Can anyone tell me how the players ranking points count?

In the last match, Rajib got 9 wickets and Dale Steyn got 7 wickets

But Dale got 870 ranking points for the match and Rajib got only 406 for his 9 wickets.

Now I'm really confused. How is this possible? Do the upper ranked teams players get higher points? Is there a different equation for the lower ranked team players?

Man these rankings sucks....

its not just one match that counts into determining player ratings. It is counted over a much longer period.

I know that. But they show the all time best ranking points up there. And the best ranking points comes from one single game.

And Ratings change with each match. Sometimes increases sometimes decreases. But Career Best ranking will be up there untill he breaks it again.

This ranking shows carrer rating peak performance or in another word the best rating a player have reached at a certain junction in his carrer throughout a much longer period. Again its never counts for one match only.

Yes, what GTM says make sense. It is their peak rating at that point in time. Shahdat overall is also 406, which he got from playing throughout his career not just the one against SA. The maximum point is 1000, and anything over 500 is quite good.

yea its not for a single game. its cumulative. so it means rajib's 406 was attained after the south africa game, not during it.

the real problem lies with the brain of our moron cricketers. we should talk about this problem before we talk bout the problem of cricinfo, LG ranking or anything else.

These rankings also tend to reflect consistency against quality opposition. Good to see Rajib making a positive move. It would be great if can sustain it.
