Again another series is ahead of us..After a break and watching all the excitements of world cricket..we missed our team's games.
But we don't have to wait that long..for the upcoming tour I would really appreciate from all of you to give your opinion about the formation of the team. Also what should be our pre-series preperation, how should we analysze to atleast fetch a draw. Who will be our openning batsmen? Middle order crisis and also a replacement :( for Masree...all rounder inclusions and etc..
Please give your valuable comments.
Thank you.

I would put Anwar Hossain Munir ahead of Tareq Aziz; although they were not tested on all types of wickets.
And I think that Anwar Hossain Munir should take the new ball, not Alamgir Kabir.
For some reason, Alamgir came in as first change which gave Anwar Hossain the opportunity to take the new ball - and Anwar had proved himself with the new ball.
About Monju - since Whatmore doesn't like him too much for his negative bowling, then I don't think Monju is certain to go to Zimbabwe - but if things work out, then I would like to see the following bowling line up for Bangladesh in the test matches against Zimbabwe:
1) Tapash Baisya
2) Monjurul Islam
3) Mohammad Rafique
4) Anwar Hossain Munir

I agree with the team. The last bowler can be picked depending on the pitch. Its crucial that our batting all-rounders like alok, ashraful become valuable partners in the bowling department..

The batting line-up becomes so obvious when Ashraful is in form. So for the top half, I'll go with Tehsin's dream team minus the last names -
Hannan Sarkar
Shahriar Hussein
Habibul Bashar
Rajin Saleh
Mohammad Ashraful
But where is Khaled Mahmud ? Assuming still that he's the captain, the next gimmies are -
Mushfiqur Rahman
Khaled Mashud
Khaled Mahmud
For the 3 specialist bowlers -
Mohd. Rafique
Tapash Baisha
Anwar Hossain
Bowlers getting into the team in the future-
Talha Zubair
Mohd. Sharif
Bowlers not getting in -
Manjurul Islam
The ideal team would be with Masri in, & Mahmud out, Talha bowling straight, and between Shariar Hossain, Hannan Sarkar, Javed Omar, two having good form.

will they be good enough to carry out our pace attack with Tapash...unless we train them so hard to be little Masri ...I am s till amazed that in all these years we can't get more than one bowlers like Masri :(

After Masri - there is a HUGE void. They will have their days but their once in a blue moon antics is not going to carry us too far. Sadly, my other fav Sharif has been out with injury for a long time and there is still no definite update on his recovery.

Pundit, you left out Kapali!!! How could you leave out Kapali!!! He's gotta be in there instead of Mahmud...move Mushfique down to 7 or 8...but then you can't play 3 bowlers cos that's a real weakness without Mashrafe...then again we're doing that at the moment with Mahmud and Mushfiqur is a better bowler than him so I suppose it can't be too bad

Hey can we take fahim muntasir Sumit as another specialist spinner.

too early to talk about a playing 11. I think these guys should all play in the first class leagues in BD and Pakistan instead of going to their Boys Scouts camp starting next weekend. Zimbabwe will be more pace friendly, and right now we have better spinners but can't take them all. So we have to take 4 pacers plus Mushfiq, otherwise I would have taken Jamaluddin who is bowling extremely well. If injured, I would replace Javed with either Halim Shah or Moniruzzaman, otherwise my tour party at this time is:
Hannan
Javed
Shahriar
Bashar
Ash
Rajin
Alok
Mushfiq
Rana (gets the edge over Jamal in the allrounder slot)
Mashud
Rafique
Tapash
Monir
Aziz
Kabir
There is no place for Mahmud, if he is still on this team I will stop following Bangladesh cricket.

also keep Tushar Imran as a backup, along with Jamaluddin. Do we have any other pacers who should be given a shot? Talha is not in the picture and neither is Sharif for sure.

I blame the previous regime in the ongoing khaled mahmud fiasco. They hastily made this character the captain without taking into account that his selection in the side itself is questionable. how often do we hear the term "loraku cricketer" associated with mahmud in our media? What lorai are they talking about ? four years ago? Because of him we are either a batsman or a bowler short. We are not the world beaters that have the luxury of picking a player because of his leadership skills and little to do with cricketing abilities . We must field the best possible side that we can in order to balance the team and give us the best possible chance. My main fear right now that his decent showing in the league will get the drumrolls beating again to keep him as the captain.

OMG - you're soooo right HFAN ! No Kapali, no team !!!!
Now its really complicated with Mahmud still in the team !!
Between Anwar, Tapash, and Mushfiq, one has to go !

I don't think Khaled Mahmud Sujon will play for Bangladesh again.

I like rafiq's team except for Rana and a few others. Isn't Rana still under 19? If so, then he will probably play for the U19 team in U19 Worldcup taking place at the same time BD is touring Zim. Here is my 15:
1.Hannan
2.Javed(if injured then read note***)
3.Shahriar
4.Bashar
5.Ash
6.Rajin
7.Alok
8.Mushfiq
9.Note***
10.Mashud
11.Rafique
12.Tapash
13.Monir
14.Note***
15.Note***
Note***
I will wait until the BD A tour and BD Domestic First Class is over, and then find the best performer
And Rafiq's selections might very well be the best performers.

PICKING TEAMS IS FUN!!!

Your brains are working better than mines are - I agree with the following things:
1. Its still not the best time to pick up the first eleven
2. We should all wait until the BD 'A' tour and the domestic tournament is over
3. Need four pacers plus Mushfique - want to add: those four pacers must know how to bowl line and length
My other points:
- We need Rafique for both test and One Day series and may be Monjurul Rana only for the One Day series (because our pacers are not good enough to restrict runs - particularly I have my doubts over Tareq Aziz, Alamgir Kabir and Anwar Hossain Munir)
- With so many doubts about our bowlers (and I don't mean only the points that I have tried to make), and so many injury problems right now, I think our chances of getting a win - either in the test or the one day series is becoming bleak.
My Questions: (and Eyebrows raised)
- Why did Javed Omar have to go right now to have an operation on his shoulder / hands, so that they he will miss the Zimbabwe tour?
- I know that Khaled Mahmud won't be the captain anymore, but this timing of choosing a new captain - it will go against us - no team has ever went into a series as the captain and earned the glory of winning a match or two straight away (to a team that has a record of losing); One exception is possibly Akram Khan? Can Habibul Bashar/Mushfiqur Rahman/Hannan Sarkar/Mohammad Rafique (the new captain)/ Khaled Mahmud (the old captain - even after so many discussions over this, if he does stay on as one of you have said) show a repeat act of Akram Khan?
- Won't the poor performance during the last England series influence the performance of the players and the team in the next Zimbabwe tour?
- A very important question: Suppose a group of players are returned for the Zimbabwe camp, to train under Whatmore, and under the group of specialist coaches; then if the coaches still see a weakness somewhere, will he call up some players from the second leg of the BD 'A' tour? Or in other words, when or if some players of the second leg of the BD 'A' tour do well / perform better than expectations - will they be called up for the Zimbabwe tour? Especially when there are another set of players training hard to gain skills (whatever skills those may be) under Whatmore and other coaches? This is a very significant point because these other specialist coaches are called upon before important tours with lots of money spent over for appointing them for a limited period of time.
- Eyebrows were raised when the news was that specialist coaches were called upon for ONLY a limited period of time before important tours - why not keep specialist coaches for all the year round? Why bring them only for important tours? For that matter, isn't our every tour important now, especially since WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO WIN?

1. probably because javed's injury was serious enough to operate on now? he won't do well playing injured, and you have the surgery as soon as possible so the player can return as soon as possible next season.
2. Any time is a good time to replace Sujon. As for repeat act of Akram Khan - you may have been the only person aware of this fact (until now) so I don't think the new captain will think too much about Akram Khan's legacy
3. No, poor performance against England will not be factor in Zimbabwe.
4. New BD "A" players joining the tour team - not sure, if they do really well they should be considered but usually the team is picked from whoever is in the camp.
5. Specialist coaches all year vs before important tours - BCB may not have funds for all year; you'd rather have these coaches before important tours than not at all or before unimportant tours. I don't think any tour is any less or more important than others - even if the team doesn't win they can continue trying to be competitive.
