After the auctions of Mash and Ash,Im curious which teams you guys support, so i made this poll
Personally Im for the Kolkata Knight Riders
The votes are public :)

I supported Bangalore last year for Razzak but this time i will support Kolkata (for Mashrafe) and Mumbai (for Ash) :)

To be honest with you none of them. But I would want Mash,Ash and Raz (if he is still not supended) to do well every time they play.

Spitfire_x86
February 6, 2009, 09:10 AM
KKR for now, as Mashrafee is definitely in their first XI plans. Not sure what will be Ash's role in Mumbai, and Razzak will probably be a bench warmer for Bangalore again.

Razzak wont be playing in this year's edition i'm sure.

Razzak wont be playing in this year's edition i'm sure.

But the IPL contracts say that a player may opt out only if a player is injured or if they have national commitments...but razzak's case is special

Kolkata Knight Riders - no doubt.........

Will watch every match of Mumbai Indians also...because our Ashraful is there.......want to see some boom boom innings from him...stage is set for Ashraful, I think if he plays for 1st XI, then Tendulkar will give him all the lisence to go for the bowling....which eventually bring the best of Ashraful.

Of course you are allowed to select senman. Welcome to the forums. Hope you like it here.

I would support the team where our boys will get regular first team opportunity.

senman
February 6, 2009, 10:12 AM
Thanks Tonoy. But I like to stay away from this poll because I believe it will truly reflect which team Bangladeshi's will select. My team is Chennai, if we had a extra slot and do not have Murali with us we would have bid for Sakib, sorry he got missed out.

February 6, 2009, 10:17 AM
Chennai eh? No surprises there especially with your avatar pic. I actually supported Rajasthan Royals last season. But it would be nice to see support kolkata I suppose. I somehow think mash will be hit around the park. His 20/20 record hasn't set the world on fire yet.

Everyone will be hit out of the park considering the format of the game, but I think Mortaza can make it . If he can pick 1 or 2 wickets each game with economy rate under 8.00 runs/over then I believe he would every single rupee KKR paid for him.

Why Ashraful so unpopular, I see no one supports Mumbai here even though they have your captain Ashraful?

tonoy
February 6, 2009, 10:26 AM
Because the probability of Ashraful actually playing a match is quite low. But if he does, you know which team most Bangladeshis will support. I actually think Rajasthan Royal got much stronger with the addition of Tait. And Chennai with flintoff.

Ashraful is probably the most popular cricketer of Bangladesh. :)

I think Tonoy said it well. If Ashraful plays regularly, Mumbai will get a very good support from Bangladesh.

Yes not 100% sure why Mumbai picked him better bet would be Sakib (may be something got to do with Ashraful and his idol Sachin? probably sachin would have asked for him but doubt it)
Yes Chennai is stronger than last year FLintoff , Oram and A.Morkel all are hard hitting all rounders.

The reason there is a overwhelming support for KKR is their keen interest in Mash. It is not like Ash (or Raj last year) when they were just tossed into bag at their base price. The fact that KKR bid for Mash at 600k, made him 6th in the price list, is the reason that made KKR great to us. It is more about PRIDE.

I have a few other reasons too:
1) People in Kolkata also speak bengali and have a lot of similarity to bangladesh
2)KKR has one of the most impressive batting line-ups
3)Sharukh Khan owns the team(which would single handedly be enough reason for me)

Sorry Mortaza, but my priority support is for Ashraful in Mumbai Indians! :) I hope he plays lol
Then ofcourse its Kolkata Knightriders, and looking at the Kolkata bowling lineup, its possible he might get a lot of chances - woooohooo! :D

February 6, 2009, 12:06 PM
With the amount they are paying him, certainly my support would go for KKR.
There was always a soft corner for Kolkata team to begin with, now have me totally converted.
If the rumours and reports come true, Dhaka is all likely to be KKR's second home, and oh boy, i cant wait for it.

You can be assured of a complete frenzy amongst the cricket lovers here, if there is a match between KKR and Mumbai Indians at Mirpur.

im just happy for the grooming that both Ashraful and Mashrafe will get. For Ashraful, he will interacting with players like Tendulkar (WOAH), Jayasuriya (WOAH), Dwayne Bravo (NOT BAD), JP Duminy (Definately the new superstar!).....and for Mashrafe its Sourav Ganguly (WOAH), Ricky Ponting (WOAH), Brendon McCullam (WOAH AGAIN), Mendis (WOAH as well)...and also quite good fast bowlers to work with such as Ishant Sharma and experienced Ajit Agarkar.

1. Bangladeshis are in love with Mash, because he rarely disappoints. Ashraful is our eid who makes us happy twice a year. (adv. Kolkata)

2. I'll be surprised if Ash gets to play much. Mash will play in most, if not in all the games. (adv. Kolkata)

3. Proximity to Bangladesh (adv. Kolkata)

4. Language (adv. Kolkata)

5. Culture. (adv. Kolkata)

6. Shahrukh (adv. Kolkata)

lol, i'll just wish the players to do well, like in KKR, if Mashrafe goes for runs, i'll hope that Ishant goes for runs too, so that Mash's pride gets saved, similarly if Ash goes out for few runs, I would like to see Sachin go for a duck too.....:D...........But I hope, the only thing, our players do well and restore the pride we almost bagged during 2007. And hopefully Raz gets to play too....C'mon Bangladeshis :flag:

February 6, 2009, 03:13 PM
This is what Cricinfo has to say about the teams.

Kolkata Knight Riders
The big boost for Kolkata is the availability of explosive New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum - who scored the most famous Twenty20 century in last year's tournament opener - for the whole season. Chris Gayle was unfit last time around and Kolkata will bank on his all-round abilities to help them build early momentum before he leaves for national duty. Mashrafe Mortaza, a popular signing at the auction, could find it hard to fill Umar Gul's shoes but Ajantha Mendis could be their ace. Ishant Sharma flopped last season but he has vastly improved his skills for the limited-overs game in the past year. Also in the mix are local lad Ashok Dinda, who impressed last season, and former India internationals Ajit Agarkar and Murali Kartik, one of the key bowlers in Middlesex's successful Twenty20 campaign.

While Ricky Ponting and allrounder David Hussey may be called on for national duty, fellow Australians Brad Hodge and Moises Henriques, the young New South Wales allrounder, will fill the breach. Cheteshwar Pujara, considered by many to be an India prospect, could well be a value addition.

Probable XI: 1 Brendon McCullum (wk), 2 Chris Gayle/Brad Hodge, 3 Sourav Ganguly, 4 David Hussey/ Moises Henriques, 5 Cheteshwar Pujara, 6 Wriddhiman Saha (wk), 7 Laxmi Shukla, 8 Murali Kartik, 9 Ishant Sharma, 10 Ashok Dinda, 11 Ajantha Mendis.

Mumbai Indians
Mumbai made three buys in the auction. JP Duminy was snapped up for a whopping $950,000, while Mohammad Ashraful could be a steal for the Twenty20 format at $75,000; in between, fast bowler Kyle Mills, who will help compensate for the missing Shaun Pollock. Zaheer Khan, on current form, is a vital addition to cover up for the South African's bowling skills. In another swap, Mumbai sold Ashish Nehra and brought in Delhi's Shikhar Dhawan, a move to compensate for Uthappa's departure. Dwayne Bravo, a successful replacement player for the team last year, was given a permanent deal. Two other key signings also came before the auction. They are limited-over specialists from the English county circuit, allrounders Graham Napier and Ryan McLaren - a Kolpak player South Africa wanted to get back after their ODI losses in England last year.

The team has three Sri Lankans in Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga and Dilhara Fernando, all of whom are available for the entire tournament. Mumbai were unlucky last time to miss Sachin Tendulkar, who was injured, and Harbhajan Singh - banned for his infamous slap - for the bulk of the tournament. If they manage to get it right, they would perhaps be able to do justice to Mumbai's tag of domestic giants.

Probable XI: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Shikhar Dhawan, 4 & 5 Dwayne Bravo/ Ryan McLaren/ JP Duminy/ Graham Napier, 6 Abhishek Nayar, 7 Yogesh Takawale (wk), 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Dhawal Kulkarni, 11 Lasith Malinga/ Dilhara Fernando/ Kyle Mills.

So according to them, Ash and Mash will get hard time to be in the playing eleven through out the season..

No way KKR will field two spinners (Murali Kartik and A. Mendis), spinners flopped big time last season (one of the reason Sakib dint get picked up), so Mortaza will definitely play in the first few matches if he proves to be good then he will continue.

It's a Limit of 8 Foregin players per match I think or 8 Internationals (India Included)

DLF IPL Squad rules : Each DLF IPL franchise squad must have a minimum of 16 players per squad. This will include a maximum of 8 currently available foreign players per squad (any foreign players in a Franchise's squad who are not available for any reason will not count towards the total). Each franchise can have a maximum of 4 foreign players in the playing XI for each match.

The squad will additionally consist of a minimum 4 under 22 players (the catchment players and the Indian national players if so qualified can be counted for the purpose of this rule. Foreign players may not be counted for the purpose of this rule). These players must be under 22 years old on 1 April of the relevant season.

Im pretty sure that Razzak can fix his action before IPL.

Well he must have changed it already pretty quickly as they've sent of his video footage to australia before going to ICC again. Must mean hes remodelled his action or decreased the angle significantly. Let's see how that result goes. If it's good, he's not only back in the IPL but the ODI team
