View Full Version : Who should play in the last two ODI'S/ The logic of three similar SLA bowlers

The team has to be cautious with blooding too many new/youngsters all at once. Our middle order collapsed through three new players today; raqibul, ghosh, mosharaf. So it was heavily dependent on openers and ash and shaqib. I think its wise to blood ghosh but keep some experience, mabe:

Tamim
Shariar nafeez
Ashraful
nazimuddin
Junaid Siddique
Shaqib
Reza
Ghosh
Mortaza
Shahadat
Rasel

I feel this team could trouble SA. 3 sla BOWLERS SEEMS STUPID. At best maybe two. But they are too same, too costly and not wicket takers. Shaqib is best out of razzaq and mosharaf anyway, more economical and takes wickets. Reza bols well and can bat well too. He'd be the fourth seamer. By putting ash at no.3 and shaqib at 6, it balances the team with experience at top and middle order. Reza and mortaza can clear the ropes as hard hitting lower order batsmen with ghosh the man to maintain kower order with singles and two's. We can't keep playing with two seamers and ineffective THREE SLA bowlers, its not taking wickets and adding to the tail!

Keep the same squad for the 2nd ODI. Ashraful at #3, Rakib at #5 and Sakib at #6.

And I hope the same XI will play in 3rd ODI, too. Mashrafee can come back in the XI for Ireland series, and we may try Nazim there if necessary.

At least two pacer is minimum for every match in any form of cric. Russel should come in place of a SLA/Spinner. 4 full time specialist bowlers are must. Let the 6 batsmen + Wk take care batting. Adding another disgusting half batsman and removing a bowler is weakenin the attack and hardly improving the batting.

Wheather we put a small total or a large total, we need a strong attack to contain/bowl them out. We can't afford to weaken bowling.

To me South Africa played better against our spinners vs. our batsman against their spinners. I thought we were strong against spin, but we struggled to cope with Paul Harris's spin. Which is really spin. I thought pace was our main problem, now spin is a problem too. Are we really improving??

Sorry but Rubel seems to me ordinary with slow turn and he has got problem with length also but still I would like to see him playing all 3 coz when you pic a new bowler for a spot for veteran like Rafiq u should give him enough chance. That's what Aussie used to do.

Sakib bowled well though got out foolishly. Razzak didn't click with new bowl its not easy. Ash should've tried Shahadat with new ball coz white ball's shine keep only 10 over and reversing with red not necessarily reversing with white also same. Ash also did some terrible decision regarding power play. Last two were not needed at that time.

So Rubel should continue with, Razzak is our ODI specialist and Roqibul should replaced by Reza/Nazim (I prefer Reza)

what ur shout?

i just knew three players with same style of bowling wouldn't work; we already have two sla bowlers so why did we even bring Mosaraf? i have few question maybe u guys can help.
Q 1: What was wrong with Riyad or Reza (better batsman then Rubel)?
Q2: Why Mashrafe had to sit out? Now that Rajib and Rasel went wicketless; will the selector drop them for next game to bring new players like Rubel Hussain, Sajidul Islam (anything is possible from our selectors)?
Q3: Wasn't Junaid supose to be the slagger of BD ? ( I watched all 4 ODI that he played; this guy looks scared/nervous/confused)

Suggestions for next matches:
*Mashrafe must come back and management should quit thinking that the spinners will dominate the SA lineup ( I think they have better spin option than us)
**Ashraful and few other players should quit talking big in front of the media and focuse more on the game.

Tamim
zunaid
nazimuddin
ashraful
shahriar nafees
shakib
mahmudullah riyad (:-*)/ Reza
dhiman gosh
razzak
shahadat

i think we've seen what we had to see of rubel, and i know it will be a bit harsh to leave him out after first match performance but we cannot afford to be sympethetic to players, we MUST WIN:flag:

stick to the same team! the illusion of greener pastures on the other side has been plaguing our cricket for far too long. if you brought these guys in, at least give them a few games to prove themselves. if any changes have to be made, a swap between farhad and mosharraf is the only one i would want to see.

Smith and Gibbs are the only two players in SA11 who can play left arm spin.
I am sure all of u would agree abt Smiths ability and Gibbs was the only batsmen who played well during the WC match against Bangladesh. So it all adds up.

So I really don seee y not we use 3 spinners again.

The team we had yesterday is just fine - 7 batsmen with Dhiman and Roqibul both capable of supporting more aggressive Ash, Tamim and Nafees.
Tamim, Roqibul and Junaid got out from the shots they should not have played, but it was the pressure. I believe if our players can learn a litle more patience that would have given us 50 more runs, thatis 230 which is defendable.
Ash's captaincy is questionable but only for yesterday. I did not understand why he gambled with playijng razzak early for a breakthrough.
Ash is also not performing with the bat.
Nel was vicious. We could have had a much competetive match if Ash and Shakib did not fall in quick successions.

I will keep my faith in the team for the 2nd ODI to bounce back and that would be a consolation for this series - there is no accomplishment so far to cherrish!!!

When

1) Five of the top 6 Batsman fails...
2) All (Except one) specialized Batsman fails
3) You have four specialized bowlers who all fails to deliver
4) Take too much risk in bowling composition with only plan A ( and chance of no plan B or plan C)

Then sh*ts like this will continue to happen.

Most of the specialized batsman (whose only job is to score some runs) failed

Too long Tail in Batting order for ODI team

Only two FBs. One failed, therefore there was no choice but to bring the spinner too early. No Farhad or Aftab or a 3rd FB Allrounder to have a plan B.

Too much trust on unproven Mosharaf and Razzak (who also failed)

Adding another specialized batsman Rokibul (mainly suited for test rather than ODI) to hide our weakness of our 5 five batsman sacrificing another all rounder slot like Farhad who can not only bowl but bat with much better SR and average.

Adding three openers but still fail to produce stability in the top.

Our Superstar Ash continue to fail to deliver both stability and firepower.

Sakib going one step backward rather than one step forward.

Shahadat's failure in ODI

Finally without competition for the 1st time, Razzak is too relaxed and failed to deliver with the ball.

Poor boy Mosharaf, suddenly realized the difference between fact to fiction....welcome back to real world. !!!!

Bottom line....

Top order need to deliver. OR need to find alternative. Front loading with too many specialized batsman will not work.

We cannot effort to sacrifice the Allrounder position. IN ODI they are the most valuable position. In needed, we need to substiture one all rounder with another all rounder... not with a specialized batsman or a bowlers.
We cannot back load with too many specialize bowlers.
Instead of looking for miracle and adding completely new players, we need to recognize and reward players who are contributing already but for some reason they are ignored. Players like Farhad have to be in the team.

We need Farhad Reza in place of Roqibul/Moshraf Hossain for the next match. He can bowl few overs and bat well at 7/8.

Roqibul is good for Tests only. His strike rate was a problem before for OneDays and I guess he still has it.

Mosharaf was very nervous. Actually all 3 new comers were very nervous.

Well, isn't it a tad early?

You're bound to be, when you come in at a losing position on your debut. Which is why we shouldn't be debuting anyone until we have a group of players performing relatively consistently.

Junaid is a good batsman but he is not for ODI. Shahriar Nafees should come to open with T I KHAN. Both of them are attacking opening batsmen and both of them can play aggressively which is required during the power play. They don't miss out too many balls to score runs.

My team for 2nd ODI:

1. T I KHAN
2. S Nafees
3. M Ashrafool
4. R Hassan
5. S Hassan
6. F Reza
7. D Ghosh
8. A Rajjak
9. M Mortaza
10. M Rubel ( deserve another chance )/Shahadat
11. S Rasel

I know Siddons and the dumb selectors will not drop J Siddique and they are bloody scared of playing 3 pacers ! In my main XI there are 4 pacers by the way. :o

Ash made an experimental decision to bowl SLAs during powerplays, it was not the fault of the SLAs that his plan did not work. Also, it won't be fair to blame any of the rookies for yesterday's debacle where experienced players also failed.

Anyway, I still think the best combination for us is the team that Asif bhai proposed before the first ODI, may be with a different batting order -

Tamim
Zunaed
Shahriar
Ashraful
Shakib
Dhiman
Farhad
Razzak
Shahadat
Mosharraf
Rasel

Yesterday, Dhiman looked too afraid to play his shots or too jittery to play them properly. I think it will help him to bat from #6 slot where he will have proper batsmen before and after him. Also, Reza's batting style makes him a better candidate for #7 slot.

Mosharraf has not shown the batting prowess to keep #8 slot, so I would drop him at #10.

Yes, I know its too early to say it. But he did have this problem before and he started correcting it in the NCL this year. But now he is the team and he needs to settle here. I don't want to see him getting dropped but I guess we need an pace bowling allrounder in Mirpur.

Most of the debutants get so nervous. So its normal. And that's why I said in many threads that we should give them time to settle. We cannot just say drop this kid drop that kid just by judging one single match.

We have to play these 15-17 players for the next 2/3 yrs straight. And rotate them in matches. I'm sure we will see good performances from them if we can stick to the plan.

Junaid's weakness is exposed to Saffers. I think he can be replaced for Farhad. That case SN can open with TI and Rakibul at number three putting an open spot for Farhad at five. ASH gets back to his best position of four.
Farhad's medium pace can be useful as spinners are not so effective.

Murad
March 9, 2008, 03:32 PM
Ashraful also defended the decision to leave out ace paceman and vice-captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

“Look, it doesn’t matter whether you are the captain, vice-captain or the number one player in the side, if you don’t perform sooner or later your place will be under threat. We had to drop Mashrafe because of team balance. We wanted to go in with three spinners and (Abdur) Razzak would have opened the bowling with new ball bowler (Syed) Rasel anyway. That was the plan. Rasel has been very steady over the last year or two and has given less than 40 runs in most matches while bowling his full quota of overs. Shahadat (Hossain) is in good form which he showed in the Test series and also in New Zealand.”

Drop Rubel and bring in Farhad. we're a pacer short.Open with Shahadat and rasel. It's bad luck for Rubel.Maybe try him in Ireland series.
Zunaed should bat down the order for next two matches. Seems like SA knows his weakness.

I havn't seen farhad any effective with the ball. Some time he was a little with bat. What's the point of taking him dropping a bowler? we managed only 1 wk in the last ODI. How can we forget that.

Shahadat, despite his Test form, came back with his usual ODI stuff - expensive and ineffective. He's a lock for a Test squad, but he needs more time for ODIs. Mashrafee can come back. The benching should've hurt his ego well enough to fire him up. If he does, watch out Saffers. The 3 SLAs are always there to follow.

Hence, same team with just that only change (I hope), although I'd wanna get Farhad play in place of Mosharraf, but I suppose the spinner who's been slated to fill Rafique's void can have more matches to settle down.

I guess you answered your own question. What worse Farhad can do as a bowler than what they did in 1st ODI? If he gets just one wicket, he can equal all the wicket that 4 spcialized bowlers plus one all rounder got in 1st ODI.

Plus if he can score 20 odd runs, he will match runs of all runs scored by three (of the top five) batsman in ist ODI.
