Ind VS SA-Final Test @green park,Kanpur (11-15 apr)

- Graeme Smith has won the toss and South Africa will bat first. No surprise!!
- The big news is Dhoni was at the toss for India which means that Anil Kumble is not fit. Dhoni is incidentally the first wicketkeeper to lead India in a Test.
- So far SA is up 1-0 in the 3 test series. According to CI the pitch has been tailored for spin.
- South Africa have named an unchanged XI from the Ahmedabad Test.

India team
V Sehwag, W Jaffer, R Dravid, SC Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, *MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, S Sreesanth, I Sharma, PP Chawla

South Africa team
ND McKenzie, *GC Smith, HM Amla, JH Kallis, AG Prince, AB de Villiers, MV Boucher, M Morkel, PL Harris, DW Steyn, M Ntini

match started. eventful first over and McKenzie survive from a good LBW shout.

0.4 Sreesanth to McKenzie, no run, loud shout for lbw after McKenzie doesn't offer a shot, the ball jags back into the right-hander and hits him on the pad, he was on the front foot, Asad Rauf says not out and the ball might have missed leg stump, replays show the ball would have just clipped leg, close call for McKenzie

so far no luck for india.
South Africa 57/0 (17.0 ov)

Piyush Chawla comes on to bowl his legspinners. He's the second youngest cricket to play Test cricket for India after Tendulkar. He's the local lad today as well, bowling from over the wicket.

When all else fails, play the host card (with the pitch). While BD still doesn't have enough skills to win matches regularly, we should learn a thing or two from our neighbors about using the hosting privileges to our advantage (spin against SA, NZ, etc). The problem then would be, players like Grant Flower would take 6-8 wickets in one innings. *sigh*. Let's see how the pitch plays today.

But Tehsin, its not only India that BD has to learn from.Look no furthur than BD's last tour, NZ.They are natorious in preparing bouncy, fast paced pitches.Same with SA, or for that matter evry country.

None prepares pitches to its disadvantage, thats the beauty of test cricket I guess.A touring team has to overcome all odds if it has to win a Test..but again what matters is class ...You would not expect a turner in SA will you

Grant Flower was not a bad bowl ..but I am surprised that he got 6-8 wickets in India against India.I have not seen any spinner being effective in India, be the 'Great' Warne or Murali who have averages that are below par to say the least.

I hope India can draw this series ..it would be a huge step backward if India cannot keep its second spot. But again SA looks awsome ..probably deserve the spot.

SA didn't bowl well in the first session today. Length was not right, they have missed a few half chances. If they don't get disciplined fast enough, Ind is smart enough to capitalize, they r no BD.

But SA doesnot make a lot of mistakes, hope they come back hard after the Lunch. Ind have to bat the last day here, so SA has a little advantage. SA deserves to win the series.

Dhoni rewards Green Park pitch curator (http://cricket.indiatimes.com/Dhoni_rewards_pitch_curator/articleshow/2950595.cms)
</ARTTITLE>PTI

<!--google_ad_region_start=article-->KANPUR, April 14: A grateful Mahendra Singh Dhoni sent a note of thanks and Rs 10,000 to Green Park stadium's pitch curator for preparing the turning track that helped the hosts clinch the series-levelling win over South Africa in the third Test here.

Curator Shiv Kumar said he was pleasantly surprised to receive a personal note of thanks and the cash reward from the stand-in Test skipper after the hosts beat the Proteas inside three days on a crumbling pitch to level the series 1-1.

Kumar said regular Test skipper Anil Kumble, who missed the decider due to a groin injury, also came down to meet and thank him for preparing the "spinner-friendly" pitch after the match.

Off spinner Harbhajan Singh, who won the man of the series award for scalping 19 wickets, also met Kumar to praise and thank him.

However, Kumar maintained that the Green Park wicket was a sporting one and it was unfair to say that it only aided the slower bowlers.

"The South African batsmen just couldn't get used to it (the pitch) and were unsure of how the ball would behave," he said.

Meanwhile, BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla denied that the money was a 'reward' for the curator.

"It is a general practice to give some money to the curator so that he can distribute it among the groundsmen. This money is contributed by the players and given to the curator," he said.

"Even when India lost the match in Ahmedabad, the cricketers gave tips to the curator. It was not any special case in Kanpur," Shukla said.

"If giving money to the curator ensured a win, we would have won all the matches," he added.
