Nice. This arrangement of Indo Bangla sports is actually a waste, as in terms of
national sports development it has nearly a zero effect, but talk about Cricket - now
something good to happen.

Like the team.

i think they did a decent job with the squad, this will give some of the young prospects more cricket to prove their worth for higher honours in the future.

And besides, CAB is actually a stronger side. I dont expect our players will have an easy ride with them...Didnt the Bengal reach the finals at the Ranji trophy?

Read it, know it, think it.

Even if we win all the Golds in this tourney will it really ensure any medal in SAF games, not to mention the continuous drubbing in Asian and Commonwealth Games. So the Mangement did a good thing, included T20. Practise for the young players, fireworks and fun for the crowd.

I dislike T20. T20 should be only for school cricketers under 9th grade or something. They are killing cricket.

I like the fact that they are doing something together.

It's fun to watch.

The CAB team will be led by Soham Ghosh (http://content-www.cricinfo.com/india/content/player/28941.html). Many Indian U/19 cricketers have more FC experience than Soham does. Judging by the captain, I am guessing CAB has sent a low profile team for the tourny.

Are delwar and Kamrul both pacers? If yes, we have only nayeem and Ryad as spinners, right?

Great to see Milon back in the fold! He'll do well Inshallah. I guess Riyad has been selected for his bowling. My starting XI would be the same as Ehsen's but I'd bat Riyad much further down the order. Definitely after Dhiman, Milon and Zia ... :)

Shahzada would have been a good selection for this format, but that's another story.

i also agree with Eshen's team and would also put dhiman and milon above riyad in the batting order, isn't delwar hossain meant to be an allrounder....maybe he could bat higher but definately dhiman and milon should be above them.

Any form of cricket is good and allows fringe players like Dhiman and dollar to get some match practice in.

A lot of these guys should play in the A team, but A team tours are problematic. they tend to take place when the senior side don't have any games to play, so the bulk of the A team tour to Englandb this summer, for example, is likely to comprise of many of the senior boys with little room for the fringe players like nazimuddin and dhiman.

That's a real shame, but I suppose we need to get our 1st XI right b4 we can start talking about the fringe players...

Twenty/20 is the only thing that will remain of cricket in the future !

this is the way i'm looking at the current situation, we want the best 1st XI, having a better look at the fringe players is atm imo very beneficial to the 1st XI because the 1st XI isn't right yet and maybe some of the players who are currently fringe players would fit better into the 1st XI than some players who are currently in the 1st XI. some of the fringe players might be the answer....

I agree, our first XI is not yet settled and we need to know who our best players are. However, realistically there are probably only 2 or 3 places up for grabs. The problem is timing, we play so few tests and ODIs that when we have a really meaty A tour, most of the first XI play as a way of keeping themselves in form.

The last time we had a proper A team tour was around this time last year when we played England A. Even then more of the senior players (aftab, rajin, Ash etc) would probably have played if it wasn't for the fact that there was a World Cup round the corner!

A team games need to be arranged so that they overlap with the senior games, that way the fringe players get a decent chnace to prove themselves...

I see it somewhat differently Mijan. I like T20 better as 'cricket entertainment' far better than ODIs while test cricket remains the only 'real cricket' in my book. Only 3 hours max and no slow overs in the middle, just can't beat that at this day and age. Also, the sheer duration of T20 presents an entirely new set of challenges, uncertainties, pressures, possibilities and pleasures to make for better competition. Can't stand the slogging though ... cringe! ... and it's not good for most our young cricketers at this juncture when they should be focused on learning the 'fundamentals' and apply those to stay in the middle or bowl consistently - spell after spell and then session after session.

Test cricket will always be here Inshallah! It's the inevitable result of appreciating cricket, even when something like T20 introduces people to the sport.

during australia's dometic t20 comp they interviewed a lot of player during the match and a lot of them mentioned the teams aim was just to stick to the basics and do the basics as well as they could so if the young BD players take that approach then t20 cricket will hopefully bring out some positives. i think a big issue with t20 is the amount it's being played, there is now so much more cricket for the players that they'll be tired more often and the standard could go down.

Nayeem ensure clean sweep

http://www.thedailystar.net/story.php?nid=25183

Nayeem Islam smacked 46 off 43 balls as Bangladesh Combined Divisions team made a clean sweep of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) side in the Indo-Bangladesh Bangla Games at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium yesterday.

The hosts made sure they won the gold medal in style as they finished 3-0 in the series, with a 31-run victory in the last game.

Opting to bat first, the side led by all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad scored 114-9 in 20 overs with Nayeem's fine effort that included four boundaries and a six. The skipper himself hit 21 off 27 balls. For the visitors, Sohom Ghosh took three wickets.

In reply, CAB side were restricted to 83-8 in their 20 overs. Left-arm paceman Kamrul Islam took three for 13 in his tight four-over spell.

Nayeem was later adjudged the man-of-the-match.

Unfortunately as far as I know, Bengal were relegated to the plate division from super division in 2007-2008 season. The team reached the Ranji final in 2006-2007 but most of the players of that team did nt play as some joined ICL and Ganguly was playing for Team India. They only have a couple of good players in Ranadeb Bose and Manoj TiwarI but 2 is never enough to do well in indian domestic season. I think their under 22 team is even further weak and will be easily beaten. Anyway I hope more players like Ganguly can come up from bengal and don the colors of Team India in future.
