</td> </tr> </tbody></table> </td></tr> </tbody></table> Dhaka, March 30 (bdnews24.com) – The Chittagong District Sports Association is planning to hold the Port City League (Twenty20 Cricket) with eight teams.
The organisers on Monday placed their proposal to the Bangladesh Cricket Board and are now waiting for final approval to hold the Twenty20 league.
We placed our proposal to the board, which assured us that they would let us know by April 3, said co-coordinator of the PCL Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, also a BCB director.
The PCL authority, however, has to ensure the board whether the pitch, floodlight and relevant facilities at Chittagong MA Aziz Stadium were playable.
Alamgir said that the champions might be awarded between Tk 20 to Tk 15 lakh though it had yet to be finalised as they had estimated a budget of Tk 80 to 90 lakh.
"We heard their proposal and asked them to clear a few things up," BCB director and tournament committee chairman Gazi Ashraful Hossain said. "BCB always wants to spread cricket and we welcome their initative."
The Chittagong DSA plans to hold the Twenty20 league from April 29 to May 9 with the participation of Chittagong Abahani, Chittagong Mohammedan, Chittagong Brothers Union, Chittagong Port as well as four corporate houses – Ispahani Tea, Elite Paint, Partex and Gazi Tank.
The organisers are also keen on holding a 70 players' auction – 20 BCB contracted cricketers, 30 from the ongoing Dhaka Premier Cricket League and rest from Chittagong.
The players will be divided into four categories and the base price of auction will be Tk 30, 20, 15 and 10 thousand respectively.

I was just about to speak in the same tone but Mijan bhai, being wiser and older :), was ahead of me.
My point is even precise. What is with this whole "league" thing?? Just because it started with ICL and IPL does not mean every T20 tournament has to be baptized with League at its end.
Why cant it be cricket tournament? cricket cup?
or even symbolising the role of T20, it could even be called Cricket Carnival.
Chittagong Cricket Carnival.
It is like a fun,joy party where everyone turns up to watch some quick boom boom fast food type of cricket with crazy actions and then go home happily, in very short period of time. It is like a carnival festive mode.
Thinking outside the box not always necessarily a bad thing.

I bet Khulna all-stars will kick everyone's rear. 1) Sadat alone will take of things. If not, then there is guy name 2) Rubel. If somehow others over come him, not so readily available 3) Mash can come in, watch and win the damn thing. If others bring in foreign firepower (hired goons), we would unleash 4) Shakib with lots of 5) Dolar in his pocket, 6) Bhimrul stings will be as side dish so that not only in this year but in years to follow no other team dares to even look up to us. 7-10) Zia, Rasel, Robiul, prince Raj will be mere spectators. They don't need to perform, we would win even without them. 11) Tushar would keep the wicket just to badger the faltu teams.
Sydney,
I love Carnivals. That is eye-catching and creates a new super highway to ... Robert Frosts: The road not taken....
"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same"

The very word cup at the end makes it sound native for T20 cricket.
Carnival sounds very good and promises real treat/fun for the people to encourage buying tickets..

PCL from April 29
Staff Correspondent, ChittagongWith the much-needed final nod from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) the sports organisers of Chittagong has gladly taken the challenge to launch Bangladesh version of Twenty20 cricket styled PCL (Port city Cricket League).
The BCB's board of directors approved the tournament in a meeting on Saturday and has decided to extend all out cooperation to the Port City League (PCL) and set proposed start date of the tournament is April 29.
The tournament will be held at the MA Aziz Stadium but BCB has concern about whether the floodlight is okay to hold the Twenty20 meet.
“Considering insufficient flood lights, the BCB will ask NSC (National Sports Council) to send an engineer to examine the pros and cons of the stadium by next week,” said Ali Abbas, vice-president of Chittagong Divisional Krira Sangstha (CDKS), yesterday.
Taking inspiration from two popular Indian events IPL and ICL, the organisers of CDKS last month had initiated the country's first-ever Twenty20 league.
A five-member delegation of the CDKS led by PCL organising committee chairman AZM Nasiruddin, also president of Chittagong Brothers Union club, went to Dhaka yesterday to bid thanks and gratitude to the BCB for giving them permission to hold the tournament.
They also held a brief meeting with the BCB senior vice-president Mahbubul Anam and director and tournament committee chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain and discussed different aspects of PCL.
In the meeting, BCB offered a 12-day slot from April 29 to May 10 to the PCL organisers, and gave them lists of probable players, per formers, umpires and instructed some directions.
He said a total of eight teams would contest the tournament.
“Already six teams Mohammedan Sporting Club, Brothers Union, Continental Group, Ispahani Group, Laxmipur Rider and Noakhali DSA registered formally,” Abbas said.
An auction of around 60 cricketers may take place and there also will be the option for the participating teams to choose sponsors.
PCL chairman AZM Nasir said that they will sit in Chittagong in day or two to discuss in details about the preparations of PCL.

Mate, you are slightly wrong I guess. our people are smart enough of making money, when it comes to their own pocket. Very poor in giving out.
Infact the formula is, more you give, more you get. That sense yes they aren't smart enough.
Just make a rough calculation of how much they are earning from gate, sponsors, TV rights etc. And how much they are aiming to pay the cricketers. Not more than 20% of it.
Well if they would declare a bigger money for the players and prize money, they could have earned more from the TV rights and sponsors. At the end unsmart yes, but just for focusing too much on their own pockets.

Can't wait! Although the tournament will certainly lose some of its gloss due to the absence of Ash and Mash and ICL stars such as Alok and Aftab. But ATM the most important thing is to give the boys some T20 practice by playing in competitive T20 matches to prepare them for the World Twenty20. So when is the auction?

PCL gains momentum
Preparations for the PCL (Port City League), set to be kicked off on May 2, stepped up further yesterday with the signing of title sponsor agreement with a prominent business group.
Habib Group came forward to buy the title sponsorship in exchange of Tk 20 lakh.
The organisers set a budget of Tk 1,40,00,000 for the Twenty20 tournament and so far received confirmation of Tk 70 lakh from the sponsors.
Besides Habib Group and Taher Group, who agreed to give Tk 10 lakh, there are many sponsors like Inter Sports, Meridian Hotel, Asian SR Hotel, UCBL, Karnaphuli Guest House and Chittagong Club who all have come forward with medium amounts.
A list of 48 players to be auctioned in five different categories was announced with Tigers opener Tamim Iqbal and left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak in the A+ grade with a floor price of Tk 30,000.
Players like national opener Imrul Kayes, Zunaed Siddiqui, Mehrab Hossain, Rokibul Hasan, Shahadat Hossain, Syed Rasel, Nazmul Hossain Mahbubul Alam, Rubel Hossain, Mahmudullah Riyad and Nayeem Islam have been placed in A grade with the floor price of Tk 20,000.
For A- grade the floor price is Tk 15,000, B+ grade Tk 10,000 and B grade Tk 8,000.
The auction will be held at the Karnaphuli Resort on April 25 and the bidding opens at 11:00am.
The agreement signing ceremony of the title sponsorship took place at the office of Chittagong Divisional Krira Sangstha (CDKS) yesterday in presence of a large number of sports organisers, government officials, media people and some other PCL sponsors.
"Someone has to take sort of responsibility to boost up sports and come forward with financial assistance to this end. So, we thought this was the right time to step in," said Yeasin Ali, managing director of Habib Group.
"The list of sponsors will hopefully get large in next few days and different companies have already shown keen interest in the tournament," said CDKS vice-president Ali Abbas.
Chittagong Mohammedan, Chittagong Abahani, Chittagong Brothers Union, Ispahani Group, Continental Group, Noakhali Top Sports and Laxmipur Dhaka Sports have already confirmed their participation. Another team from Dhaka might fill up the other spot in the eight-team competition.
Considering the acute power crisis, most of the matches of the eight-day tournament would be held in daytime while four matches -- the opening game, two semifinals and the final -- and the opening ceremony may be played under lights at the Chittagong MA Aziz Stadium.
The four day-night matches will be telecast live by private satellite channel ATN Bangla.
Organisers said the champions would get a prize money of Tk 15 lakh while the runners-up will receive Tk 5 lakh. The man-of-the-match will get an attractive amount.
Some foreign players are expected to add to the glamour and Chittagong Mohammedan Sporting Club have already confirmed at least two Pakistani cricketers Kamran Hossain of Habib Bank and Kaiser Abbas of Sialkot Club.
Each team will be allowed to include three foreign cricketers.

I am feeling for poor Aftab....
He would have got close to Tamim or may even more if he would have not joined ICL
By seeing the prospect of PCL...I think if National players those joined ICL may earn more money in three years if they stayed and played in national team and PCL than they are earning from ICL.....
A lesson to learn for the cricketers really

Tamim Iqbal - 7 Lac 70 thousand per match
Javed Omar Belim Golla - 8000 per match
This is quite a difference........
Surprised: Shamsur Rahman Shuvo - 15,000 only!!!!!

If Tamim's team (Abahani) goes to the Final, then he will play 5 matches and that will give him 38,50,000 taka......which is eventually more than what Ashraful is getting from Mumbai Indians in IPL.

The prices are not fair. How can Mushfiq, Rasel, Rajib get 20-30 thousand whereas players like Imrul Kayes and Arafat Sunny can fetch upto 75000?

The teams are making a mistake by not going after pacers. Pacers are much more important than they are given credit for in T20. Eventually as more of these tournaments spring up and pacers contnue to get ignored, it will discourage youngsters to take up pace bowling which will hurt Bangladesh cricket in the future.
