Two of Bangladesh's most experienced players, Javed Omar and Khaled Mashud, have missed out on new contracts. Their existing six-month contract ended on May 30. Rajin Saleh, Enamul Haque jnr and Nazmul Hossain also haven't been handed fresh contracts.
Meanwhile, the six-month contracts of Tamim Iqbal, Shahriar Nafees, Farhad Reza and Mehrab Hossain jnr have been extended till November 30. The Bangladesh board (BCB) also contracted Nazimuddin, Raqibul Hasan, Dhiman Ghosh, Mosharraf Hossain and Sajidul Islam in the 'Rookie Grade'.
Mashud, Bangladesh's most-capped player with 170 appearances in all formats, last played in the first of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka in June in 2007. Omar and Saleh too haven't featured for Bangladesh in nearly a year: Omar was dropped for the home series against South Africa with the selectors opting for younger opening batsmen.
In December 2007 (http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/bangladesh/content/story/324038.html), the Bangladesh board reduced the duration of the contract from one year to six months for Mohammad Rafique - now retired - Mashud, Omar, Nafees and Saleh.

Nazmul Hossain the one went to NZ?

I feel for Rajin. I think shottrutami choltasey ore shathey. In BD's contest, no one has more determination than him. He may lack the "ummph", flair (in other words, ura dhura batting) others bring but definitely he wasn't given a chance in the past two test series.

No surprise there. There is no point offering contracts to players who are not playing for the team.

ditto :( aftab stole rajin's test spot. i hope aftab does really well in upcoming tests.

i dn't get what's wrong with rajin..he's a really gud test batsman..we r gonna get rid of a player with sum experience n hand a test cap to a rookie with no experience...

I thought Pilot retired from national team?

anyways, find it really unfair on saleh, hes the one of the few batsman who understands test matches well n the BCB may well be on the way to flushing this promising test star down the loo and for what? mehrab hossain jnr? nazimuddin? u gotta be kidding..

OH!!!i just checked Rajin's stats in cricinfo and he scored three consecutive ducks in succession against Sri Lanka last summer!!! so in this sense he definitely deserves rejection(hopefully he improves his game and serves with his brilliant performances for the better)

I still dont think its fair enough to completly disregard him altogether. I dont see the difference between scoring 3 ducks in consecutive innings and scoring 5, 10 and 8 in 3 innings like some of our other batsman in the context of test cricket..
In this form of the game, u gotta stay at the crease and build platforms and most importantly make use of the valuable experience u already have in order to be a success and constantly bringing in rookies for a test game will in no way improve test standard for bangladesh.

Rajin is the man and expect to see him fight back for his rightful place in the team.

JO, Pilot and Rajin have served us well in the past in our gory days,
but our future is with the likes of Ash, tamim, Aftab, Sakib, Raqibul,
when its our glory days

Rajin deserves his place... Aftab does not.
Rajin played 3 terrible innings of late, but look at his earlier scores... in most of the matches he has scored either a half century or close to one at least in one of the innings. That is fairly consistent coming from a bd cricketer. Where as, for people like Aftab, they usually get out below 50, and if they score a 50 they throw their wicket away.
Talk about injustice...

I was actually just checking Aftab's stats... to compare... and here it is:
Aftabs test scores (http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/player/56266.html?class=1;home_or_away=1;home_or_away=2;r esult=1;result=2;result=4;spanmax1=17+Jun+2008;spa nmin1=17+Jun+2003;spanval1=span;template=results;t ype=allround;view=match)...
This guy hasn't got a score above 100 in any game! (combination of 2 innings:o)
He has one half century in total...
I hope he starts scoring soon... or bd is gonna be doomed coz of the "talent" of these kinda players....

For the Aftab fans: No i was not planning to target him alone, but I was using him as a reference point... but after checking his stats he kinda became my target :D

Saleh, who possess the second best test average among Bangladeshi batsmen, was not offered the new contract.

We are turning all uradhura players into JO and Rajin to fill up their vac. So we may not need them in future :)

Rajin has always been treated in a step-motherly manner by selectors and some fans alike. Of course he's no Ashraful in terms of technique and elegance but he is one of the (very) few BD cricketers who knows the value of staying at the crease. What I have always found surprising is that his contributions rarely get noticed, eg. in the 2006 test series against Australia the guy had scores of 67,33,71 & 5 but we were so obsessed with SN's one series (in test) heroics that we seemed to have completely ignored the poor bloke's contributions. Well, I guess some people just never get the "glamour" spotlight.

i am shocked to see what's happening to JO nd Rajin Saleh.i mean, they deserve a spot in the test team atleast,nt SN nd Aftab.

this is injustice to the max.. khaled mashud, JO and rajin really dont deserve this.. they deserve a place in the squad more than SN and aftab.. i dont like the way the bcb treats these players.. its so unfair..

this is just great.. u have a few players with some experience.. and ppl who actually know the price of a test wicket.. ppl who actually try to stay in the crease.. u throw them away.. and replace them with rookies who dont even understand the true meaning of test cricket.. this is fantastic.. just fantastic..

bcb does theses things to save some extra cash in their pockets so they don't have to offer contracts to "extra" players. SHAMEFUL

Serious allegation from a cricketer about the selectors. The reporter didn't release his name but i think its rassell... Anyway read for your self in Bangla though...

So Raihanuddin has some close connection with the selectors ?! Is he from Rafiqul's cricket school ?

From the current batch of incompetent management,, this is not a surprising event. I guess BCB has decided that Bangladesh team must be "Every Young" and continue to have younger players irrespective of the performances or legitamacy to be in a national team. It was unfair to Mashud who performed, it was unfair for Rajin who has always been the hardest worker. But in essence, what else can you expect from a Goru who never did anything great in his whole life and now is in charge of a national team selection? To that goru,, selection means to select someone,,"Ekta Notun mukh dhoror,, otherwise kisher kaj korlam? Abar jodi Major shab latthi lagay?"

Hence, Ode to the vigilant Pilot who flew that sixer at the last over with Akram in the ICC in 1997 which sealed our path today and had to embarrasingly captain for the weakest team to date, Ode to that Belim who was always there holding the fort despite his limitations when wickets were falling left and right, Ode to that Rajin Saleh who took those bouncers on his chest and stll fought and almost delivered a Test win in Multan,,,,I am glad that these players are not part of this loooooooser Bangladesh team; These players played with passion than for a contract (unlike Bashar), these players deserved better but from a Goru led Gordhobh Komittee,, you cant expect anything better, can you?

yeah have to admit this is kind of harsh. pilot is probably still the best choice keeper for all formats except for maybe t20s, rajin is like a rock and could be used well in tests and even ODIs, i mean he's the only decent specialist no.3 in the country atm and the no.3 spot is one of the area's the national team is having trouble with, even if he wasn't going to play he's always good to have as a back up. JO, well i guess his skillset is limited, but he does have one of the better ODI averages of BD batsmen allbeit due to lack of decent performers.

they all have a case for holding a contract, i guess the factor for pilot and JO was mainly age and maybe potential and for rajin is was probably his recent form and style of play....

Form wise all 3 were in trouble. All 3 can get back with this thing called form later, I believe.
