NZL won the toss and batting in what looks like a very good wicket.
England squad unchanged from first test. NZL one change O'brien comes in for Southee.

England wins by 6 wicket.
This test had all the exceitement you can imagine.
NZl dominating first 2 and half days. Ross Taylor's century then Vettori's five for
England scraped the follow on target then good all Monty absolutely murdered NZL with 6/37
Target of 294 was record in old trafford. There was few scare at the end but with Vettori not taking any wicket today NZL never looked like the team who bowled Eng out for 202

Congratulation to newly built freddy-less England team, and special thanks to Strauss. Test cricket needed a booster and both ENG and WI are showing some.

Very entertaining test, as they generally are at Old Trafford...which is why the ECB won't allow another Test at this ground for at least another four years...

Monty got MOTM.

I still say Englands short term future will not be good from the point of view of an England fans as the ECB have appointed a poor choice in coach Moores.

Dream test for Anderson. first six wickets for the side. The ashes will be a good series. I don't think England would miss Simon Jones. Sidebottom and Anderson with Board are as formidable as steyn, Ntini and the crazy one (about to burst his jagular vein). With Flintoff firing 80% Australia will have issues.

The two balls with which Anderson took wickets of Redmond and McCullum were unbelievable. Both the batsmen played on the onside and their off stamps were uprooted!!

We are lucky that BD (with Ash, Aft, ..) is not playing at Nottingham today.

I think the Ashes will be a one sided contest with the usual Australian domination.

Simon Jones is trying to make a comeback at the moment. I think you're wrong about Englands pace attack being as good as South Africa's. Sidebottom has looked a little tired in this series, Broad is promising but lacks penetration & Anderson is just having a good test...he won't be able to keep this up. Do you mean Nel, by the way?

England team are back baby.

Until South Africa thrash them later in the summer... /:)

Think IPL......NZL has really sorry future ahead.

The ICC need to step in so NZ don't lose players like Bond in future.

England need 5 wickets in next 2 days. NZL has to score 64 to avoid innings defeat

I think NZ can still win this. Oram is at the crease & Vettori hasn't batted yet. Not sure the decision to enforce the follow was the right thing to do.

Slater582
June 8, 2008, 06:57 AM
Ah, got that wrong.

I'm one of those people who generally thinks you shouldn't enforce the follw on.

This series was always going to be difficult for NZ, unable to pick Bond, without two of their recently retired best batters in Astle & Fleming.

I think How, Flynn & Taylor showed a lot of potential for NZ's future batting. Mccullum, Oram & Vettori offer a very talented lower middle order. Whilst New Zealand look to have a decent bowling attack. If only they could get Bond back.

For England, plusses were Vaughan, Strauss, KP, Ambrose, Broad, Anderson.

Monty & Sidebottom were decent.

Cook, Bell & Collingwood need to wake up.

As, sovik says, on with the ODI series.

Once we used to associate NZL with 11 good players. Now they rely too much on Oram, McCullum and Vettori thats why they will loose.

Where is this new kid Jessy Rider ?

Slater582

Rumour is Oram is still injured. Ryder got drunk & put his hand through a window so has missed the whole tour.

NZL 150/5 need another 158 in next 15 overs
RR is over 10.5

Earlier KP scored a brilliant century. He played couple reverse slog for six those were some unbelievable shots. He looked more like left hander than right hander playing those shots.
Collingwood scored a good 64 and Oais Shah 25 ball 49 just took the game away from NZL.

6 more balls were left to finish the match and umpires called it off. they were playing in the rain for last five overs and now they had to make this decision. New Zealanders must be unhappy with it. considering they needed only 7 more runs

But rain-affected games like that are very difficult to win if you're batting first.
I'm not sure Sidebottom intentionally obstructed Elliott either.
