There you go!
Looks like IPL was more than just fun and games.

I wonder who that is!
..remember how Asif was caught with "harmdad" at Dubai!

....may be its just all coincidental.

Read the following from Cricinfo:

Dope scandal
Sample taken at IPL tests positive
Ajay S Shankar
July 13, 2008
A sample taken from random testing at the inaugural season of the IPL has tested positive, IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has confirmed to Cricinfo. This is the first step of the verification process, Modi said, and there are several stages before a player is deemed to have failed the test.

The tests were carried out under the supervision of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), after the IPL adopted the ICC's code on doping. "Two days ago the IPL received a letter from a Swiss agency, mandated by WADA, which said one sample had tested positive," Modi said. "The IPL will follow set procedures from now on."
The first step, he said, is to match the identity of the player with the sample. Next, the player's form, filled out before the match, will be scrutinised for any pre-declared or prescribed drug; if that matches the drug found in the sample, the matter ends there.

If not, the player is informed and a 'B' sample is sent for testing, Modi said. If that, too, is positive the matter will be taken up by the IPL's drugs tribunal, comprising a leading doctor, a former cricketer and a lawyer. The committee will study the issue and take a decision, for which there will be a separate appeals tribunal.
"This is just the procedure," Modi said, "as of now we are at the first stage where one sample has tested positive. The issue is now with the IPL's medical committee. The identity of the player will matter only after we check on the pre-declared drugs."

So we don't know who this is?

Not yet, apparently.
I dont think they can name the person before confirmation.
For that, they need to carry out test with a second sample.
Whoever it is, i wont be surprised if its one of the paki players.

Let's guess what's going to happen: A lifetime ban on Asif, Ban reduced to 5 years, Then reduced to 18 months and then he'll walk away free all in the space of 2 months. The PCB and the Paki cricketers are a joke.

What a shame!!

ICC should consider more frequent drug Tests to make sure players from any country are not taking any undue advantage.

Hopefully we will come out clean and the dirty fishes will be caught.

Once a cheat...
Always a cheat.

You let them walk out once, they'll do it again.

Asif is nothing but disgrace for the whole pakistan.

first, they catch him doing steroid.
clears him.
then he's caught with drugs in intl airport.
they rescue him.

...now this. Well this was preceding the airport incident offcourse.
He'd done it in India and carried some sample to Dubai obviously.

....total disgrace.
He should be banned for life.

Just punishing him wont help much. IMO ICC have to take some strong action against PCB also, because I think they may have some kind of support to their players to do so.

Glad to see IPL has caught Asif before PCB could sweep his case under the carpet. ICC needs to stomp on PCB for its lenient treatment of drug users.

PCB finally came to its senses and has decided not to defend Asif this time.

PCB distances itself from Asif

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday distanced itself from dope offender Mohammad Asif, saying that the fast bowler is now on his own.

Asif faces a possible life ban for testing positive a second time at a random test conducted during the Indian Premier League in May. IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi confirmed on Monday that the 25-year-old Sheikhupura-born player, who represented Delhi Daredevils in the IPL, failed the dope test.

The IPL came to the conclusion after comparing the result from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-approved laboratory in Switzerland with the data collected by IDTM, the Sweden based independent agency which organised the anti-dope testing in accordance with the WADA code.

Since it is Asif's second offence, the Pakistani fast bowler can face a life ban for violating Article 10.2 of the WADA Code. For his first offence in 2006, he was handed out a one-year ban.

A top PCB official said that unlike in the past, the board will not provide any help to the 25-year-old player if he is handed out a ban.

"Our policy about dope offenders is very clear," said Shafqat Naghmi, PCB's chief operating officer. "The board will not provide any kind of help to Asif and he will have to fight his case himself," he added.

Two years back, the board had threw its weight behind Asif when he tested positive for banned anabolic steroid nandrolone along with fellow pacer Shoaib Akhtar during the ICC Champions Trophy in India. The board hired expensive lawyers and managed to get the bowlers off the hook even after they were banned by an inquiry committee set up by the PCB itself. The board provided legal aid to Asif when he was detained in Dubai for possession of a banned drug last month.

But Naghmi said that the board has had it with Asif. "We cannot afford any more negative publicity," he said.

Naghmi said that the PCB has also decided to drop Asif from Pakistan's preliminary squad for this September's Champions Trophy. "Asif has failed a dope test so he cannot play for Pakistan till that matter is resolved," he said.

The fast bowler can now request the IPL to analyze his B-sample and once it is done the player has to appear before the IPL Drug Tribunal comprising Ravi Bapat, Sunil Gavaskar and Shirish Gupte.

Asif, who was nursing an injury on his bowling arm when he came to play in the IPL, had not applied for Therapeutic Use Exemption, which perhaps could have saved him.

The WADA officials arrived in India from Sweden on May 18 when the 44-day IPL was moving towards its final phase to do random dope tests.

A day before the WADA testing, Asif sat out of the game against Kings XI Punjab and wasn't part of the team in subsequent three games. The reason given for Asif's absence was an elbow problem and the player was found wearing a strap around his elbow as his team mates continued to practice.

Later, the injury was described as non-serious though Asif hasn't played much competitive cricket since then because of his stay at the Dubai detention centre.

On the subject note,
Does "doping" means only limiting to weed? or any other substances as well?

Cuz if its just for weed, i've always thought the "cheaters" should actually get some prize for just showing up and putting the effort after a nice joint.

It takes a lot to do that, you know.

Instead of munching and bumping on the couch, which stoner would want to get out there and ran around?

Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif was on Friday banned for one year by the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a positive dope test. Asif's agent Salman Ahmed confirmed the ban and said Asif will now concentrate on his training in a bid to play for Pakistan later this year. Asif has been banned for a year, starting Sept 15, 2008, which means he would be eligible to play international cricket ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy which is scheduled in Pakistan from September 24.
