As the timing is very suitable I would be able to make around 70% of the matches. My target is to get DirecTV and buy the package. I find Pakistan and RSA as the main contender this time. Recent result of our Natl. team with the A recruites does not put up a rosy picture and there would be a mere possibility for us this time to pass the group level hurdle.

In seaming conditions other than England, Aussies, Pakis, WIndies and Saffers, all should be putting up strong fight. But again Pakis lost to BD in a WC match here in England, that's how they script their cricket. It will largely depend on their team chemistry. A win in Sharjah does not really ensure the ticket for English ground. WIndies team with their intra island politics, board-player contradiction and latest gayle question is much divided like the Pakis to pull through anything. My best bet would be Saffeers although they are not my favourite. I have little hope for Srilankans, they might just end up as same as Us and recent performance of Dilshan and Malinga does not ensure a total team effort.

Another important matter is Umpiring. Hope this time the umpires would provide the audience a clean fair tournament to cherish.

Agree. Time speaks itself. But recent performance of Aussie players in T20 is not so great as of Saffers or Srilankans.
Indians are doing good on the surface as they are the chief in IPL. But Pakis with only one game against Aussies swept them up and showed that what they are capable of if they can unite and perform together. I am very much concerned about the unity of WIndies and the team morale of Our team.
I don't want another Irish pull off like in the ODI WC.

Lack of match practice will catch up with Pakistan. They haven't played as a team in a long time and though they can produce the goods once in a while, I don't think they can win consistently enough to win a WC.

India will benefit from the WC. We now know exactly which players are in form. And all the players are in good T20 mode.

Timing is great. All the matches start at either evening or at midnight(ish) Dhaka time...
Looking forward to watch few more matches than expected.

I think the team with the most batting firepower will win this tourney. Though Bangladesh is short in it, but they will have india at the start and with a bit adrenalin rush might just spark something. I would dearly love them to get into semis , and from there on who knows?

I'd say India or SA are favorites. India obviously has sehway and all the IPLers (plus tendulkars playing really right now). SA has gibbs and devillers.

at this eary stage, form doesn't mean much. at the same time, "form" is a grossly exagerated concept to begin with.

i am actually more of the opinion that there is no such thing as form. thus the statement "form is temporary, class is permenent" should be "class is everything, form doesn't exist". of course this is barring the odd statistical anomaly which could indicate bad or good form.

but form could change in the same game. how many times have we seen sachin start off shakily only to score a maginificent century?

i think ash and mash will be ready to show something against india come june 6. at least mash will. he might break the 90 mph mark this time...

Form exists and till a player is not at the level of Murali, Warne or Sachin, Ponting, Hussey or any other greats the second statement does not really help a team much. The sudden pull off of a win by an underdog is generally a show of superb form which overrides the classier opponent.

I do not know if he would break that 90 dream mark but definitely a combined effort of this two with proper team effort we can (not a surprise any more) win any time against any team. Cricket is 90% played by mind whichever format it is.

The recent players that fall into form category rather than class category include, McCullum(flop in IPL), Kapali(ICL), Duminy, Bopara etc.

As it is widely accepted now that there is no auto-pilot even in T20 here is some apt remark from a recent article of Peter Rebouck,

"Cricket does not, cannot, work along those lines. The field dominates, days are spent in sporting conflict. Holding the team together, responding to a sudden attack, setback or opportunity, requires a hands-on approach. Captaincy by committee does not work. A hundred decisions are taken every hour. It's more like skippering a racing yacht, always watching for changes in the elements, always knowing that hesitation is fatal, judgment paramount, always looking far ahead and yet also remaining in the moment."

India are the favourite to win. they have superb batsmen, e.g. sehwag, Ghambir, Raina, Rohit, Yusuf Pathan, Yuvraj and MS Dhoni and also very good bowlers, 7 good batsmen and 4 good bowlers will win them most of the games.

BD will have to beat Ireland to proceed to the next level, they should have been grouped with Scotland or Ireland.

According to overall strength, India & South Africa are favorite. Australia yet to win this WC even if they are formally champion of the other two types of cricket.

One thing for sure though is that one from India, SA and Aus won't make the semis as all three of the teams are in the same S8 group. So if I am to think logically then from our (S8) group NZ will finish first and Pakistan will finish second and from the other group SA will finish first and India will finish second. So in the semis NZ vs. India: India will come out on top and SA vs. Pak: SA will win. So the final should be India vs. SA...too close to call.

Dont forget England and The Windians, they can also fire in 20/20 cricket, and who knows, one of the Associate teams e.g. Ireland may make it.The Brits, Ireland, NZ and SA all have bouncy wickets., and BD fails on bouncy wickets.

Many of the players of the IPL are playing for their respective teams, remember Ash and Mash had no real exposure, hope they do well in the practice games and get their form again. Heard that India has 2 practice games.

West Indies may surprise SL or Australia and advance onto the second round. And I think they will be dangerous there because of there familiarity with the T20 format. But I don't see England advancing further than the S8s, I doubt they will win a single match in the S8s as they will have SA, India and Aus in their group. If Dirk Nannes and ton Doeschante have a good day then England might be knocked out from the first round.

This will be a very interesting and exciting tournament no doubt. Obviously the eyes are drawn towards group C which includes the Aussies, the Lankans and Windies. I have a gut feeling that the Windies will surprise either of the two teams and advance onto the second round. For some strange reason I believe that the Windies will knock the Aussies out, they historically have struggle early on in English conditions which us Tiger fans know very well.

Possible upsets? Netherlands may surprise England. The Dutch have Dirk Nannes within their ranks this time. The dude is a genuine fast bowler plus very clever in the shortest format of the beautiful game, skills which he displayed in the IPL for his team Delhi. Other than him the Dutch also have Ryan ton Doeschate who has startling ODI stats albeit he has mostly played against associates.

Winner? Too hard to predict. Like most I will agree that India and South Africa are the favourites on paper. New Zealand have a very adept T20 squad and are my team to watch for the Tournament. Heart says Bangladesh will qualify for the semis but logic defies that. Windies are another team who are capable of going all the way but motivation and temperament lets them down.

I expect this Tournament to be nothing less than thrilling. Hopefully we will have some cracking matches and see our team do well.

i was about to go on an 8-page rant on disagreement till i realized you mean a different "form." in terms of _any_ physical activity Form is everything. if i may humbly suggest Tao of Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee.

Australian batsmen, South African batsmen and players like Sachin....what differentiates these players then our players are the perfect balance, line of strengths, fluid form... In our team, Sakib is blessed with the most beautiful form. And any newbie can tell the worst one is Mashrafe's bekayda shot which eventhough results in many fluky 6s, got no form whatsoever.

but i am ranting for no reason...cuz we are obviously talking about different meanings. :)
