Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the first Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh at the University Oval in Dunedin. This is Kanishkaa Balachandran, your commentator through this match. Also, here's a very good morning to my fellow crew members Jamie Alter (on bulletin) and Kiran, (on scoring).

21.20 GMT: We're roughly ten minutes away from the toss and we'll update you as soon as we receive information.

International cricket has moved away from Carisbrook, Dunedin's traditional venue, and the action has shifted to Test cricket's newest venue, the University Oval. The ground has been in the news of late for all the wrong reasons though, after a recent State Championship match ended in 2 days with 34 wickets tumbling.

NZ is worst when it comes to pitch preperations. They go to any extent to make it a 'home advantage'...I remember when they used to create Killer fields (literally) so that they can compensate their lack of skill.

The team I hate most is NZ ..after Steve Bucknor (if he were a country)

Pitch Report: This is New Zealand's newest Test ground at it's traditional venue, Dunedin. This is a new pitch here at the University Oval Ground and Vettori expects it to assist the bowlers at the very beginning of this day. This pitch of course was in the news during a recent first class match for not the right reason as 34 wickets crumbled in only 2 days time. It would be interesting to see how many days this match lasts. The 22 yard strip looks to be a hard track with an even coverage of dead grass all around. It would offer some good bounce to the bowlers and as the time progresses, this would ease out to become a good batting track. Vettori won the toss and decided to bowl first, Ashraful said that he would have batted if he had won the toss, so all in all, both the captains have got what they wanted to do and this promises to be a good game of cricket.

New Zealand have won the toss and decided to bowl first

Hello and Welcome for the LIVE coverage of the first Test match between New Zealand and Bangladesh. The Kiwis are very confident coming into the long version of the game after having swept the 3 match ODI series clean. The home side are looking forward to put forth another strong performance in this match and it will be tough for the visitors to stop the Kiwis. This is the 50th Test match that the Bangladeshis are playing and they want to do well on such a special occasion. This should be a good contest between the bat and ball. Stay connected for more news about this match...

2.4 Martin to Bashar, no run, another bouncer on the middle and leg, following Bashar again, there is a man in the deep for the hook shot, Bashar goes for the pull again, misses again, Bashar is a compulsive puller and the Kiwis have done their homework beautifully here!
2.3 Martin to Bashar, no run, Martin bangs it in short on the middle and leg, well directed towards the body, Bashar goes on the backfoot and looks to pull it straightaway, misses it, not the right shot selection first up!

My match plan would have been to open with Tamim and SN, with Rajin as one down..he'd have more chance to survive the new ball right now.Bashar is in trouble

2.4 Martin to Habibul Bashar, no run, and another one..this one pitches outside off and climbs on bashar. He goes for the hook rather unconvincingly and the ball misses his glove through to the keeper
2.3 Martin to Habibul Bashar, no run, well well..we all know Bashar is a compulsive hooker and Martin tempts him with one by banging it in short and Bashar predictably goes for it, misses it completely

wtf!!!!

3.4 Mills to Bashar, 3 runs, fullish delivery outside the off stump, sliding in and shapes away from the right hander, Bashar comes on the frontfoot and drives it on the rise to sweeper cover or three runs, excellent running between the wickets, Mills won't mind it, Bashar played quite away from his body, an edge and that hungry slip cordon can be fed with the catch!

Good 6 or bad 6? I'm going by the audio commentary, here.

bulbul_fan
January 3, 2008, 05:20 PM
4.1 Martin to Bashar, SIX!!, short and wide outside the off stump, swinging into the right hander sharply, close to the body to be cut, Bashar goes on the backfoot and looks to slash it away, top edge and the ball flies over the slip cordon, the ball flies over third man for a six, an ede goes for a six this time, that boundary is very short-only 58 meters and Bashar cleared it with ease!
CAN U believe?????????????????????
