View Full Version : Does Ash have what it takes to be a specialist spinner?

But most importantly, why the hell did he bowl today?! Sakib or even newly rehabilated Razzak could have taken his slot, but seriously how on earth could he get a carte blanche from Siddons for him to bowl? We all saw how he got clobbered by the Windies in T20 and is he...in the name of Holy conchoid of Nicomedes...secretly hatching a plan to execute his doosraful in T20? *knock on wood* I hope if not for the sake of country, but at least for sake of Mona Lisa, Ash should at least, reconsider before he begins to bowl.

[On a personal note, in the Sri Lanka test match, I made a comment that Ash is acting as if he bowled a ripper and cricman backed him up saying it WAS a ripper. Yes, there are some once in a blue moon good deliveries, but if he is even ghuranakkhoreu planning to bowl in the India match, he will be eaten alive by the likes of Sehwag and Yuvvy.]

But...I am all for him developing his bowling talent. It may very well be an asset. Heck it will even make him a better batsman once he knows how the inner mechanics of spin works and uses his unused portion of...whatever left as the thing called brain.

He should bowl to break partnerships, He's very good at that

He can be a true all-rounder if he puts in the Hours, He's still the biggest turner of the ball in the country, and can bowl a sort of top spinner

But....but....in small format of the game, can we really have the luxury to afford this?

16th over: from 4:07 onwards. True he gets a wicket, but the way he gave away runs is NOT an anomaly.

Yes he has what it takes to be a specialist spinner. He was a spinner first, remember? After he came to national team, they changed him to a batsman. And they didn't let him bowl that much after that. During the Bashar era, he hardly bowled an over.

He should bowl an over or two in 20/20. He has better average than Mash in 20/20 cricket.

In that match, he gave us the much needed breakthrow in his 1st/2nd over, otherwise score would have been over 180.

So by your logic, Mash shouldn't bowl in the 20/20 games as well. He is averaging over 50 with over 9-an-over economy rate, even though he is a specialist bowler!

Invitially he was a legspin bowler at wahidul goni's camp. He was also good at bowling googly and flippers.
But later on when his batting talent was identified he concentreted more on his batting. Now he should carry on as a batsman. And may be a partnership breaker in odi or test.
But not in t20.
But if he stops practising batting and only do bowling he can be a good bowler in 5-6 months

I don't think so. if it is "Good" in club level than May be. But in international level, Good Leg Spinner.............WOW.....................I have doubt.

He's a partnership breaker. He should practise so that when he come to break partnerships he doesn't give away 15 runs in T20..he shouldn't however be counted as an all-rounder right now. That takes a LOT of work! He shud fix his batting first.

But him being able to bowl a couple of overs is an asset for us

Yeah Ash babu has what it takes to be a top class spinner. He got almost as many first class wickets as Mash, although he played twice as many matches. But for now, he doesn't have the basic control of the ball, like controlling the line and length. Sure he can turn(Dunno about the biggest turner;clarification, crickman?) but as Danish Kaneria amply demonstrates, an erratic leggie is as useful as a tissue paper in stopping the flood.

Ash shoudn't bowl at all . He balls either a quicker ball or orthodox off spin and is no Shahid Afridi or Tendulkar when it comes to bowling variations in the T20 format .His leg breaks if gone wrong are lollipops for even a tailender. He instead should concentrate on his captaincy and more importantly his batting .

Had we lost the match against the WI in the previous T20 world cup , the blame solely would been have on Ashraful for leaking 54 runs in 4 overs. The worst spell of bowling by a Bangladeshi in T20.

Ashraful emerged in the scene as a leg spinner who can bat.......but over time he has totally lost his bowling. Now he is not a good enough bowler to bowl in international 20/20 format.

No, he doesn't have it. He has minimal control over his line and length. In 20/20's, I would rather see him not bowl a single over. Giving up 15+ runs for the promise of a single wkt is not required here. In tests, he can be a good partnership breaker, as he has shown before. Even in ODI's he can afford to give himself a few overs to break a partnership or two. Not in 20/20's, where the margin of error is so limited.

To be exact batsmen like Sachin can have amazing figures in bowling.
Sometimes a "Doosraful" can ignite the hope "doosra" time.
