This would be interesting. Ind looks to build on their recent success. SL wants to prove something. NZ underdogs, as always but that is what suites them fine.

Wow, I can never understand why a team like Sri Lanka is rated so low. Sri Lanka needs more cricket these days. It seems like the only people they play are Pakistan. In the past year they have had two series against them already.

India will triumph, with its batting line up in favourable conditions, unless they have a collapse, because we all know India are one of the worst bowling amongst the test teams.

What?? If this was true, Batting alone cannot help a team succeed. They have Zaheer Khan, Ishant SHarma, and Harbahjan. Even their second class bowlers like Yuvraj Singh intimates the Bangladeshi batsmens.

What a start by SL. NZ 20/3 in 13 overs. With only two maidens. Althought 217 is not that big of a total but the Malinga's 30 yorkers gets the attention.

Since it is a Tri-series, runrate matters alot. They need to finish up things and not linger.

If they can get one of these two out soon enough, they'll pretty much expose the tail. Otherwise, Vettori can be a hell of a koi maach - the Bangladesh team would know.

One partnership. From 5/69 to 6/196 in 22.3 overs. Mathew had 51. :)

Advantage SL in bowling friendly wickets even against Ind.

NZ needs to play cricket outside NZ more often !!

I dont remember when was the last time they toured India,WI,Pak or SL(before this) .[cant remember SA or England either ..but they must have]

They seem to be contend playing with the Aussies ! Its a shame as they looked like having quiet a bit of talent , atleast in their batting department.

Jayasuriya to Elliott, OUT, Elliott's long vigil comes to an end. Flat delivery on the stumps, Elliot comes down the track and yorks himself, fails to make contact and the ball crashes into the woodwork
Yorks himself, lol. Gadha Sanath adjusted the length.

Ticket sales need to be discounted to college students.

not so sure..The Premadasa tracks are hidious... the ball doesnt come on to the bat & if u loose the toss the game is over...

with the SL bowlers knowing how to bowl in Premadasa & the current form they are in..I will go for SL over India..but idf we are playing in India...I will go for India

2 reasons

1. Although we are good at Test we sucked in T20 & ODIs in SL... the first T20 could have been won by us but we played patheticaly to loose..so no point

2. SL public loves cricket....but not fanatical & weekday Day Night matches are skipped because work tomorrow is more important than cricket

I think it's good to play in these kind of wickets, SLC is taking the right path. That way the games won't be 300+ everytime and the batsmen will learn a whole lot more by batting in these competitive pitches. Anyone can make a flat track and make a master blaster out of anyone but this is more competitive.

I think you misunderstood. This is not a competitive pitch. Whoever wins the toss wins the game most of the time. That is not right.

That's your oppinion. Low scoring games are often competitive

My favourite wickets are one that have pace, movement off the pitch and eases out in latter stages of the innings.

This is basically the wicket in chittagong.

Dear Naf,
Not the pitch, it is the toss. Vettori said the same thing. Sanga said the same thing. We all know the same thing. Batting second the ball becomes slow and low (What swing?) in that pitch. Scoring runs become harder. Clear advantage of whoever batting first. No this is not even comparable with Chittagong pitch. At Chitt the pitch do not drastically change when the flood light is on.

Even batting first has been pretty hard on this ground lately. So batting second gets even harder under lights.

Whoever wins the toss and bats first will win this tourney !!

India will manage to win this one despite batting second but I cant see them winning in a similar situation against the Lankans batting second .

SL needs to do something with these pitches ..sure it helps their bowlers but they are too slow for an ODI and becomes too dependent on the toss especially against evenly matched teams like SL and India.

I think the biggest casualty of the BCCI-ICL saga was NZ. They lost players like Bond, Astle, McMillan, Tuffey, Marshall etc. You could've almost made a decent XI out of the Kiwi players there. They went from competing with SL for the 2nd spot (with AUS way above anyone) during the 2007 WC to slowly spiraling to the bottom. Their current form suggests that BD wouldn't be hard pressed to steal a series from them (especially in BD).

I really hope they bounce back quickly (they do have the names for it). I also think that Vettori is too old school in his captaincy and could be utilizing them better. Ryder and McCullum opening together is like having Ash and Aftab open. Its just waiting for a wicket to fall. Vettori can insert him into the attack much earlier. He should also tweak the batting line up based on situation (have him come earlier when there is a collapse, take PP when batsmen like Taylor and Oram are at the crease etc.)

The thing is, we would preform better against Bangladesh if they bowled exactly the same as India did, just because no one wants to be the team to lose to you

Just look at what inzamam did at multan, he was struggling and it didnt seem like he would make it in the new pkistan team after being kicked out of the world cup, but he could not face a test loss to bangladesh and pakistan end up winning by 1 wicket with one of the best test knocks ive seen on a crumbling pitch

It is probably elieviated a bit now since the west indies were the team to lose an odi and test series first, but noone wanted to be that team

I think, those days are over by now. There is no shame in losing to Bangladesh. International teams are learning that and it is time for fans to be a bit more educated on that.

In both the matches, I supported NZ; but on such pitches it is hard to beat teams like SL or Oldies-India. I do not consider those pitches suitable for ODIs.

exactly, and its really good for cricket that teams like bangladesh and sri lanka are doing well

Not so good that the smaller teams like NZ and the west indies arent and that the more powerful cricket nations in terms of both player numbers and stake in international cricket are doing the best

I like the way Sangakkara has planned the chase. They tried to score quickly early, when the pitch is supposed to be 'still good'. They have probably lost one or two wickets too many; but after 20 overs, they seem to be on the right track. if they can apply themselves for the rest of the overs, they can chase it down.

Ridiculous way of analyzing strengths of each team. For India first match up was a dead rubber. India was already through to the final. Just because their loss is less worse won't make them a better team. THey have been consistently losing to India over the last few years. If there is one place they can have upper hand over INdia it is SL. But they have lost 8 out of 12 there. In Australia also they lost to India. India momentarily became world no.1 team. Third team in history to reach that spot after SA and Australia. Ya you would have to be a poor team to be like that.

Please do some research before you bring 8 out of 12 stats. 6 of the matches were held in this same stadium and India won the toss every time which eventually dictated the results. Aparently they lost all three when they lost the toss as well and batted second.

SL needs to stop using this ground as an intl venue where toss determines the result.

The loss of RP Singh's speed will be met with harsh reality in batting friendly pitches in SA. Toss wouldn't be an issue.

:floor: What do you think our batsmen would do? Pluck flowers? Indian seamers are really effective in SA more than anywhere else. They reached world cup final in 2003, won T20 cup final there. SL will be shot to pieces by South Africa in their group.

You want me to do the bowling analysis too?

Those of who followed this series knows which is the better team. Let us wait till the Champion's trophy finishes.

Dont think so ..the last time we met in a series was in Australia where they hardly won anything leave alone the 4-1 victory

Their batting and especially their bowling is best suited for Lankan grounds ..take them out of Lanka Tushara and Kulasekara without bounce and lateral movement are nothing more than freebies .

They will have to rely heavily on Malinga who is probably the best ODI bowler currently .I think India's main threat is SA..they will be the team to beat.

MInd you ..India in this series without their mainstays Shewag,Gambhir and Zaheer...2 wins out of 3 after being rusty and in Lanka ..I will take it any day !

Congrats to India!:notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

The better team won the match. Though the toss and batting second under floodlights did matter, in the end it was the better team which won. Remember India has been beating Srilanka consistenly now.

You want me to do the bowling analysis too?

Those of who followed this series knows which is the better team. Let us wait till the Champion's trophy finishes.

Yeah, yeah, whatever makes you feel good. We won. We have been beating them comfortably lately. And we will beat them again when they come in front of us. You want to count NRR, runs scored, runs conceded, tosses won, tosses lost...you go on. Its your key board to wear out. For me its victory that matters.

SL played better cricket in the match. With such a difficult condition, they were in the match till the 42nd over. The turning point of the match was Sanga's unfortunate out. They did pretty well to fight back even from that situation. On the otherhand, most of the Indian bowlers looked pretty ordinary, their fielding were not even club standard. It was the old man Tendulkar, whose innings made the difference. If Sri Lanka did win the toss and score even 220, it was going to be enough for the flashy Indian batting.

Anyway, I am happy that Sri Lanka lost, although my belief that Sangakkara is the most intelligent cricketer at the moment becomes stronger. The reason is, of course, the pitch, which produces only one-sided affairs.

So, the conclusion is, after the 2007 World cup, Bangladesh was a better team than India. ;)

No, but on that day, yes. How else did you win? You played better cricket, you won. We could not produce what was needed to beat you, we lost. That makes you a better team on that day at least.

But this is not a parallel, is it? We are talking about India vs Srilanka over a period of time and we have been winning more. Its rubbish to call a team which has been consistently losing to us, a better team than us, don't you think? A better team wins more matches.

May be, it's the home advantage, Sri Lanka has been a better team in this series. I guess, we are talking about this series only. In 2 matches, the score is 1-1; but India lost in a pathetic fashion, while Sri Lanka were competing till the last 20 minutes of the match.

I feel sorry for Sangakara. It was really bad luck. The wicket has got slower, otherwise the match could be closer. Well tried by Kandamby.

Anyway, Congratulations India. Tough Luck Srilanka. http://www.cricforum.com/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Of course it is the home advantage. Sri Lanka's home advantage is legendary. They lose to no one else but India in tournament finals played in Sri Lanka.

But one has to agree that their pace bowlers did much better than our pace bowlers. We have to make the right changes in that department.

Fget the bowling Surfer the fielding was pathetic in all the matches .We can get away with those lapses against NZ or SL but not against Aus or SA !

India rightly deserves to be No#3 , they are simply pathetic in their fielding department.Unless we improve it our stay at the top will be "one night stands"

Yup. You are right. If we want to spend some time at the no1 position, we have to make sure that we are good in all departments.

Difference is that was a dead rubber. Both were already through to final.

In all honestly, "They lost but were the better team" argument to justify a loss is the mark of a sore loser.

India won when it counted and thats that. Pakistan were not the best or even one of the better teams in the 92 WC (barely clawing theire way to the Semis) but at the end of the day they won it and thats what counted.

I also feel sorry for Sangakara. Somewhere that guy I liked is lost. This is a whining, annoyed and a little stubborn guy that has taken over the captaincy. The way he was mouthing off after getting out was not very graceful. He even went on to comment that that was the only way he could have gotten out. That is arrogance. Let others say that. In the match before that, the one that they won, he was plumb LBW and still looked so pissed off as if it was all an elaborate conspiracy against him.

And then he forgot entirely to congratulate the winning team or say appreciate some of the efforts from the opposition- I won't hold that against him, he does not have to do that, but that would have been a graceful losing captain. Besides, all throughout the two matches, he was glaring the umpires up and down for every single wide called, as if they were all plotting against him.

He was not like that before he became captain.

yeah Sangakara sometime overreacted for some decision. More importantly umpires decisions were correct. One of the Umpires was his exteammate so it creats more pressure on this umpire. Sangakara should be punished.

in this Compaq cup Sril was the best team.
Sril is a more balanced team than India.
I believe Sril will be a tgh oppsition in Chmpns trophy.
where was Samarawera anyway?

Not really, especially for India, because they had to win that match to gain some points and become #1. So, they took it seriously.
