I want too see Junaid giving room for Imrul or another opener. I want this because Junaid will be our long-term opening partner for Tamim so lets see how some other people do. I like the prospect of trying Dolar. I think we can also re-try Mushfiq at opening as he will most likely do good and bat through. I definitely expect Tamim to go the distance once more as do I for Ash. The pace bowling woes continue. I liked how the management was man enough to come in with 1 pacer for the 3rd ODI. According to Chittagong pitch, I think we should try with Nazmul and Shahadat and Razzak. If the pitch looks bad for pace, bring in Enamul for Nazmul/Shahadat.

Bangladesh unchanged
Bangladesh retained the same squad for the last two one-day internationals of the five-match Gremeenphone Cup against Zimbabwe.

The Tigers, leading the series 2-1, will travel to Chittagong today along with their southern African rivals to play the final two matches on November 3 and 5.

Every player, barring paceman Shahadat Hossain, on the 14-member team has played in the first three games at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

SQUAD
Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Mushfiqur Rahim (vice-captain/wicketkeeper), Tamim Iqbal, Zunaed Siddiqui, Mohammad Ashraful, Rokibul Hasan, Mahmudullah, Nayeem Islam, Enamul Haque, Rubel Hossain, Dollar Mahmud, Shahadat Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Nazmul Hossain.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan (http://www.cricinfo.com/bdeshvzim09/content/current/player/56143.html) has termed as "unacceptable" the host's four-wicket, series-leading victory over Zimbabwe. From 175 for 2 chasing 197 - boosted by timely half-centuries by Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful - Bangladesh lost four wickets in 49 balls before eventually winning in the 41st over.
"I did not want to come out in the middle to bat after the way Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Ashraful had dictated terms, but unfortunately none could finish the job which was really frustrating," said Shakib.
Tamim, who before the game had vowed (http://www.cricinfo.com/bdeshvzim09/content/current/story/432224.html) to answer his captain's call for a more responsible top-order effort, was on 80 when he danced out and missed the ball. Ashraful, who finally found form with 63, fell to a terrible shot outside the off stump. Those two wickets were followed by a middle-order wobble - Raqibul Hasan pulled a short ball out to a fielder in the deep - which left Shakib to come out and settle nerves, but he was clearly peeved at having to do so.
"In such a situation, one can expect to lose three or four wickets. But I should say six wickets is too much for comfort and this is unacceptable," he said. "Either Tamim or Ashraful should have stayed there till the end. We all should know how to finish things off when we got such a small target. I also don't understand why Rokibul played that pull shot at that time. These are very negative signs."
Tamim, named Man of the Match, felt the reverberations. "I'm really very disappointed that I could not satisfy my captain and there is a reason for him to be disappointed," he said. "I knew I had to prolong my innings when I got the start. I want to be a world-class batsman and for that I have to master the craft."

Good thing I did not open a thread on this. I was about to actually. But this is very interesting and a very good thing coming from a performing captain! I very much like this!

It is well backed up, and these kind of words have been coming from us fans since ages and it always seemed like the players had no brains! Good to see a performing captain talking about these issues. All players should be accountable for what they are doing, and a decent word from Tamim as well. Shows that he actually cares.

Lets hope that every one of our players can play their role. Guys like Junaed, Ashraful and Naeem are coming under scrutiny nowadays. Others like Rock will come under the microscope once we play faster paced games. Lets hope they can all play their respective roles.

Best of luck BD!

Let's hope we can carry on our momentum into this match. Our batsman should be looking to lift their game, especially our middle order. After losing 4 quick wickets after we were 2/175 isn't a very good sign, especially if we were set to chase down a total of 220+.

We should be looking to wrap up the series here, Inshallah. Best of luck to the team!

Hi fais,

I guess you have been away for a while. Half the BCites have been complaining about Naeem for a while now. Word is that he is neither a batsman nor a bowler. Others say that he is not being used properly. Some say that he doesn't even exist!

Fact of the matter is that I was not only talking about this particular match but what has been happening in the near past. Hope I was able to explain my words.

Why, do we commonly have peoples names as stadium names. I personally think the ames should be associated with the city or the kind sponsor of bangladesh cricket, Grameen Phone.

sry to have picked on ur comment; the comment was meant for everyone complaining about naeem in general

he has played 22 ODIs
Not out in 8 ODIs (with most scores at 4)
and DNB in 5 other matches

in other words in more than half of his matches he did not get a chance to demonstrate his capabilities and in the rest he is played so low down that either it is near the end where he has to take unnecessary risks to up the scorecard or the bating line-up has completely collapsed and so the supporting batsman is the 10th or 11th man - neither case is appropriate for a batsman to show his skills

what naeem needs is a chance to play at number four (instead of rakib) or at least 5/6 (instead of mahmudullah)

About naeem, I did not know about his flamboyant U19 and academy career, he is a batsman who averaged over 40 in his U19 career. Why dont we use him higher up in the order? =\
So we actually have 8 proper batsmen in the team. wow, not even India has that

I was thinking along similar lines the other day when I suggested that Naeem needs to be put at no.3 instead of Ash until Ash figures out his current form or rather the lack of.

Any one who has been watching Ash over the years must have noticed a sudden change in Ash. He was the player that could ALWAYS connect rite from the word go! His problem always used to be stupid strokes. More recently though, he has not been connecting bat to ball. He is swatting for flies outside his off stump. A real sad sight for me at least.

I think he needs a break because the international stage is not the place for a player to find form back (Even though our local matches are utter cr*p half the time; Good to know that it is getting more competitive of late though). If he is not given a break he could also be batting in place of Naeem for a while. That could work in both ways.

Lets see what decision our team takes though. It will be interesting how they solve this puzzle 'coz clearly Riyad and Naeem both do not fit in that line-up.

So far the areas of concerns:

JS : All his dismissals have been tame.
TI & Ash : Inability to see the innings through. At least TI is accepting the responsibility publicly
Neith TI or JS have a SINGLE not out to their name
Mushy's Keeping
Lack of Pace attack

SS
November 1, 2009, 08:55 AM
How will be the new pitch? We are taking too much risk playing one pacer but the problem is who we have as decent pacer that will atleast give good 6 overs as Mash and Rasel both are out. There are some bad signs in top and middle order but good signs are we are no longer depending on only one player to save our batting. But last two games need to be played very well to back up our captain's prediction of winning the series.

Same squad as expected. I will tinker with the line-up though. Its time to send a message to Zunaid. I would play him, but hand the opening job to someone else, maybe to Rahim ( to redeem himself ) or Naeem ( to see what he has to give with the bat ). 3,4,5 -unchanged. Zunaid will get demoted in the line -up and come at no.6 to close out if needed. Hopefully, we won't need him to bat. He will field, and field all day, instead of getting a break from the game and relax with his legs up on a chair. Worse than his lack of production is the manner he has been getting out. For someone who gets out more often than anybody in the line-up after getting set is simply unacceptable. Very important for him to realize this.

The idea/strategy is not that bad. Big Z needs to realize and he also will suffer complexity next match as expectation rose and his confidence level diminished due to bad performances last couple of matches. Rahim or Naeem can be tried.

Fielding and Wicket keeping got to be improved, I have a feeling that Zimb will come hard at us this time. Sakib needs to play a captain's knock to ensure nothing goes against us.

I guess this will be the series winning game for us. The 3rd ODI was somewhat disappointing. The reason we won was because Zimbabuwe was not upto their standard. Pretty poor performance from them. We were a little better team, couple of us played a little better than then and we won. Batting was a disaster (except TI and MA) and we cannot go and face any of the big teams with this kind of batting performance.

Hahaha! To what do I deserve this honor!

Anyways, the whole post is very classic. You have good hand in writing...nice and innovative thread design strategy. Hopefully it will be a lucky charm to a mammoth piling of score if BD bats first.

Thanks Noc bhai, Antora and Zeeshan :)

Since it's going to be a day match morning dews are gonna play a huge role in the first half and hour. If Bangladesh bowl first I hope Nazmul will put the deliveries in the right spot. What is the trend of this stadium's pitch? Slow low or even bounces?

Looking for the first time 300+ innings of the series.

Interesting...

All experiment should be done after the series is sealed. Agree or disagree?

All experiment should be done after the series is sealed. Agree or disagree?

Agree....very important match ...Batsmen (atleast two of them have to score big) have to play a major role ...Ctg might be batting friendly pitch..

Fazal
November 2, 2009, 10:52 AM
In this series I just hope the following:

1. Once Set, Tamim go for the century with caution.

2. Consider this ODI as a career survival innings. Its getting harder and harder to justify his inclusion in ODI.

3. Ash selects less risky shots to hit a ball and continue to concentrate on building an innings first. With his skill, he don't need to hack a ball to maintain a healthy RR.

4. I hope Rakibul play the anchor role again, atleast at the begining of his innings.

5. I hope Sakib use Nazmul more and set Naeem's role and expectation and let him play accordingly.

6. I hope Ryiad prevent any more slippage in this series and continue to grow as he did in last couple of years and surpised a few including myself.

7. I hope Rahim understand that, wicket keeping is his primary role, batting is a plus. He is such a disapointment as wicket keeper. May be its time for him to think about giving up WC and concentrate more as specialized batsman. I think there is his strength.

8. I feel Naeem is confused about his role and expectation from him. And I blame to the management for that. If Naeem bats at #8, that means, he needs to bowl more and often. Looks like they used him as a #7th bowler behind Ashraful. Sakib need to set up Naeem's role and let him be successful or failure. Right now I don't know what's is his real role in the team. A bowling all-rounder? a batting all-rounder? a specialized bowlers? a future specialized batsman? Who knows. And may be thats why a confused Naeem is going nowhere.

9. I hope more confident Enamul shows his worth in a team, specially when we play at home.

10. I hope Razzak come back as a slogging batsman also, the way he used to be a year ago.

11. Nazmul is a specialized bowler and only FB in the team and he was bowling pretty good in 3rd ODI. We underused him in 3rd ODI. Who knows, we may just missed the opportunity to see getting his 5th wicket in 3rd ODI. I hope, if he play like last ODI, we use him more.

I know Junaid deserves to have his head on the chopping block but here is a concern I have. Tamim's partner needs to be hitter. I don't want Mushy because that makes TI the hitting opener and I don't think he's very good at that role. He is better rewarded with a patien innings.

I wouldn't mind considering Naeem (should be given a decent run, not 2 or 3 matches) or Aftab for that role going forward. We should let JS finish off the series and not shakeup the team right now.

The coach is right on the money.
http://www.bangladesherkhela.info/index.php?newsID=14517&pageTitle=details&editionID=842

1) He is happy with Tigers Performance so far.

2) praised all the players specially Raqibul.

3) He is always at Tension if the boys will display their true talent in games.

4) When questioned for Zunaed's performance or Mushi's promotion to open the innings, said don't mess with the winning combo, and Mushi is doing fine at his place. There 200 more professionals in the country. We are playing at home. If needed we can always call up someone for Junaed. No need to move Mushi. Right now he is the best I got.

5) Powerplay at 3rd ODI, was unprofessional. It was for the crowd to enjoy the game more he was against that. lol. Instructed the players to be more professional and work towards winning.

I don't know for sure, who should be the one.

But when there is problem for long enough, hopefully it will force selectors to make less than ideal choice and innovative but risky decisions. Personally, if problem @ #2 exist for the rest of the two ODIs, I wouldn't mind to bring someone (SN, NI, Imrul, etc) whoever is successful in DPL for our next ODI series.

In terms of risky innovation, I am not in a position to throw a name. The coach should figure out who has the technique and mentality to be successful out of Rokibul, Rahim, Naeem(??) or Riyad (???) or someone else. Whoever they choose, they should instruct him to play as a opener in local league firt (after this series) to gauge him how he does. Personally I would assume Rakibul and Rahim has better chance to success than Naeem, Ryiad, Ash or someone else in the team as a opener.

If they bring someone new outside the team (SN, NI, Imrul, etc), Junaid have to sit. However reassinging someone with-in the team to play as an opener, they may retry Junaid one more series at #3 slot for example.

Form Guide (most recent first)
Bangladesh -W WLWW
Zimbabwe - LLWWW
Pitch and conditions
In Chittagong the batsmen usually have a lot more going for them than in Dhaka or Mirpur. The pitch at the stadium is made of brown clay and is expected to be slower, though firmer, than the Mirpur one. Though it is likely to be sunny, the stadium's proximity to the sea means rain is always a possibility.
Quotes
"If you keep giving suggestions to a player who is not in form then more times than not it has a negative effect and it doesn't help. He knows what he needs to do and that goes for every player in or team."
Tamim Iqbal believes a struggling fellow opener Junaid Siddique just needs a bit of luck. "He is not performing but the team is winning so why change a winning combination? Besides, we don't have any one better at the moment and unless someone else is scoring lots of runs and saying pick me then I don't see any reason why we should change anything."
Siddons offers his support to an out-of-form Junaid.
"I had consciously started slowly in the last match and plan to play the same way in the remaining matches as that approach has brought be runs in the West Indies and Zimbabwe also. I admit this is not what the crowd wants but for greater consistency I have to adapt."
Mohammad Ashraful says his paced innings in the last match was a deliberate plan.
