Adding tags to threads has been suspended temporarily. Some users have been abusing this feature. We intend to bring it back in a more usable manner. Thank you.

What was that tagging for to begin with?

Too bad. We want useful tags, not funny two-word comments.

Then there should have been strict guidelines declared. And it has to be in a clear visible place.

So Mr Arnab, somebody abused you in the tags.I was the one who actually enjoying the funny tags. Some of those were actually useful. BC moderation team would soon compete with Khaleda/ Hasina/ Bush II in terms of governance. In which small misstep of general users are punished or threatened to be punished (look at the thread of Bangladesh team jersy) while moderator/ administrator get away by calling names (look Dhaka thread).
Dr Z, Razab Bhai, R_S , Tehsin Bhai, Mahmud Bhai do something before it goes out of control.

thebest, tags are not exactly designed to be funny two/three word text bites to enjoy or to be used as mediums to abuse anybody, be it a player, a team, a coach, or even a forum member. They are supposed to contain category information to help people find threads on a certain topic quicker.

80% of the tags so far were worthless in that regard. It defeats the purpose of the system. Obviously a handful of immature members have been abusing the feature. So we have temporarily turned the feature off. We intend to bring it back, though.

Well, tagging is part of the forum and if anyone has read the forum rules and has common sense, should immediately understand that tagging should not be abused like that. But there's always a few bad apples.

And to add something about "funny tags" mentioned by some others: If having fun is the issue, there are many other ways of having all kinds of fun on the Internet. Google should give you a good number of results. There might even be a site where tagging is unrestricted. Go there and have the fun of your life. Nobody would mind.

So are we all serious individuals with thick glasses here trying to read novels and spend our quality time in such an interesting way?

And then, are we in a site where the admin tells a senior member "There might even be a site where tagging is unrestricted. Go there and have the fun of your life. Nobody would mind." ???

I haven't seen the other admins of BC speak this way. There was only once when Mahmood bhai told a member that s/he can leave, because that member indulged into personal attacks...which in this case wasn't an issue.

To me, this is a very disrespectful post from an admin to the general members. WarWolf had a valid question, and the answer to that was quite immature and disrespectful.

I see one bad apple here.

Very dramatic, Kabir. Has a Reality TV flavor to it. Lots of potential for a nice little subplot to unfold in "Life on BC". All the desperate housewives here should love reading it. :)

This was a BC Admin decision to preserve the original intent of the tag and not let the tags be used to abuse and debase forum quality.

Well Arnab... I don't wanna start any debate or any thing personal here. I just advised some thing which should help maintain the forum better IMO. I think nothing was there in the post which should make any feel offended.

Brother if you (as an administrator, not as a general member) say as a general member I don't have the right to suggest any thing which I feel would be good for the forum then I think I have to re-think about my involvement with BC. So far BC seemed to be maintained by a group of nice persons who gave us the feeling to take BC as our own site. But your answer tells me to think otherwise.

I decided to resign from this thread. Thanks.

I got what you said Warwolf. I just added that it was common sense not to abuse the tags. That's all. No need to be so sensitive.

Maybe this should be bought back seen as though this site is experiencing a ocean of calmness at the moment.

Not people tagging. Tagging in the original annotation sense where you tag content with keywords. That was a different forum software package. We use a different (and more secure) software now.
