View Full Version : THIS IS MURDER OF CRICKET. end the ipl immediately

if the ipl cant be ended, ban >160 scores. for cricket to do well, there has to be a even contest between bat & ball. its not about 20/20. and i hate this 20/20 format

also, in the 20/20 wc, scores like 150+ were big totals and easily proved defendable. we beat pak after making 141 & thrashed sa after making 157 & won the final against pak after making 157. also, even in icl, scores like 140+ proved defendable and a total >165 was chased only once in over 3 tournaments. out here in ipl, scores of 160-170 r being chased down easily. the lowest score to be defended here is 178 showing the extent to which bowlers have been murdered

the fact that players like jaffer r hitting clean 6s tells a lot about the ipl's standard. the boundaries have been brought well in & even top-edges r going for 6s. the bowlers have been murdered in order to provide a joke of a tournament with farcical 4s & 6s being hit

its time the icc stepped in & banned 20/20 cricket immediately & brought back the odis. earlier, hitting a 6 used to be a big thing for a batsman, now they have become as common as hitting 4s. even scoring 80+ in last 10 overs of odis was considered great achievement, here even 160(twice of 80 in 10 overs) is considered bad which is just murder of cricket whereas even in 20/20 wc, scores of 150 were considered good totals

the organisers should know that the most exciting 20/20 matches have been those ones with <150 scores & thats what should be looked to be provided in ipl. in ipl, the pitch standards have been very poor & players like jaffer hitting clean 6s just shows the quality of cricket in ipl

the most exciting 20/20 matches were those which had <160 scores. thats what made the 20/20 wc exciting. the most thrilling match had the score of only 141 & was tied. even the icl was exciting and became a big hit as scores of 130-140 even proved winnable. scores of 150 were match-winning scores & proved like 300 in odis. and in the 20/20 wc & icl, we saw a better contest between bat & ball

in ipl, the bowlers have been murdered. too many 200+ scores. even huge scores of 160+ r being chased down easily & fielding standards have deteriorated. even indias top fielders like yuvraj, kaif & irfan pathan have dropped some very easy catches & the outfielding has been very poor. what should have been just 1-2 runs is getting to be 4. cricket has to be a contest between bat & ball, not just bat & bat

end this slam-boom-bangness now & its time to ban 20/20 cricket. lets bring back the odis. if 50 overs seem to be too long, then lets make them 40 overs & 6-6.5 hours long. with matches being of 6-6.5 hours, we can squeeze 2 odis in a day without any time overlap. and if 20/20 has to be there, then 160+ scores need to be banned and pitches made to suit bowlers with fielding standards improved

Enjoy the game man, relax.

I don't like T20. :)

T20 has its share of pros and cons. Pros are that its more fun packed than ODI. ODi gets very dragging between 16-40 overs, unlike T20. Cons are that it "footballises" cricket and making it like baseball.

People said the same, when ODIs were introduced. If we look back today, we can see a lots of changes in cricket. All are positives. More runs being scored in test cricket and at the same time bowlers have learnt to improve upon their skills and variations.

Now 350-360 is likely to become chaseable scores in next 4/5 years. Bowlers are expected to make innovations and study the players more closely to exploit minor weaknesses of even the near perfect batters etc etc. Every skills will improve.

Life has gone fast and the new format will create new fans who loves speed in the game, who never liked cricket for being too much time consuming. That's bringing more money into the game for it's development.

Whatever is happening is definitely good for the game.

Personally I find Test to be horrendously boring. At least ODI is 50 overs, Test is (50 * 2) * 5 and after 5 days hard work it still ends up in draw or thanks to the rain. Only the Ashes and India vs Australia games are worth watching.
