all are very good candidates.

i think jaques will but i hope hodge does.

jaques or hughes. marsh hasn't done very much in the longer format plus usually bats middle order in the longer format, klinger at current is just a one season wonder and is really a #3, hodge is a #3 plus age isn't with him and rogers seems to be out of favour with selectors.

if jaques plays well in his NSW comeback then he'll probably be picked ahead of hughes, otherwise hughes will be the one. i guess the selectors could throw a curve ball and bring mike hussey up the order and bring in a middle order batsmen in which case dave hussey would come into the mix but i very much doubt that that will happen.

What happend to Phil Jaque?

He was injured long time back. Is he not fit yet or what? He performed quite well last time he played.

had surgery on his back, he's going to play for the first time this weekend for his grade team then for NSW in a match at the end of january.

I'll put my money on Marsh. The kid has potential despite his recent fall back. It's not easy to replace 17 years of solid cricketing. With today's announcement, Australia has lost one of those key people who along with Warne, McGrath, Langer and Damien Martyn kept Australia on top for last 10 years.

and gilly.

i was disappointed when hayden made his retirement cos i feel he still has so much to give, he was still hitting the cricket ball real hard.

Its either Jaques, or Hughes, however I think they should go with Hughes as he is younger, and the team does need youth.

Jaques and Hughes will both tour I imagine. Jaques should make it if he can prove fitness and form before then but it's touch-and-go.

I, personally, would open with Michael Hussey and put David Hussey or Hodge in the middle order. I doubt the selectors will do that though.

Warner

maybe in another 5 years or so...we haven't seen this guy in ODI but im sure he will have a stellar career

i think we can consider 2 people for test. either phil jacques or shaun marsh.

no but he has opened in odi's.

if any of the middle order opened it would be michael hussey or brad hodge if he came into the team.

and since mike hussey has done so well in the middle order i doubt they'll want to move him, though he has just had a bad patch so i guess it'd be more in the talks atm than it has been in the past (other than when he first came in the team as a replacement opener).

Even Matty hayden of current can't replace the real matty Hayden.

No one will.

for now it'll be jacques, hughes will be groomed to perfection in domestic.

once katich retires, jacques will be the senior partner and hughes will be his student.

Are you sure ? They have a back to back series loss.

Matty is a great player but I hated his attitude .."India a third world country","Obnoxious weed" ..etc etc.I guess when you stop performing on the field you spew out rubbish !!

Matty in his prime was the best operner around..

Oh I am sure. Yes they lost back to back series. One againest India in India who even in thier prime gave them run for their money and other againest Australia playing virtually 6 (Haydo, Lee, Symonds did not deserve their place, Hussy was out of form, who was the spinner) versus 11 due to stupid of their selectors (Haydo, Symonds, Lee, no body spinner would not play two test if the previous regime was there ) and bad luck( S Clarke - their best pacer was injured) and still could have won 3-0 if Dummny did not stand tall in both the matches that SA won.

katich is going to drop down the order for the NSW match and let both jaques and hughes open the batting, can't get much better for the selectors than that. head to head battle coming up.
