Is the ball already hit or about to be hit?
Why the keeper is bare handed or is he a fieder at slip?

West Indies batsman Brian Lara hits the ball while Zimbabwean wicketkeeper Stuart Matsikenyeri looks on, during the first day of their second five day cricket test match in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003. (AP Photo)

He has to be some fielder... Taibu is the Zim keeper, aint he??? The ball my guess is abt to be hit...

November 14, 2003, 09:30 AM
i think the ball has been already hit...it bounced on the ground and is on its way up and back towards the bowler...after a defensive push...no?

November 14, 2003, 10:22 AM
The ball has already been hit (his eyes are off the ball) and that's a slip fielder (no gloves).

What bat does Lara use?

November 15, 2003, 06:37 PM
Lara used to brag with his bat...it was a Lara 375 but I think he used something different for the World Cup. I'd say he's pushed the ball to mid-off and the guy in the background is leg-slip

Is that the ball in the top-left corner?

Definitely Maradona, looks like he turned damn old.

November 16, 2003, 09:46 AM
And Faaaaat.

November 16, 2003, 10:36 AM
doesnt matter he is fat or old... he is still maradona... One of the greatest things ever to happen to football... and having said that I stand tall to defend him from any anti-maradona comments :D :saint:

P.S. I get defensive when it comes to Maradona... had to hear so much crap abt him all my life... Its hard for me to hear bad stuff abt this guy... :( Not saying u guys said abythibg bad (yet)... but supporting maradona usually brings in a lot of negative replies from others...

"Not saying u guys said abythibg bad (yet)..."

Diego is a coke-snorting fatso, a flawed genius who scored the two best goals in the history of football.

There ya go.

Is it something like u had to say that because I mentioned that I get defensive???

He wasnt flawed... he was perfect... And it wasnt only the 2 goals... he was the best thing that happened to argentine football...

Yes. I was playing with you. Maradona is my favorite player too. But I still think badly of his coke snorting habits. ;)

I guess I am what one wud call a blind supporter of the dude...

Is that the 'hand of God' on which he is sporting the watch? I felt bad for Maradonna when he was repeatedly fouled everytime he would touch the ball during WC. That feeling has subsequently been adequately ameliorated when it bacame apparent that he fisted the ball in to the net in an international game and claimed it was the 'hand of God.' The man, is quite frankly: a cheat. Perhaphs it was the Coke that made him religious.

As far as his soccer abilities go, he was one of the very best to ever play the game. I still think Luis Menotti was wrong not to play him in WC '78, just because he was 17. With Maradonna in the mix with the likes of Kempes, Tarrantini and Pasarella, the Dutch would have been demolished 5-1 not 2-1.

The ball has definitely been hit and that is no slip fielder, that is the fielder at short leg!

And the answer is:

Does the ball go up that high that close if it is indeed already been hit? Lara's high bend elbow which is still pointing at the ball and the top of his bat which is above the ground make the pic about to hit more likely than already been hit.

Stuart Matsikenyeri is a batsman and spin bowler. Yes, he looks like in a leg slip position. His helmet without pad n gloves supports it.

Chinaman Bhai... thats exactly what I was thinking :D

u shud post some more of these pics... its good fun and is always good to analyse cricketing tactics and situation... and make different threads for each one... :D

Lara hit the ball already and it has bounced off the ground. And that guy is in short leg. Lara had come way forward to play the ball (probably off a spinner), defensively.

The ball most probably came off the front pad around the knee roll . It could have also come off the top of the handle or his right arm near the elbow. The fielder is at BACKWARD short leg.

November 22, 2003, 02:47 PM
Actually, the ball coming off the pad looks much more plausible.
