Why is Malinga NOT playing?

BTW, it's 137-1 now, watching live on Ten Sports, and Malinda Warnapura's just as good as I thought he'd be ... :)

The pitch isn't offering much to the Windies bowlers, but Taylor managed to take BD basher MVD, and the SLA Sulieman managed to turn the ball on occasion.

SL will win this one BIG Inshallah, with Sanga also looking good in the middle.

Srilanka are batting too cautiously or should I say sensibly. This is the middle of second day with no weather disraption till now and they have managed to score 384/6.

DS bites the dust ... gadha! ... excellent catch taken really low by PJ. What a great WK he IS !

46-2, Samuels is in ... 4 right away, eased down to TM ... 50-2

Good over from Magina Thilan Thushara Mirando, what a great bowling pipeline the Lankans must have.

19.2 Mirando to Smith, OUT, Thushara gets the first breakthrough, Thushara lands that just outside off and gets it to straighten, the ball keeps lower than Smith expected and a lazy waft away from his body results in a thin edge to Prasanna Jayawardene. There was no doubt about that edge

DS Smith c HAPW Jayawardene b Mirando 14 (43b 0x4 0x6) SR: 32.55

If Sarwan & Samuel dont build a big partnership they will be in trouble.
This pitch in Providence Guyana is spin friendly as we have already found out from Bangladesh V Saffers last year.
I can imagine Murali is licking his finger with Big Grin on his face and pair of eyes that is bigger than cricket ball. That is a frightening sight for any batsmen.

Right you are MC, although I'm not so sure about Marlon, as gifted as he is and as capable as he can be.

Chandra will do better as always.

Interesting how their Tushar(a) looks vaguely like a thinner version of our Monju ... dur shaumporker cousin mone-hauy.

Ash, Marlon and Pakistan's Imran Nazir are all like that.

And he's GONE ! Tushara gets another one.

58-3 and Chandra's in.

If the Lankans can break this partnership before it forms, they'll have this match in the bag by lunch on day 5 at the latest.

Sohel

25.1 Mirando to Samuels, OUT, poor shot by Samuels... Thushara drifts really wide outside off and gets it to shape away, Samuels stays rooted to the crease and tries to glide that wide of the slips, he gets a thick edge to Prasanna who falls to his right and cups it with both hands. It was not a wicket-taking delivery, just a very poor shot

MN Samuels c HAPW Jayawardene b Mirando 5 (24m 19b 1x4 0x6) SR: 26.31

There you go MC ... :)

hmm!! Fernando, Malinga, Maharoof, Nuwan Kulasekara, Ruchira Perera, Amerashinge, Dammika Prasad, Pradeep Jayaprakashdaran.... ar koto??

Bummer. I saw him bat rather well in the Stanford 20/20. Wavell did OK too. I feel he needs to come back and rekindle that opening partnership with the Caribbean Sehwag.

DS is really ordinary as is Parchment.

67-3, trailing by 409 and not looking too hot.

99/4

Now its only a matter of time

Sohel

116-5 and Murali's looking murderous.

It's just a matter of time until Ryan eats it, and just as I type this, a nicely driven 4 from him off a rare loosener from the Master.

Nicely timed off side 4 from RRS, he plays Murali well with that front footwork of his on fullish deliveries.

Really focused backfoot play too.

134-5, he inches towards that 10th text 100.

Sohel

A bit of reverse swing from Thushara. It was nice to see how that yorker came back into the batsman.

Im usually a late sleeper.
Whats your excuse Sohel bhai?

Sohel
March 24, 2008, 12:52 PM
Late sleeper too, but an early riser as well. Don't need more than 4 hours, never have Mashallah.

Also waiting for Sarwan's 10th test 100. He's one of my favorite players. Good to see him staring to hit his peak range, ages between late 20s to mid 30s. Met the cat when he was in Dhaka. Really humble and unassuming guy ... :)

Rabz
March 24, 2008, 12:56 PM
Not an early riser, but never late at work. :)
I just wake up when i need to.

Coming to your points,i've long believed Sarwan should have been the one to carry the torch left by Lara.

He is like our Ashraful. Not at his true potential.

Sohel

Herath has been around for a while.

Kapugedara is still in the team, just not playing this match I think.

Lankans are very particular about their starting XI because they scout the opposition in great detail, and take the conditions into account.

He scored :duck: , 10, 14, 50, 1*, 63, 13, 37, 1, 5 and 27 in 11 test innings, averaging 22.10

In 23 ODI innings, he has averaged 16.13 with scores of 22, 3, 38, 1, 9, :duck: , 13, 16, 1, 50, 1, 1, 38, 10*, 28, 20, 15, 7, :duck: , 26, 1, 57 and 2.

Similar to our young players without the benefit of playing too many minnow sides I'd say ... :)

Gayle was selfish and very stupid. He didn't do what a captaion should always do.

He only scored in 4s and gave the next over to the new batmen. And all of them got out.

Great effort from Gayle and his Caribbean Kings ... :applause:

I few more (usual) overs of Chandra in the middle, and the match would've been saved.

My Lankans boys, led by the GREAT Vaas, delivered the goods when it mattered the most, ONCE AGAIN. Although Thushara had a good match, they missed Malinga and Fernando badly I'd say. Herath proved why he has been around for so long without managing to consolidate his place.

Great stuff from Malinda Warnapura and good, consistent knocks from RR Sarwan.

Captain Gayle led from the front in the second innings, and Mahela once again showed how he'll probaly go down as one of the top test captains the game has seen by the time he retires.

Looking forward to a great series ... :)

Had chandurpaul scored a little the match could have been saved. Also Samuels, D Smith big disappointment. Nevertheless, great fight by the WI tail and Gayle.

The other side of the coin:
SL deserved their victory. I thought they had to get the opposition to follow-on in order to win the match. I was wrong. Next matches they need more fire power in their bowling. 2 100's and 3 50's in the first innings, wow!! We can't match that in a series, heck couple of series. That shows how far behind we are.

The captain led from the front. As a batsman I know Jayawardene is better than Ranatunga, but as a captain he is still behind. The match results are favorable to him cause he has better supporting cast.

I have seen Gayle long enough (all his career actually) to know he got game and understands cricket very well. The situation against SL is: last test they are behind 0 - 1. SL posted 270+. Ehsan bhaia which game you are talking about? The second test? This was far from being in their hands with Murali and Vass in opponents corner. Yes, SL is missing Malinga, Fernando, Maharoof. Still they are a superior side. (I wonder if we could lone them for our domestic cricket for a year or two)

Mizan bhai,
Yes, I am talking about the second test. Although I did not watch the game but the score card does tell me a whole lot of story. SL was 117-5. But WI failed to capitalize on their earlier success of wickets, and a big partnership for the 6th wicket saw SL to 278. WI started good with a RR of 5. Gayle was looking good, but he perished after 45 as he could not control his game. WI did get a few partnerships going on in the top of their batting. They were 137-2 once, but they just could not capitalize on their good start. And now reeling at 258 for 6, still has a deficit of 20 runs.

2nd Test Against SA (http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/match/298802.html) Here's same as well.

In the first Test Against Srilanka, he got duck in the first innings then he batted in the middle order. He was selfish as well as he took singles in the first/2nd ball to give Taylor the strike.

He strikes too much and give his wicket away most of the time after getting well set. You don't expect this from an opener.

I see your point. Is not that what we are searching into Riad. In the past "Mashud" was our poorman's (or more precisley poorfans') Vaas who would consistently suck up time and give us scores somehwere above 20.

Badu from Nepal: "I have always been great fan of WI cricket. Due to the time difference, the start of test matches in carribean makes it about 9pm out here.Lara's 153* aganist aussies was the day previous to my science final exams. I used to stay awake till 4 in the morning and then go to school at seven. What's happening these days is so sad, I feel WI players don't take enough pride to play for their nation, atleast they don't show it in their action ?? I wish they could have justified my utmost desire to see them do well. The thing I love about Windies is their flair, they can score 100 in ten overs with all wickets intact and be allout for 120 ten overs later. Go on Windies and atleast win this match for me :-)"

Here I dedicate Badu my 5000th post. :bravo:

He talks big, so it is good that he did not get a first series win in the WI. BTW, it was 2 Guyanese who take care of the batting.
