66. Do some research on how they side stepped portugal. (England)
France, lol every one knows at home what they did to Ronaldo (the real one) before the finals.

Germany, Algeria didn't qualify in the second round because of Germany's patano khela (loss).

Brazil has been and will always be my main team but as England has become my second home, I can't help but support them also in competitions such as this. I consider them to be underdogs among the other giants of Europe and South America and think they get quite a bit of unnecessary stick from the Anglophobes. Why do some people still care about what they did eons ago? Many great teams and many great players have cheated since then, that is unfortunately the part and parcel of football.

Anyway,
GO ENGLAND GO!

England i agree smtimes, same for france, a bit.. but Germany??? hell no, how??

i think Englands best players are Terry and Ferdinand.. Terry captaincy and ferdinands attitude makes England what it is.. without them at the back, englands like a human without a backbone, they can never stand up.. They need some serious fixing on their Mid (excapt Gerrard) and play more defensive styled midfielders like Carrick or Barry..

Once one is found cheating meaning he/she didn't do it for the first time. Multiple times offender for sure. Because the lord protected him/her for the first time.

As for France, look at the following: Once a cheater always a cheater. T Henry included. Cheating is not an art form.

Well Italy shouldn't even have won the World Cup in 2006 - they got through via a dive in the penalty box that saved their buttocks against Australia in one of the knockout games. Cheating and the Italian football team go further back when in 1994 an Italian defender elbowed Luis Enrique and bloodied his nose in the penalty box. Enrique had to leave the pitch and after that I thought the Italians didn't deserve to get to the finals, at least not on principal.

And Diego's, well...Diego. Hand of God.

No way bro! If we are just talking about midfielders then other then the 2 you mentioned Iniesta, Kaka, Ribery, Essien all > Gerrard big time. Iniesta is one of the most under-rated players in the World. He is consistent nearly 100% of the time and he performs in all matches unlike Ronaldo who only scores in bundles against "small" teams and flops in the big occasions. Perfect example Man U vs. Barcelona Champs. League Final 2009. Do a player v player analysis of Iniesta and Ronaldo in that match. And btw I am a Man U supporter. It is sad that just because Iniesta is not a goal scorer he isn't bracketed with the very best. Football isn't always about scoring.

There is no discrimination. Only Liverpool fans live in the illusion Gerrard ranks among the best midfielders in the world, let alone best players.

Well anyway, this thread is for England. So let's just put aside the team biases and focus on the overall success of the English team. Let's hope they can make it past the group stage, unlike a certain other team.

So I know very little about football because I'm not a blind Liverpool fan who thinks Gerrard is one of the best 3 players in the world? If that's the case then you know nothing in comparison. Gerrard is an important player as far as Liverpool and England is concerned but he sure as hell isn't one of the top 3 players or midfielders in the world. Only a delusional Liverpool fan thinks that and I could care less if you agree or not.

Torres on the other hand is a world class striker and is among the best right now. Unfortunately he's joined the wrong club.

Terry Axed As England Captain After 'Affair'
http://daylife.sky.com/imageserve/02mTbov6qO0Nm/610x.jpg

John Terry has been dropped as England football captain following a meeting with the national manager Fabio Capello over his alleged affair, Sky News sources say.
http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2009/Oct/Week2/15403045.jpg

It comes as the woman who the Chelsea skipper reportedly had a relationship with has decided not to sell her story.

Underwear model Vanessa Perroncel was believed to have been offered up to £250,000 by various media organisations to give her view.

She also said she was very sad that Terry has been dropped as England captain.

http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2010/Jan/Week4/15538409.jpg
The father-of-two was axed as the national skipper following a meeting with Capello at Wembley lasting around 12 minutes. Terry has now left the world famous football venue.

Sky correspondent Ian Dovaston said: "I am sure that John Terry thought this was a great possibility, that Fabio Capello would take this view.

"Clearly the manager believes he has been so mired in controversy that he would become a distraction in the build-up to the World Cup.

"The last thing he wants is any distraction as they go into a very important competition."

Capello flew into the UK on Thursday amid continuing speculation that Terry could have to quit his role as the side's skipper just months ahead of this summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

Beckham's out. I'm gutted for him, 'cause he deserved to go to the World Cup. With Lennon a doubt, I think Shaun Wright-Phillips could play on the right hand side. Where's Theo Walcott? Hardly seen him this season.

I used to think Beckham was a bit of a waste and only played for the likes of Madrid and Milan due to his celebrity status, but then I came to realise that he actually does bring value to whichever team he plays for. Otherwise he would not be in the England squad under a manager like Capello. His crossing is still as accurate as ever. He will be missed.

Beckham always had it coming. He will give you bits in the form of a nice set-piece or a nice cross, but they have happened far too sporadically for far too long.

They kinda will. Other than Joe Cole, they dont have any other right winger good enough (unless you mean young who plays both wings).

Lennon is a left winger. Along with Downing. And wright Phillips has completely lost himself since his late chelski days. Still needs a lot more improvement.

the right wingers, lennon, SWP, walcott..... all have pace and tricks, but not good final balls and never showed consistency.

the same goes for downing in left wing.

i think ashley young is better than all of them and he is two footed and can play on both wings. though he prefers left wing.

joe COle is not a proper winger. he is mainly an attacking midfelder, capable of playing in wide areas

I agree. Young is the only one. But I still think that since they dont have any others, they could use Young in left wing and J. Cole in Right.

Lennon is injured and a major doubt for the World Cup, SWP sucks against International full-backs and Walcott is way too inconsistent to start for a top International team which is why Beckham will be missed. Beckham raises the spirit of the team as soon as he comes on to the pitch and all the players look upto him which is why Capello has asked Beckham to accompany the team as a non-playing member.

Gerrard may play as a supporting forward for Rooney. So far Rooney has been unable to adjust with any of the other England strikers so Capello is trying to recreate the Man U atmosphere for Rooney where everyone plays around him. I think it's a smart move because Rooney is the only one who can take them further than the QFs and he needs to be firing at all costs.

Also baffled to see Warnock get a place having appeared in only one England game to date. Not sure what to make of this squad to be honest.

I don't know why people are so surprised. I thought the strikers were pretty much certain. On top of that Heskey is a manager's player and is one of Cappello's favourite. Bent had no chance unless he lit the field alight against Japan which he didn't other than a couple of good runs.

Whether it is the right call or not is debatable. Bent is certainly much more of a goal threat than Heskey.

It isn't that the England fans are any more ashamed than we have been since 1990. We are used to disappointments. A little like supporting Bangladesh in cricket!

The team is yet to tie their shoe laces let alone get on the field. England is known to be a flop is big tournaments and what little we got in the past, in 1990 and 1996, this generation seems to accept that as graceful defeats. The next match would be different. This is the most creative German team since their late 60s and early 70s squad. In the happy Ozil, they have perhaps the player of the tournament so far. As much as I would love to see Ozil and his team to play against Argentina, what a match that would be, I would rather that we could frustrate him on Sunday. He is only 20. His time would come. We hour is about to pass and we need at least a lightly stamped visa on that World Cup passport as 'credible' attendees!

well some quotes from BBC ......

*** Breaking stat*** Breaking stat*** Wayne Rooney lost the ball or was tackled in possession more than any other player at the Fifa 2010 World Cup. Wow. Pretty interesting that. I really can' t imagine he doesn't care about not performing as he can. ***Breaking overreaction?*** Ashley Cole was filmed "laughing" as the players touched down in Rustenburg last night. To use footballing parlance, he's being 'hammered' for it. Thoughts?

"International retirements - Carragher (again!), James, Terry and Ferdinand (sadly, great players but just too slow and/or injury prone), Upson (please!!), King. Heskey surely has to go, and I just have a feeling Lampard might call it a day."

Deep doom and gloom abounds. The FA are baring most of the brunt. But hang on a minute! England [not a typo] won [not a typo] the European Under-17 Championship title in May, beating Spain [not a typo] 2-1 in Liechtenstein. It was the country's first age-group title since 1993. That previous triumph in (an under-18 championship) featured Paul Scholes and Robbie Fowler, amongst many others who went on to play for the senior team. Is that a glimpse of teeth I can see?

"If ENGLAND had an ENGLISH manager we could have avoided this humiliation by not qualifying in the first place."
