We won the bid. Nepal was our competitor after India (originally they were the host by rotation) backed out.

Salauddin promised to make this a World standard tournament.

8 teams are participating in this one.

I hope the matches are telecasted by a private channel.

Those visiting in BD in december have Football and Cricket to watch.

How can this be a world class tournament with players not even worthy of playing street soccer in Saudi Arabia?

This is a great chance for us to popularize foot-ball and go to the next level. We better start preparing and win the tournament. That would be the best thing to happen in our foot-ball.

I remember the last time time we hosted SAF foot-ball, we won that tournament. We beat India in Semi-final 2-1, with a Golden goal by Matiur Munna in front of packed Bangabandhu Stadium.
Oh!! what a match that was, and what a goal that was!!!

Dido has been replaced by Shahidur Rahman Shantoo, with Saiful Bari Tito being his deputy. Satyajit Das Rupu will helm the team as manager.

The BFF at an emergency meeting of the executive committee made the decision.

The team picked up by Dido has been dissolved as well and the training camp has been suspended.

National team management committee member Hasanuzzaman Bablu told bdnews24.com, "We sacked Dido in the national interest. He made a team excluding 6 to 7 key players. We failed to make him understand and finally executive committee took the decision."

The decision came just before SAF championship.

Chief of national team management committee Badal Roy told bdnews24.com, "We failed to change his (Dido) mind after several tries.

"We have been forced to accept his committee as he was claiming transparency in selection on Sunday. But our thinking is his selected team would not play better even in the first round of upcoming SAF championship.

"It's a B team. We sacked him in national interest."

Dido told bdnews24.com, "I heard that they fired me but I have not been formally informed."

Dido was signed for a year in January 31.

The excluded players are defender Rajani Kanta Berman, midfielder Arman Aziz, goalkeeper Biplob Bhattacharya, midfielders Zahed Parvez, Zahid Hossain, Mofazzel Hossain and Ariful Islam.

Eight footballers had boycotted training at the camp at BKSP in last July defying Dido. Later he preferred to leave them out of the national fold.

this is one of the sad days for BD football. so now we will see players will select themselves and also coach themselves. kinda trade union! football did not bring anything good for last 10-15 years because of the poor mentality of players and officials, who are remain the same even after getting a person like Salahuddin as the head.

Rajani-Biplob gong are the winners and I can see them future MPs as Joy did.

I feel sorry for Dido, who may have problems but wanted good for the BD football. these players are so losers that they can say good things whenever a new coach come but when the coach starts making them match fit they start to bring their own face and most of the officials help the players to remain popular! I am not following these losers anymore.

thanks Dido for bringing the true face of BFF officials though they are ex footballers but they act like professional officials. Dido is right most of them have no life beside football officials .... I have been following Mohamedan since early 80's cannot remember what Bad.al Roy did in international level. This team has only two players who are not playing for Abahoni or Mohamedan. So to be in the national team players need to be in those two team first. BD footballers (most of ex and current) mean kind of a stupid people to me!

I know India has sent their inexperienced youth team for the tourney but thats not officially India u-23. They are representing India, and if they win/lose its gonna go down under Indian national team.

And whats with Bangladesh XI? this is our main team....

yes goal.com
of course it's not officially U-23, it can't be. the officials have sent in the young ones so that they get international experience. all other teams are national ones.

Football in south asia is so sub-standrad that I believe my NAIA division III college team bench warmers could beat anybody any day with half the effort. Gone are the days of Munna, Aslam and Kaiser Hamid. No power in shots, no placing and watching the matches keep me thing if it is slow-motion replay or not. That said Bhutan team was a goleer team and Bangladesh team played a little bit better. They should have really scored 20 goals in this match (seriously). I watched the game in Dhaka and was thinking of my school days where Bangladesh "lal" or Bangladesh "shobuj" would beat Thailand, Malaysia, North Korea kind of teams or at least fight at a respectable pace. Running, placing and kicking were all at a decent standard.

"Hay re kopal." all four goals were scored not because Bangladesh played really well but Bhutan was seriously pathetic. That Enamul guy who scored 2 goals had open net at least 6 times but failed miserably.

So two scenarios:

i) A win or a draw in the last match against SL will put us through to SFs regardless of the result of Pak vs Bhu.

ii) Even a loss wouldn't harm if Pak fails to win against Bhu. And even if they win, the goal difference bettwen BD vs SL and the goal difference between Pak vs Bhu shouldn't add up to more than 2. If it does, we are out.

But as Pak is very likely to win against Bhu by at least a 2 goal margin, we just cannot allow us to get beaten by SL. AT LEAST a draw.

I remember Pak beating Bangladesh 1-0 once before.. Anyways Bangladesh should win against Pakistan with a big margin everytime, afterall football is stil the second most popular game back home. Also, the local clubs like Abahani and Mohammedan spends much more money than any Pakistani Club..

Maldives league got the highest paid footballers in the region. Europeans, Africans and Latinos are also playing in that league. Even the lowest paid footballer in the top division earns more than 2000 us dollars. Abhani or Mohameddans budget is nuts if you make a comparison with a top Maldivian side. So who is doing what with so little resources? Cmon guys! Maldives has the largest contingent of officials and media here in Bangladesh to cover saff. Football is in their blood. If I remember correctly Bangladesh beat Maldives 8-0 in SAAF football when it started, since then our standard has gone down hill. Whereas cricket came into prominence football lost it's shine. Even Mohammedan-Abahani matches fail to attract full houses sometime..

If we have proper planning and nationwide leagues we can also do well regardless of the fact that Maldives players are paid higher. Afterall we have a population of 150 million compared to 300,000 of Maldives, so we should be able to find more talents.

War ravaged countries like Iraq still outperforms oil rich nations like UAE, Kuwait in football. Skills and passion also plays a part in this...

AsifTheManRahman
December 10, 2009, 10:12 AM
Yes, gone are the days when we would beat the Maldives 8 - 0 and unfortunately, gone are also the days when we would lose to Japan 8 - 0 (more like 12 - 0 now). Gotta give it to the Maldives though - I read an article about their domestic soccer infrastructure a few years ago and they seem to be much, much more organized than most of the other South Asian nations.

First of, my sincere apology as it wasnt meant to be derogatory at all....

I know how much Maldives football has developed and I know about the strong football infrastructure and passion you guys have for this game... and I have nothing but respect for that...

My point was, we cannot be India or Iraq as we dont have that kind of money nor that kind of skill. But we can certainly be Maldives in football if we try... and produce some players like Ashfaq Ali maybe...
Maldives football will give our football hope...

anyway thanks for enlightening us all, best of luck for the tourney, may the best team win.....

First of, my sincere apology as it wasnt meant to be derogatory at all....

I know how much Maldives football has developed and I know about the strong football infrastructure and passion you guys have for this game... and I have nothing but respect for that...

Football has nothing to do with money, only passion do. In that regard too Maldives out flank us by a huge margin. Their Manager said today at BFF house that being the smallest drop of nations under the sky is no obstacle as they got the biggest heart for football. Can we Bangla guys go out and proclaim such a thing?

Jalbd is obviously amazed by what he thinks. Better to search and learn about Maldives. Maldives per capita is much much higher than any of saarc countries. Maldive football has the largest resources in the whole region without doubt. So better to update ur source of information before making degradory statements.:-P:-P
interesting !
who is the highest paid maldives player and what is his salary ?
what is the annual budget of a maldivian side ?

and is it $ 2000 per week ?
thanks in advance.

I didnt watch the BD-IND game....

I know 1-0 loss doesnt say much about how we played (as opposed to maldives 5-1 victory) but apparently BD didnt even have a decent (or any) shot at goal !!!!

was it that terrible??

now for the politics : Dont you think some kind of justice was done (with Dido's sacking and ignoring all the youth players he found)? If this BD team somehow won the tourney riding on their luck that would have been terrible as clearly there are better teams than us in the tournament. Dont expect any changes from BFF cuz they are just incapable of that...

anyway, as said here, Dido is probably laughing out there somewhere ....

if they can win it with their U-23 team why do they send their main team. Congrats India, try next time with U-19 team, which will be enough for our main team if Badal and gong are still in BFF.
