So, After winning a nain biting thriller in the final against Bangladesh, Lankan team have arrived Karachi for a 3 match ODI series. I guess it would be another hard fought series between two close rivals.

Sri Lanka all the way. Although I lost respect for them after they sacked Ranatunga and sold their soul to BCCI, I will support them over Pakistan.

January 19, 2009, 03:21 PM
With Akhter back into the picture, with Sohail Tanvir and Afridi, Pakistan might be irrepressible at home. But then again they arent having the service of Yousuf which will surely leave a vacuum in the middle order. Srilanka, on the other hand, looking unpredictable. Top batsman are lacking consistency regardless of being vastly experienced. Kulusekara, Murali and Mendis would be the key in the bowling department for the tourists. I guess it would be a 2-1 in Pakistan's favor.

Pak curators suck!
They have so many fast bowlers but still they make batting paradises all the time.

Not much for the bowlers in these wickets.

Gul gets Dilshan. Playing shots after shots :(.

Sri Lanka seem to have left their batting woes in Bangladesh. Great Start.

71/1 in 9 overs.

Dilshan did a Ashrafullers.. Gave his wicket away!

Beautiful strokes by Jayasuriya. Age doesnt catch up with him !

2 boundaries in that over. 10 runs off it. 81/1 (10)

Yasin.

Dropped !

Iftikhar Anjum to Jayasuriya, 2 runs, Another drop, Shahid Afridi at cover-point is the guilty fielder this time, a rank, bad ball from Iftikhar - a full toss well outside off -and Jayasuriya flays it straight to Afridi but survives

Both Dilshan and Jayasuriya given a life.

Jayasuriya gone for 38. Umar Gul got his 2nd wicket.

And now Jayawardene gone for 1. Rao Iftikhar gets the ball to edge to the keeper.

89/3 (13.4)

"I'm going through a tremendous amount of pressure... My only purpose and wish is to play for my nation Pakistan again, and for that I need to disengage from any other cricket engagements," Asif, who has played 11 tests and 31 one-dayers, said. Asif is so nice and so different than Yousuf..... it is a drama really!

Low target considering the pitch is a beauty to bat on. 65/35 to Pakistan, I would say.

Pakistan - 127 (30)

Salman butt 69
Khurram Manzoor 52

It has been great watching these two bat. No bad shots being played. Singles being nudjed, bad balls being put away. Mature innings - and delight to watch at a time when most batsmen go boom boom.

I think the problem with SL over the years is that they tend to rely too much on the 'shock and awe' factor.Remove that you have a below par team.

It started with Jaya and Kalu's innovative use of the first 15 overs , then the Murali factor followed by Malinga and now Mendis.

BD has done what India could not do , demystify Mendis for the world.Pak is doing even better.Take out Mendis out of the SL attack (or de-mystify him) you have a below par team with a couple of above avg batsmen and an aging Murali.SL needs an overhaul , they need someone inspirational like Ranatunga or Moody , else it is a slippery slope for Lanka

Very poor day in office for Pak opening bowlers. The series decider is awaiting at Lahore, where the pacers might extract some advantage. Keeping fingers crossed for a nail biting encounter.

it is an easy task now for Shoaib Malik. He will score a fifty at test speed and then blame others for the loss. (Shoaib Malik is also out :(, scoring in double figure though. ;) )

For Bangladesh, I seriously want the BCB dropping Ashraful for the next two series. They can make Mashrafe or the fan-boy Mushfiq the captain. It will help in two ways:

1) to open eyes of some blind BD-cricket follwers, who blame each and every loss to Ashraful, though stats-wise he has been the second best in the batting line up.
2) to open eyes of some blind cricket analysts, who wants HB back to defend scores less than 150, through 'intelligent' bowling change and field placements.

Rafique gone, Bashar gone, Pilot dumped, now Ashraful has to to go....

We used to call him Nuwan "no pace only line and length" Kulesekara. It's true, all he has to work with is his accuracy with line and length, getting the best out of his limited abilities like Vaas. He's the perfect replacement for Vaas.

Artcle about the fast bowlers.
http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/pakvsl/content/current/story/387695.html

They list, Kulesekara, Thushara, Maharoof and Dammika Prasad as underrated, unsung heroes of SL bowling. Add Lasith Malinga who will be back for tests against Pakistan, there's always Dilhara Fernando who is probably the fastest Sri Lankan bowler, on his day can run through a line up. Vaas is not retired yet, and I'd like to throw Ishara Amarasinghe to that list, he's a talented prospect. There's obviously Mendis and Murali. I have never been excited about SL bowling like this.

I don't like to talk about batting though. We have been performing below par and today was an exception.

Pakistan have a new look bowling attack. Everything depends on the pitch. If it is a batting track, as Karachi is always like that, then Pakistan will be in real trouble. They need to have bounce and grass to help their bowlers. Murali-Mendis will eat them up if there is any crack in day three. Also in fielding department Pakistan is way behind than SL. Dropping catches and Pakistan will lose big time in this two test series. Not a pretty sight will it be for the new captain.

For Jayawardene's troops, his stepping down will be an extra motivation. I am as usual on the SL side on this one.

Sri Lanka is battering Pakistan. 361/3 in 81 overs. Both Jayawardene and Samaraweera reached ton and still punishing mediocre pak attack.

They kind of deserve it, they droped Shoiab Malik from the captaincy because of the old saying "it's always greener on the other side" and Younis turns out to be a terrible captain, didn't even have a third man the whole day 100+ runs were scored in that region.

And then the pakistani fans make excuses "The bowlers let him down, it's not his fault"

why wasnt shoaib Malik given the same respect? How could he control a batting collapse to 75 all out, with a pace attack which these days looks pretty medicore other than umer Gul

SL is pounding pakistan. Good to see Mahela do well, since they are my third fav team (tied with india), and that he is resigning as captain after this.

They really destroyed Sohail Khan. 105 runs in 16 overs.... rr of 6.56... in his test debut too!

Me thinks SL will declare with a score of 600. Depends on when they get out of course.

This is why cricket is such an interesting game. Two batsmen with 400+ partnership were batting and now on the same score two batsmen with 0 runs are batting and 3 wicket fell on 614 :)

615/6 at tea, i reckon SL should have declared.
Pakis got a mountain to climb and i dont think they can avoid follow on.

How much Mahela wants on the board? 700?
Should atleast let the bowlers take charge for 20 overs.
let the paki batsmen face the murali mendis music.

Pakistan still got a tough task ahead of them.
400 more needed just to avoid follow on. I dont think they can do that.

Things keep going south for Pakistan.

Losing a test match by an innings in Karachi will put Pakistan cricket on par with a team like NZ(they are already behind WI IMO).

only 3 down with 149 to get and a draw is guaranteed...after what happened, or rather almost happened in Mirpur some weeks ago, SL won't dare declare no matter how big their lead. Just have to get those 149 runs with 7 wickets, should be cake, but this is cricket and the team is Pakistan.

good to see pak cricket fighting back...

dude, he's still 94 away from tying lara's record...let him get to 350 or 375 first.

this is just like everyone talking about sehwag breaking the record last year...plenty of pppl have reached 300 and even 320 and failed to get close to 400...lara's record is safe for at least the next 20 hours.

210.2 - Fernando to Younis Khan, OUT, Gone! Good length on the off stump and jagged back in sharply, gets on the back foot to defend but was bowled through the gate, end of an absolutely superb innings by the Pakistan captain, unfortunate to have missed out on the record but he's ensured his team saves the first Test after facing a mammoth score of 644 from Sri Lanka.

That was some simply breath taking world class knock from Younis Khan.
A perfect example of how to lead from the front.
His first outing as the captain, and he had certainly stepped up in full force not only to lead but to inspire the youngsters in the team as well.

actually he came into Srilanka team as a batsman as surplus part time bowler, he is basically batsman. I guess u r mixing him up with Thilan Tushara Mirando, the strike bowler!

He came into the side as a bowler back in the day. but he could only score at home back in the day so they dropped him. He gave up bowling, Now he's back.

He has 348 first class wickets.
