Every player has to go through auction unless he is an icon player. If Kalkata likes Rafique that much, they have to be the highest bidder to get him.

I start the bidding @ $1.00 USD,

I think Ash is going to get some Major Guap I'd say $75,000 and Masri around 45-50K Range. Thats probably going to sound cheap if you compare it to the Aussies and Pakis but remember the Salary Cap is $5 Million USD and every team is going to need about 15 players, 11 regulars and 4 substitutes for Intl duty

It's sad that they don't have Ashraful or Mashrafee in original list of players to be auctioned. They would definitely create some buzz unlike Taibu or even Zoysa. But it is not over yet for these Bangladeshi players. Franchise can contact and sign an international player after the auction unless there are multiple interests. In that case, there will be an auction held for those players.

I will be really surprised if Ash, Mash or Tamim don't receive some calls soon. It will happen.

I guess the news was bhua. May be Rafiq misunderstood. May be it was not Shah Rukh, it was Faruk ( the ex Bollywood Hero) who called him. And may be it was not about Kolkata ... may be it was about Kolabagan, they need a spinner desperately.

The auction today was held by IPL and they had their list of players. Franchises who are interested in other players will offer them a contract later on and unless that player creates multiple interests, they can be signed at a later date. So, Rafique will most likely be signed soon.

When you are used to look down on some one it doesn't matter how good they are you will look down on them always.

So i think they don't see that way and thinks that its better to hire a foreign nobody rather than hire some superstar from the neighboring country who will benefit from this and get us again in the next WC... BTW they don't see Pakistanis as threat as they already can beat them/ at their level...

They were not auctioned at all, which is why they are not even in the reserve list. If you are in the auction list and dont sell, you are automatically transfered to the reserve list. I guess, Bangladeshi players are unlucky, or maybe their performance is not consistent enough to fit into these top notch teams.

Ok some clarifications ..even though Mash,Ash and others are not a part of the initial pool of players (the Auctioned) they can be 'bought' by individual teams.Since BCCI/IPL has signed up Ash,Mash and Rafique they will be approched by the teams themselves. If two teams approch the same player then there would be an auction among the two teams.
For eg: the Jaipur team has only spent 3 million of the Max 5 million and hence they would use this money to buy from the unauctioned palyers.

I would love to see Ash and Mash in in the Hyderbad team.Rafique I guess is over the hill, at 38 I rather have a local lefty representing Hyd.We have a young kid Ohuja on the fence ready to break in.

I personally think that IPL is a great opportunity for Ash to show his talent to the rest of the world. Not many have seen him play, most of friends draw a blank when I gush abt Ash's 50+ vs NZ (ofcourse he threw his wicked away with a stupid hoik to the midwicket). This is a good stage for him....and good for the team who buys him.

wrong.

The Jaipur franchise has been penalised for falling short of spending the mandatory minimum amount US$3.3 million mark.Jaipur bought only eight players, spending US$2,925,000, a figure well below the required US$3.3 million mark. The difference between the minimum of US$3.3 million and the amount they have spent at the auction will be used to reimburse players whose names were withdrawn.Mohammad Yousuf and Ashwell Prince were the two players who were withdrawn from the auction as they didn't attract any bids.

England cricket fans can be forgiven for the IPL passing them by so far as no England players are involved in it because it clashes with the start of the county season and the English Test summer

Link (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/tms/2008/02/india_cashes_in_on_twenty20_gl.shtml)

England are the only leading Test nation with no involvement in this year's tournament.

England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke said he had no intention of releasing players to accommodate the 2009 IPL tournament as England were scheduled to tour the West Indies at the same time.

IPL organisers have insisted they are not requesting a break in the international calendar to avoid direct competition with national boards.

We should accept the fact that as talented as Ashraful or Mashrafee could be,, neither of them match the execution of Dhoni or Harbhajan Singh. Our players may have the talent but they dont have the "Reliability" and their averages are more 50%-60% less than the players being traded. Its sad that even Taibu gets a better call than Ashraful,, and all that is due to the consistency we lack. There is no easy fix to it..But I think Tamim will be the player who will get the nod pretty soon as he is becoming more consistent, has the charishma and can be devastating for any team. Not to mention Tamim did Tame-m them during the World Cup..

We shouldn't be worried about why our players didn't get selected. Its the players who should ask themselves as to why they were not selected ! Ashraful should bang his head and say " Why me", "oh why me", and knock himself over trying to figure out why he wasn't selected !
