We should have one thread for all the matches played by teams other than Mumbai and Kolkata. When Ash and/or Mash play then maybe we can have seperate match threads on the matchday. But if this is going to act as the official thread for the tournament then may I suggest tidying it up a bit? The OP should have some information about the tournament and the Title should be made more clearer.

April 16, 2009, 10:13 AM
Let the sub-forum take its own course.
There will be more than "too many" threads when IPL begins.
Offcourse our followings will be primarily on KKR and MI, but if Mash and Ash doesnt feature regularly, that would fade off soon too.

Yes they are scum bags in my mind anybody that do not play my players (Ashraful and Mashrafee) are pure and simple low lives!!! I beleive in it in my heart and I can go sleep at night peacefully thinking this venomous way. If a big money/exposure BD league did that to them(any player from any other countries, bring them and just make them sit on the bench) they would be saying the same to me.....I am truly glad that the Mumbai Indians lost today. And each and evreytime the KKR and Bombay Indian do not play my Ashraful and Mashrafee and lose, I will feel comfortable and be smiling!

Champs, chumps and the fifth Beatle

Dada does it Toronto-style, Hayden leaves it too late, and Flintoff just plain leaves. Week one of the IPL in precis

Flintoff: money for nothing © Getty Images

Streaker of the week
The dog that evaded all security and rugby tackles, holding up play during the opening game (http://content.cricinfo.com/ipl2009/engine/match/392181.html) of the IPL, for longer than even a strategic time-out. Did it all without a stitch on its person.
Conspicuous absence of the week
Pakistan players: Well, Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul mostly, though Shah Rukh Khan's generally glum expressions can only be lightened by a Shoaib Akhtar bear hug.
Conspicuous absence of the week II
The Indian crowd: No disrespect to South African crowds, but well-behaved fans do not necessarily make for fun fans.
Deal of the week
Two wickets at US$387,500 each and 62 runs at US$12,500 each mean Andrew Flintoff has been as much of a bargain as a shopping spree at Harrods. And he picked up a knee injury to end his involvement thereafter.
Are we in Toronto?
Sourav Ganguly's two-wicket over against Kings XI Punjab (http://content.cricinfo.com/ipl2009/engine/match/392186.html) under the grey clouds of Durban revived memories of when Dada was the Prince of the Sahara (Cup), and the champion of all dibbly-dobbly bowlers.
John, Paul, George, Ringo and…
Mandira? With that haircut, the first TV lady of Indian cricket can only be the fifth Beatle.
Most ill-timed return to form
Two fifties, 166 runs and a strike rate of over 170: whew, those are the kind of numbers that get you a return to national duty, especially when your country is struggling with its batting. If only, of course, 37-year-old Matthew Hayden, possessor of those very figures, had produced them three months ago, before retiring.
The best-disguised googly of the week
The time-out: Is it innovative, philanthropic, strategic, or naked capitalism? We're all stumped.
The least super thing about the Super Over
Its existence.
Best-researched post-match player interview
Ravi Shastri to Herschelle Gibbs after the latter led the Deccan Chargers to a comfortable win (http://content.cricinfo.com/ipl2009/engine/match/392184.html) over the Kolkata Knight Riders. "Well Herschelle, well played - go and enjoy a drink," says Shastri. All very harmless of course. Though, considering Gibbs came out of an alcohol-related rehabilitation course in January, perhaps it wasn't the smartest advice he has been given of late. Gibbs laughed and said "Well, a drink of water, yeah"
The Lasith Malinga award for freak performance of the week
Anil Kumble's 5 for 5 (http://content.cricinfo.com/ipl2009/engine/match/392182.html). So some of the shots were as well-considered as a Silvio Berlusconi speech, but 5 for 5? In a Twenty20? At his age?
The Shahid Afridi award for freak performance of the week
The second half of AB de Villiers' century against the Chennai Super Kings (http://content.cricinfo.com/ipl2009/engine/match/392189.html). Having crawled to 50 off 35 balls, he brought up a second fifty in 16 balls, which included 20 off four successive deliveries from the US$1.55-million-dollar-man.
Least welcome guests of the week
Duckworth-Lewis, who have gatecrashed two matches. And rain, which washed one out totally. Good thing the IPL didn't go to the UK, which has been afflicted by bright sunshine and an uninterrupted county season since the first week.

Captaincy of the week
Kevin Pietersen the captain bringing on Kevin Pietersen the bowler. Six bowlers had been tried over 10 overs, without fruit, after Parthiv Patel and Matthew Hayden came out swinging. KP came on after the time-out and first ball bowled Patel. So inspired was the move - and so petrified Chennai - that Hayden ran himself out the very next ball. Only barely worth noting that KP went for a duck as his side were bowled out for 87 subsequently.

Enjoyed reading this, shows how much this tournament has lost its intensity from the initial one.

How about not having any captain at all? The playing eleven, bowling order, batting order, field placings and all other decisions needed to be made will be made by a computer based on the players earlier performances. So if a bowler bowled poorly in a match, he can expect to be out of the bowling line up...makes the game much more fair for the few people who do perform.

Maybe the computer would have picked Mash in the playing eleven of the KKR if they used it,coz hes ranked 7th in the ICC Rankings

If the retarded KKR management had the ability to learn, they would take note of how Punjab is winning matches even after posting below par scores. Their batting lineup is beyond salvation. The no-name Indians couldn't do much worse than what McCullum/Hodge is doing ATM. On the other hand a bowling line-up of Sharma/Mash/Mendis/Kartik would give them a fair chance if they had a half-decent score on board.

16.15 local Down in the middle, two Indian legends are tossing. Anil Kumble calls heads but its tails and Sachin Tendulkar decides Mumbai will bat. Mumbai have made two expected changes. Graham Napier's return to England means Dwayne Bravo is back in and a fit-again Shikhar Dhawan also comes back into the XI. Mumbai have won a toss on a very good batting track.

Kumble is himself, not showing much expression. He started his term as captain with a win and hopes to continue. Bangalore have four changes. Rahul Dravid is back from India, Wasim Jaffer gets his first game this season, Dillon du Preez makes his IPL debut, and R Vinay Kumar gets another chance.

Damn stuff this they havent given Ashraful a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spotted Mash in the dug-out sitting close to Buchanan .. has he been able to develop some kind of rapport?

With Gayle flying to play test cricket it opens up a spot for Mash.

Better late than never.

"Struggling Kolkata have the added headache of finding a replacement for the explosive Gayle. With Moises Henriques failing to take his chances, either Sri Lankan allrounder Angelo Mathews or Mashrafe Mortaza could get a game. Ashok Dinda also had a forgettable outing against Punjab, and might be benched."

Source: http://content.cricinfo.com/ipl2009/content/current/story/402930.html

I'm pretty sure they have to select Mashrafe now, if they don't then... you know what will happen to BookhaNon

Symo teaching Sreeshant a lesson :D

16.6 Sreesanth to Symonds, 1 run, swivels and pulls off one leg straight to deep square-leg

16.5 Sreesanth to Symonds, FOUR, drops it short and he swivels and biffs him across the line, the short arm pull sends the ball scorching to the deep midwicket boundary

16.4 Sreesanth to Symonds, 2 runs, slams it hard square of the wicket and Mota does brilliantly at deep cover to slide and cut it off just inches from the rope

16.3 Sreesanth to Symonds, SIX, Sreesanth suffers again by bowling a half volley outside off, Symonds lofts hard through the line and gets enough bat to clear the rope at long-off

16.2 Sreesanth to Symonds, SIX, he goes big, he goes half a dozen! Sreesanth bowls him a friendly half volley and he makes room and lofts him through the line and deposits it a mile over the wide long-on boundary

ya i just hope that Mumbai have no chance of going to the semis with like 2 games left, then he could play those. Otherwise no chance, as all 6 teams apart from Delhi (who are pretty much though) and Kolkata (who are pretty much not through) have the chance for the 3 semi spots left. So for Mumbai to lose! :)
