Zimbabwe prepares to host Afghanistan

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2009\07\15\story_15-7-2009_pg2_7

HARARE: Afghanistan’s first foray into the world of international cricket following the ICC World Cup Qualifiers could happen as soon as the end of July. Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed that it is looking at possibly staging its opening four-day match in the 2009-10 Intercontinental Cup at home to Afghanistan on July 30. Zimbabwe, who will be fielding an A team in the competition, albeit not under that name, will then host a match against Kenya at the start of October.

Taibu seems to be in fine form. Wonder what the Bangladesh series would have been like had he been allowed to play.

Is he coming back on time for the tour of Bangladesh or does he ban period extend beyond the lifetime of that series?

Eshen
August 16, 2009, 11:55 PM
Taibu is banned for 10 ODIs, so he will be excluded for 5 more ODIs after the current series, ie he will have miss the return series in Bangladesh also.

Well, you can always hope ZC bosses will come to their senses and shorten his ban.

Hows that cheap? Was just saying that canadians don't play cricket and the "brown folks" as you call them , in New Zealand don't play cricket, Ross taylor is an exception

Only Samons who have played for New Zealand are

Ross taylor
Murphy Sua

Maoris-Adam Parore, Daryll tuffey, heath davis?

How do you even define Canadians? A lot of these people call it their home. The statement "Canadians don't play cricket" is highly ignorant, as you clearly don't know what "Canadian" is.

yes, of course. First Zim XI must put those 100-120 runs, then we can see what is probable and what is not. 160-180 in 50 overs time is a difficult chase for newbies.

Cricinfo staff
August 24, 2009

Netherlands 181 (de Grooth 54, Nabi 4-52, Hassan 4-45) lead Afghanistan 107 (Mangal 41) by 74 runs
Scorecard (http://www.cricinfo.com/icccont2010/engine/current/match/415171.html)

Twenty wickets fell on the first day of Netherlands and Afghanistan's ICC Intercontinental Cup clash at Amstelveen, as the home side gained a 74-run lead. Afghanistan are only playing their second match in this tournament, and their inexperience in foreign climes cost them dear when they were rolled for 107 in 36.5 overs.

Afghanistan produced what was thought to be an exceptional bowling display, with Hamid Hassan and Mohammed Nabi bagging four wickets a piece, to dismiss Netherlands for 181. But their efforts on the bowler-friendly wicket were soon over-shadowed by a calamitous batting performance, as Netherlands took no prisoners in their reply.

fantastic come from behind win against a much mroe experienced and somewhat decent side.

the zims should play 5 ODIs against them, so that taibu can serve his ban before teh tour to BD.

we should support the AFG team and host them for 3 ODIs at some point in the near future, they seemt o have promise to be where we are now in 10 years.

So the Afghans lost the first ODI against the Dutch - fell short by 8 runs (idiots) - but are cruising along pretty nicely (at 169/3 off 39 overs now) in pursuit of 232 in the second. Should be an interesting eleven overs.
