Man this guy's rich. According to our calculations in another thread, he would make close to 30 lakhs this year even without the IPL. With the IPL, his monthly income goes up to around 5 lakhs/month. Richest Bangladeshi cricketer ever?

I don't think he will learn anything at all. He is the 20/20 specialist, he may well teach others. Only if it was One day or 5 day games then he might have learned something from the senior Indian Batsmen.

Delhi Team: AB de Villiers, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik, Glenn McGrath, Farveez Maharoof, Mohammad Asif, Virender Sehwag, Shoaib Malik, Manoj Tiwary, Daniel Vettori

The team will be under the charge of Victoria coach Greg Shipperd.

If Ashraful is added to the Delhi team, they will have three international captains (Ashraful, Malik, and Vettori) playing for the team.

I feel like the price is a bargain. They are paying him $225,000 for 3 years when other players are getting atleast $150,000 per year to begin with. I will take it though. ;)

Just looking at the 11 that Delhi have, Ash should be a regular in the XI ... Just my IMO. I think Delhi got a bunch of Bargins too McGrath for only 100,000 a Year and Ash for the amount he's getting for 20/20 is really good. Vettori grossly overpaid I hope Rafique can earn 1/2 of that

Delhi will be an average team. Lets look at their batting order so far:

Sehwag, De Villers, Gambir, Ash, Tiwary, Malik, Dilshan, Karthik, Vettori, Asif, McGrath.

I thought McGrath got a US$ 350,000 contract which means he will be getting US$ 350,000 per year for the next 3 years.

It seems like Ashraful got a US$ 75,000 contract, i.e. he will be paid US$ 75,000 per year in the next 3 years.

IPL do have a limit of four foreign players per side per match. However, Asif and Malik won't be available for the first few weeks of the league because of Pak-Aus series. NZ will be touring England in April-June, so Vettori will probably miss the whole league this year. So, I say Ash has pretty good chances to get some matches under his belt.

Virender Sehwag (icon), Daniel Vettori (US$625,000), Shoaib Malik (US$500,000), Mohammad Asif (US$650,000), AB de Villiers (US$300,000), Dinesh Karthik (US$525,000), Farveez Maharoof (US$225,000), Tillakaratne Dilshan (US$250,000), Manoj Tiwary (US$675,000), Gautam Gambhir (US$725,000), Glenn McGrath (US$350,000)

Oh, I see. I thought, whatever the bid price, the player will get it over a three year period, not each year.

So Ash is basically getting one third of what Maharoof (Delhi's lowest bid player) is getting each year.

First of all in terms of money, you get way more in the IPL. IPL is a 20/20 league, and results from IPL will not show whether or not Ash can play 4 day cricket in english condition. English counties offer 20/20 contract as well most not to long ago one of them offered Afridi to play, but he rejected. I understand your point that if he can learn to bat in english conditions and gets coaching from there he would become a better player. Ash needs to make runs in test level to prove he can play in english county but then again if he's making runs in test level why would he bother to go to english county? More money in IPL, closer to home and only 5 weeks long.

He's sold for that amount but this is not what he's getting from IPL. He will get more money from IPL.

A lot of players were sold for around 200,000 dollars but they are getting double of that from IPL.

Teams buy the players from IPL. IPL gets the money from Teams. Players don't get the money they are sold for. All the players are contracted by IPL for some amount of money. And players will get only that money.

Maybe I am selfish, but Ash should stay in Bangladesh with his team and try to improve their standard of cricket which is in shambles at the moment.
After all, he is paid handsomely by the board and the club for which he is supposed to play. This will ruin his cricket.

Sorry i cant agree with you. first of all i don't how he can improve bd cricket by him self. Besides the player who plays like stupid in NTL games what makes you think he will play better in local leagues? His local avg is not much better than NTL one.

Third money speaks if he really goes to play he will have a huge pressure to perform. He will learn Cricket. (yeah i still think he has lot to learn) Also he might pick up a trick or two from other big players. He will be facing asif and macgra in the Net. So he will improve no doubt about it.

Won't you take a improved Ash than the one is playing right now?

This is a bonus. He will improve his English(not every one in India speak Hindi u know) may be...

Finally, the Bong Connection? (http://blogs.cricinfo.com/iplbuzz/2008/02/ashraful_and_rafique_to_join_i.php)
<!--Posted by Sriram Veera at 6 hours, 33 minutes ago (http://blogs.cricinfo.com/iplbuzz/2008/02/ashraful_and_rafique_to_join_i.php) in

Players from every Test-playing nation barring England, whose season overlaps with the IPL. And, strangely, Bangladesh. You’d have thought at least a couple of them would come in handy in the big-hitting format, and perhaps pull in the crowds in Kolkata. Well, that may yet happen: The Delhi Daredevils have been in talks with Mohammad Ashraful, the Bangladesh captain, and could sign him up soon. "The talks are on," TA Sekhar, part of the Delhi management, told Cricinfo. "It has not been finalised yet." There’s also a bit of red tape to be untangled - the approval of the Indian and Bangladesh boards is pending – but it’s not likely to pose a huge problem for Ashraful who, if the Bangladesher Khela website is to be believed, turned down an offer of approximately US$1.5 million from the Indian Cricket League.

Meanwhile, Kolkata may yet get a star from opar Bangla (across the border). Mohammad Rafique, the left-arm spinner who has announced his retirement, says he has got feelers from Kolkata – and it may be an offer he can’t refuse. "Shah Rukh Khan [who owns the Kolkata team] called and asked me to play for his team. I was just awestruck by the call from my favourite hero,” Rafique was quoted in the Khaleej Times. "I told him I would be available after the South African series. Sourav Ganguly’s brother and the team’s agent have been keeping in touch with me. We will have final talks after the series.”

I will be more than happy if Rafique plays for Kolkatta, he deserves it more than anyone else.

I think rafiq is going to be more useful than ash in this format. His lusty hitting and nagging spinners will make him an important player in the kolkatta team. Bangladesh couldnt use him properly. the money will help as well.
