guys, honestly, bangladesh should be demoted from test cricket, like zimbabwe. they simply are not capable of playing cricket for more than 3 days. they don't have it. you can't blame them, these are schoolkids. maybe in 5 yrs they'll be mature enough to start realizing what it means to be responsible. they should just play 20-20 and maybe an occasional ODI tournament. but other than that, they just are not ready for cricket at this level.

Roni_UK, true that is the only good thing. but really look at the mentality of this team. those two openers were playing their 1st test, and they approached it like an ODI match, scoring at 5 runs/over. as soon as they start playing more, they'll become like the rest of this team - utterly irresponsible and incapable of learning the basics of test cricket. look at how mashrafe got out, or ash, or haba, or even tamim and zunaed today after they played so well yesterday. really incapable to working on advantage. SN is showing some application now, but the rest belong to an ODI team.

I'm not only blaming him; Ash, Aftab, Mash -- they are all responsible. But having Hablu at no. 3 just upsets any attempt at getting into a groove.

Our batsmen often need some time to get their eye in; they're often quite vulnerable before that.

exactly. they should also only play zim in test cricket for some time. until they understand what test cricket is. and also the whole team should watch other teams play test cricket on tv. and the coach should do real time training on them about how the indians and aussies are fighting.

Dunedin was a bowler-friendly pitch, something BD still needs to learn to play in.
What we have achieved in this test is having a home team bat in the 2nd innings? One more thing: It takes temperament to play cricket.

Pathetic team with pathetic performances. Can't expect anything from them until they learn how to keep wickets in hand and score at the same time. No consistency, partnership, etc then what could we expect from them?

bashar and aftab needs to be dropped. period. Their positions needs to be filled from Sakib, Rajin or Farhad. I would go with Rajin and Farhad. Farhad would do just fine, he did pretty good in recent national league where Bashar's highest was 32 or something out of 23/24 balls. He will never change, nevr. This guy should be dropped.

Mashrafee shouldn't be playing like slog hitters in 8th position. if he wants to play like this, he needs to play at number 10/11. Coach should talk with him..

My 11 for the 2nd test will be following -

1.tamim
2.Junaid
3.Mushfique
4.Ash
5.Rajin
6.Nafees
7.Farhad
8.Enamul
9.Mash
10.Sajid
11.Shahadat

They desperately need to get rid of Aftab and Shumon from the test squad!
They can be replaced easily by Rajin and Farhad
Similar styles and advantages, but more probable to score SOMETHING at the very least!

I am not utterly disappointed though. There are some ray of hope after all. Tamim, Zunaid, Mashrafe and SN (somewhat) kept promise. Sajid and Shahadat were among wickets. So, a round of applause for them.

:clap::clap::clap:

As a team we could manage to avoid the innings defeat at the beginning of a new year. Hope they will perform better in Wellington.

To all of the BC members:

haba, ash, aftab, mushfique, enamul, and shahadat should be dropped in the 2nd test match.. if they performed in 1st test match then there could be a possibilty to draw the match, but they failed.

shahadat and enam has no bowling line and variation. How they are going to take wicket? Instead of them i would pick farhad, and rajjjak/rafique
haba, ash, aftab, and musfique threw the wicket for no reason.. they should be punished.instead of them i would pick ,rajin, sakib, pilot, and javed omar[ as 1 down batsman]

atleast they can led the match into 4 or 5 days..

I am surprised to see that some posts are suggesting that it was not a bad performance just because we did not loose by an inning. We are a test team with 50 tests behind us; these statements just don't make any sense to me. We need to demand more from our players. I will understand if they need more time to gather experience and improve but to keep repeating the same mistakes match after match and year after year is just not acceptable.

Nothing to take away from Tamim and Junaed's partnership but to collapse during both inning is almost a crime. I demand improvement; I don't care about win or loose in next 2 years, but I would like to see our batsmen valuing their wicket every time they play and our bowlers stick to a consistent line, length and variation. Only positive that can come out of a game if they are perform better (even it is very little) than the previous one.

unexpected second day, very expected third day and equally expected outcome of the test....

even a world record opening partnership wouldnt have helped because of our non- functional middle order. Thats our biggest problem right now, must try something more effective in the second test and throwing out Bashar should be on the top of the list. Expected aftab to prove himself. Farhad and Shakib deserves a chance.

It was good to see the bowlers finding their feet....

------ amazing comment .... there is nothing could be better than this to describe Bnagladesh Cricket Team ....
Do you have any hope, realisticly? 3/4 years ago we did the same thing but we thought after 3/4 years we will be a way better side ..... afsos .......

It wasn't unexpected. It's a trend in our cricket team that when the openers do well, middle order fails, when openers do bad, middle orders sometimes do well. So for that reason I didn't get excited yesterday when I saw the openers doing so well.

However, I have to blame the openers for some reason. They shoudn't have got out. THey were the set batsmen. If one of them stayed, then it could've been otherwise.

its a shame that after 8 years in test cricket we are still collapsing as we did 7-8 years ago. we've got a decent team but there are few weak links and they are doing the most of the damages. we didn't need haba and aftab in the test and i hope haba don't get anymore chance. rajin will be a much better option and farhad or sakib for aftab.

What else can be added...? The story of Bangladesh, I guess. We spoke about how the selection was wrong and it proved again that gut feel doesnt win you matches,,consistent performance does. Aftab/Bashar/Nafees/Mushfique never performend against Bariasal/Sylhet and we expected them to perform against New Zeland, what else can you say about that... We ourselves are creating this embarrasment, so be it. Let us be humilated again and again until some wise wakes up and realizes finally what Test criceket is all about.

Handling sudden prosperity when there has been none can be tricky as well. That will be the next learning curb. For a starter , we have at least found a good pair of opening batsmen after years of futile search, and just as Siddons said, it is time to focus on the next four. In the future, granted we keep getting solid effort from either of the opening bat, we will take advantage. It will come. It has to.

Aftab can remain as an ODI specialist, that is the only way he knows to bat. He has lovely strokes, and if he can learn to play spin, he then can be a valuable batsman.
I still think that Siddons will have faith in him, and maybe when he returns to BD, Siddons will help him. I hope so for Aftab's sake.
