Preparations are in full swing to host the country's first-ever high budgeted competition -- Habib Group Port City League (PCL) Twenty20 -- beginning here on May 2 in the smash-and-grab style of the IPL.
Eight teams, split into two groups, will compete in the Tk 2.40 crore Twenty20 tournament at the MA Aziz Stadium.
The participating teams are Chittagong Abahani, Chitta-gong Mohammedan, Chitta-gong Brothers Union, Ispahani Sporting Club, Pirates of Chittagong, Dada Warriors, Top Sports and DSC Tigers.
PCL chairman AZM Nasiruddin told UNB: "Our main objective in organising the country's first Twenty20 cricket league from our own resources to revive the port city's past glory and rich tradition in sports. (It is) also to stake our claim to host at least two World Cup cricket matches in Chittagong."
Satellite TV channel ATN Bangla is expected to telecast four matches live including the opening ceremony and the opening match, two semifinals and the final, informed PCL vice-chairman Ali Abbas.
PCL coordinator and BCB director Alamgir Mohammad Sirajuddin said that the gala opening ceremony on May 2 will feature colourful fireworks for about 15 minutes, a laser show and cultural programme.
The organisers are now busy arranging the much-awaited cricketers' auction on to be held on Saturday at the Chittagong Club auditorium.
Forty-eight leading cricketers of the country, in five groups, go under the hammer with per match floor price of Tk 30,000 for Grade A+ cricketers, Tk 20,000 for Grade A, Tk 15,000 for Grade A-, Tk 10,000 for Grade B+, and Tk 8,000 for Grade B.
The participating teams will be entitled to recruit two foreign players, two national players, four Dhaka Premier League players and three players from Chittagong Division.
The champions will receive Tk 15 lakh as prize money and the runners-up Tk 5 lakh. Man of the match will get Tk 10,000 while league's best player will get Tk 25,000 and highest scorer and highest wicket-taker Tk 15,000 each.

Hec, even football gets 1 crore winners fee these days...

চট্টগ্রাম, ২৫ এপ্রিল (বিডিনিউজ টোয়েন্টিফোর ডটকম) (http://www.bdnews24.com/bangla/details.php?id=48466&cid=26) - আইপিএলের নিলামে উঠতে না পারার দুঃখ সুদে-আসলে পুষিয়ে দিল পিসিএল (পোর্ট সিটি লিগ)! এমন দাবি করলেন স্বয়ং তামিম ইকবালই। ইউএস ডলার আর টাকার ব্যবধানটা বিস্তর হলেও শনিবার বাংলাদেশে প্রথমবারের মতো হওয়া ক্রিকেটারদের নিলামে যে মূল্যে বিক্রি হয়েছেন তিনি, তা মাশরাফি বিন মর্তুজার আইপিএলে ৬ লাখ ডলারের অবিশ্বাস্য অঙ্কে বিকোনোর সঙ্গেই তুলনীয়। জাতীয় দলের এই ওপেনারকে ম্যাচপ্রতি ৭ লাখ ৭০ হাজার টাকায় কিনে নিয়েছে আবাহনী লিমিটেড। আগামী ২ মে থেকে চট্টগ্রামের এমএ আজিজ স্টেডিয়ামে শুরু হতে যাওয়া পিসিএলে আটটি দল দুই গ্র"পে ভাগ হয়ে খেলবে। এরপর প্রতি গ্র"পের শীর্ষ দুই দল খেলবে সেমিফাইনালে। তামিমের দল ফাইনালে উঠলে তাকে খেলতে হবে পাঁচটি ম্যাচ। আর এই অল্প কটা ম্যাচ খেললেই তার অ্যাকাউন্টে জমা পড়বে ৩৮ লাখ ৫০ হাজার টাকা। বাংলাদেশের কোনো ক্রিকেটারের সামনে এর আগে দেশের মাটিতে এতো বিপুল অঙ্কের হাতছানি নিয়ে আর কোনো টুর্নামেন্ট আসেনি।

এই নিলামে তোলা হয়েছিল ৪৮ জন ক্রিকেটারকে। আইপিএলের মতো এখানে তো আর নায়িকার ছড়াছড়ি আর গ্ল্যামারও সেভাবে ছিল না বটে, তবে মডেলদের দিয়ে আটটি দলের পতাকা-জার্সি বয়ে এনে অনুষ্ঠানটাকে জমকালো করার যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করেছেন আয়োজকরা। সংবাদ তারকা জ. ই. মামুন ও মুন্নী সাহা'র উপস্থাপনায় শুরু হওয়া অনুষ্ঠানের নিলাম পর্ব শুরু করেন সাবেক ক্রিকেটার রাফি নিজাম। শুরুটা হয় তামিমকে দিয়েই। 'এ প্লাস' শ্রেনীর দু'জনই ছিলেন- তামিম ও জুনায়েদ সিদ্দিকী, যাদের বেজ প্রাইস (ভিত্তি মূল্য, এখান থেকে দর ডাকা শুরু) ছিল ম্যাচপ্রতি ৩০ হাজার টাকা। তামিমের নাম ডাকার সঙ্গে সঙ্গেই তড়তড়িয়ে বাড়তে থাকে দর। সেটা ৭ লাখ ৭০ হাজারে ওঠার পর নিলামকারীর ঘোষণা, "তামিম ইজ সেলিং টু আবাহনী, সেভেন লাক সেভেনটি থাউজেন্ড- ওয়ান্স, টোয়াইস অ্যান্ড সোল্ড"।

এতো টাকায় তামিমকে কেনার ব্যাখ্যা দিতে গিয়ে চট্টগ্রাম আবাহনীর ক্রিকেট কমিটির চেয়ারম্যান ফাহিম ফারুক চৌধুরী বললেন, "আমরা চেয়েছিলাম সেরা খেলোয়াড়দের দলে ভিড়িয়ে সেরা দল গড়বো। তাই যে কোনো মূল্যেই হোক তামিমকে কেনার ইচ্ছে নিয়েই আমরা এই নিলামে আসি।" তামিমের তুলনায় 'এ প্লাস' শ্রেনীর অন্য ক্রিকেটার রাজ্জাকের দরটা সেভাবে ওঠেনি। তিনি ব্রাদার্স ইউনিয়নের কাছে বিক্রি হয়েছেন ম্যাচ প্রতি ১ লাখ ১০ হাজার টাকায়। পিসিএল টোয়েন্টি টোয়েন্টির দ্বিতীয় সবচেয়ে দামী ক্রিকেটারও তিনি নন। সেটা টোয়েন্টি টোয়েন্টি বিশশ্বকাপের জন্য বাংলদেশের ২১ জনের দলে থাকা সোহরাওয়ার্দী শুভ। এই বাঁ হাতি স্পিনারকে ১ লাখ ৭০ হাজার টাকায় কিনে নিয়েছে পাইরেটস অফ চিটাগাং। রাজ্জাকের চেয়ে দামী আরো একজন হচ্ছেন জুনায়েদ। তাকে কিনতে দাদা ওয়ারিয়র্সের খরচ হচ্ছে ম্যাচপিছু ১ লাখ ৩১ হাজার টাকা।

আর লাখের নীচে সবচেয়ে বেশি দাম উঠেছে ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটের দুই সফল পারফরমার আরাফাত সানি ও ইলিয়াস সানির। তাদের পেছনে ম্যাচপ্রতি দাদা ওয়ারিয়র্স এবং নোয়াখালীর টপ স্পোর্টসের খরচ হবে ৭৫ হাজার টাকা করে। অনেকের দর আবার নামের তুলনায় হতাশাব্যঞ্জকই। এই যেমন সদ্যসমাপপ্ত প্রিমিয়ার ক্রিকেট লিগের সেরা ব্যাটসম্যান শামসুর রহমান শুভ'কে মাত্র ১৫ হাজার টাকায় কিনে নিয়েছে ইস্পাহানী স্পোর্টস ক্লাব। আর সবচেয়ে কম মূল্যে বিক্রি হওয়া ক্রিকেটারদের মধ্যে অন্যতম জাতীয় দলের সাবেক ওপেনার জাভেদ ওমর। সবশেষের 'বি শ্রেণী'তে অন্তর্ভূক্ত জাভেদের বেজ প্রাইস ৮ হাজার টাকায়ও প্রথমে তাকে কেউ কিনতে চায়নি। অথচ অনুষ্ঠান শুরুর আগে বিগ স্ক্রিনে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেটের বেশ কিছু সোনালী মুহূর্তের মধ্যে তিনিও ছিলেন। ২০০১ সালের জিম্বাবুয়েতে টেস্ট অভিষেকে দুই ইনিংসেই ফিফটি করে ম্যান অফ দি ম্যাচ হওয়া এবং অভিষেকেই 'ক্যারিং দি ব্যাট থ্রু দি ইনিংস' এর বিরল কৃতিত্ব দেখানো এই ওপেনারের টোয়েন্টি টোয়েন্টি উপযোগীতা নেই বলেই হয়তো এমন হল। অবশ্য শেষপর্যন্ত তাকে বেজ প্রাইস অর্থাৎ ৮ হাজার টাকায় কিনে নেয় চট্টগ্রাম মোহামেডান।

অনেকে অনেক টাকায় বিক্রি হলেও নিলাম কক্ষেই অন্যরকম গুঞ্জনও শোনা গেল। সেটা এরকম যে, অনেক দামে বিক্রি হলেও প্রকৃত মূল্যটা আসলে অনেকেই পাবেন না। পিসিএল কমিটির প্রধান সমন্বয়কারী সিরাজউদ্দিন মোহাম্মদ আলমগীর জানালেন, 'আন্ডারহ্যান্ড ডিলিং'য়ের সুযোগ এর আগে কেউ কেউ তৈরি করলেও এখন আর সেটা নেই। তাছাড়া এধরনের কিছু ঠেকাতে সর্বাত্মক ব্যবস্থা নেওয়ার কথাও জানালেন তিনি, "আমরা দলগুলোকে জানিয়ে দিচ্ছি, টুর্নামেন্ট শুরুর আগেই প্রতিটা খেলোয়াড়কে দুই ম্যাচের টাকা বুঝিয়ে দিতে হবে। এরপর কোনো দলের সেমিফাইনাল যাওয়ার সম্ভাবনা দেখলে আরো দুই ম্যাচের টাকাও অগ্রিম দেওয়ার ব্যবস্থা করবো আমরা।"

আয়োজকদের এই নিয়ম-নীতি দলগুলো মানলে ২ মে পিসিএল শুরুর আগেই তামিমের অ্যাকাউন্টে জমা হওয়ার কথা ১৫ লাখ ৪০ হাজার টাকা!

None should take it personally. I see some Chittagonianism working in prices, it doesn't match with cricketing abilities. Specially how some national teamers are getting much lesser than the unknown locals and not to talk about the disparity in payment of Tamim and the rest.

PCL secretary Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir, however, said they are planning to hold the semi-finals and the final under floodlight and so did not decide on the timings of the matches yet.

Its good to see big money coming into the game. I read on some newspaper, that pretty big international stars are coming to PCL as well[well, the biggest available, as the best a re grabbed by IPL :P] But its really encouraging to see tamim get such a huge chunk of money per game. What guys think about a seperate page dedicated to PCL here in Bangla cricket, that should include teams, squads, results, fixtures, pictures, latest news, etc., etc.. I know I am kinda late with this idea, but better late then never !
