Hoping we will score big today. A century from both openers would be good.

But really prepared for something bad too.

January 5, 2008, 02:39 PM
Last night when the camera panned the Bangladesh dressing room I caught a glimpse of Ash with his pads on...anyone else saw that? I didn't see Bashar anywhere. Did Siddons put him in the dog house after the way he played in the first innings?

tiger_omar
January 5, 2008, 03:09 PM
The problem with Mushfiq is that he struggles with real pace early on his innings, specially when there's pressure so I don't know if it would be such a great idea to send him at #3.

But it's not a bad idea though, because I do think that his skills are being wasted at #7. So maybe after Bashar retires, he can be our new 1 down batsman is Test cricket.

Good thing is that the ball is 39 overs old and nothing much is happening for DV. If we can handle DV successfully and see-off the 2nd new ball without much damage, I don't see any reason why we can not score 400+

Hope Siddique and Tamim will not throw away their wickets. Both of them look as good as to score a big hundred.

January 5, 2008, 04:31 PM
Good 30 mins to go before our two youngters go in the middle. I dont see any reason why at least one of them wont get a ton. The stage is ready, wicket is flat, ball is old, opponent's bowling is mediocre (except of Vettori), the two batsmen are in good touch.....then why not?

We all pray for you tigers! Now go in the middle and bash the kiwis!!

Pitch Report: This pitch is slowing down every passing moment now and has hardly anything for the bowlers. The track hasn't yet broken up which means there are no cracks on it. This pitch will be a touch more bowler friendly today as compared to yesterday since there is a lot more cloud cover today. The batsmen would find it easy when they get going and it would be a hardworking day for the bowlers who will have to toil hard to make a mark. The Kiwis would be targetting to pick up wickets early on this morning when there would be some moisture in this track. All in all, this is going to be a day which should see the batsmen gather runs with ease given the fact that they play sensibly.

Pitch and weather: The conditions are slightly overcast this morning, unlike the first two days and the bowlers should find the conditions easier. However the pitch is still quite flat and the seamers will have to be disciplined with their line and length. Bangladesh will still have to be patient as there is plenty of time left in this match to build a healthy lead.

Sohel
January 5, 2008, 05:12 PM
Martin's going around the wicket and trying to angle his deliveries towards the slips, not much from the pitch yet ... Tamim continues to deal with him comfortably with a straight bat. All good early signs so far ... :)

NZ bowlers seem to have decided on a defensive, "containment" strategy ... banking on our young guns to lose it, BEAUTIFUL 4 by Tamim, taken on the half-volley, then a leading edge ... calm down Tamim!
